I have a job that I despise more than any other human has ever hated their job (okay, at least close)- child support officer in a call center- BLECH!
And I'm trying to go back to school to become a licensed ultrasound tech- I would make about $10,000 more per year than I am making here. However, the program is very competitive. They may have 50 applicants and only accept 12 people per year. My grades are really good but they give extra points for people who live in-district and who are already in the medical field. So I'm afraid I might not get in.
I'm taking my prerequisites so that I can apply in May. HERE'S MY PROBLEM. I work 8-5 and ONE of the courses is only offered during the day. I would have to quit my job for ONE course only. The other 2 prerequisites I need I can take on the internet. I hate to give up my monthly salary (which I desperately need) for PHYSICS. I have checked with all the universities around here and none of them offer physics on Saturday or at night or internet. Even checked correspondence courses on the internet and can't find any.
I especially hate to quit my job for one class if I don't even get into the ultrasound program. I don't like my job, but having a place to live, food to eat, and trips to WDW are good.
Thanks for letting me rant and rave.

Oh, that's to bad. Won't your job let your reschedule your hours to take that one class? I've often done that for my employees.

{{hugs}}, don't give up on your dream!!

No advice here, just {hugs}. I did that job and it is the WORST THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck, I hope you can find someway to take the class.

Oh!! Life's too short to spend it doing work you hate...

Did you only check for classes in the Longview/Tyler area, or would you be willing to drive to Dallas or Shreveport for a Saturday class?

I just checked Texarkana College and there's not a night class there either.

Does your place of employment offer part-time hours? I know what you mean about hating your job. My workplace downsized and forced me into a call center area that was mainly for complaints. I was completely miserable for four months and then finally quit. Luckily, I could just barely afford to.

Good luck with your decision.

At the college I went to a billion years ago, if you had a circumstance where you couldn't attend a class because it either wasn't offered, or it was offered when it conflicted with your work schedule, you could request to take a Reader Course. You would be assigned a professor who would guide you through the coursework, but you would do it through independent study and private meetings.

Does your school offer this? It's a possibility that you might get a prof to work with you.
