Can I vent about vacation planning?

3 years ago, several friends, us included, decided to all go to WDW in 2010. Well, that's next year. I've proposed several dates, and even found fabulous airfare for a week in April, but our friends couldn't go that week. One of them assured us that he would come with us, but that week just wouldn't work. So I've been functioning under the assumption that we're going all together next summer. My husband had dinner with these friends and now they're saying that they don't think they will be going to WDW after all. I'm so disappointed. I missed out on a chance to travel in April, which we never do because it's usually so expensive, and now it looks like it's just DH and me, which will make the trip more expensive because we won't be sharing costs.

OK, I feel better now. I'm just frustrated that people can't make decisions. Arg.

It's annoying when people are wishy-washy - especially about something where there is so much cost involved..

Consider yourself lucky. Imagine how difficult dining reservations would have been. You want Le Cellier, they cannot even think of where they want to eat that far in advance. You book Le Cellier and they say they do not want to spend that much and want Electric Umbrella. You want to go to Epcot, they want to go to AK.

Co-workers of mine have been down at the same time and I have done one EMH with them, but that's it.

That's what I was thinking. I would never want to go to WDW with another couple, let alone 2. No way. Too many cooks in the kitchen. I wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy myself.

It's frustrating but three years ago the entire economic feeling of our country was different. As much as they want to go they may just be realizing it's not possible and how close 2010 really is.

but honestly? don't feel TOO bad because we tried to do this with my DBIL and DSIL last month and DSIL went behind our backs and made all of these dinner reservations for her and her husband only and didn't tell us until we got there, so we BARELY even saw them, and they were never in the same parks with us at the same time or anything.

at least this way you and your DH will be able to go where you want, when you want, without having to rely on other people.

Travelling with others is hard. I think you lucked out on this one. Sorry your friends are so wishy-washy.

Last year we travelled to the beach with friends. We all had to work very hard to stay peaceful and do things together(sometimes) or feel comfortable not doing things together. We were reminded of how difficult it is to travel with others even when the options are: when are we getting up? When are we going to the beach? Have you had enough sun? .....

Planning ANYTHING with others is hard, coordinating time off work is next to impossible. Basically if we want to go on a vacation and others mention joining us we tell them that we are going on xxx date and you are welcome to come. If you do the 'when is everyone free' you never get a date set. If they want to go badly enough, they will make it work.

I have also found that once you GET there, coordinating visiting sites, etc is next to impossible because everyone has different things they want to see. My sister wanted to do a Disney trip together and I told her, fine, we can go together and meet up for dinner each day, if our plans happen to coincide, great, we can hang out in the parks together. Then we started talking about hotels, she didn't want to stay onsite, told her sorry, if we go we will stay at AKL, she wanted us all to stay at the same hotel-fine, make your reservations for AKL or we will just meet you in the parks for dinner.

Her kids are 10 years younger than my kids so what they want to do isn't what my kids want to do. She wasn't happy about that so we never went .

We went on one vacation with friends-never again. Never agreed on where to eat. Except for the one theme park-Seaworld in Texas-could not agree on other things we did.
