Can I Survive another 11 days in WDW w/ Disney-Resistant Husband? *11/25 SURPRISE!!**

Wow that dinner at the beach at PEI looked amazing.

Love your countdown chains! Those really help to build the excitement for all concerned I am sure.

I vote for HM ghosts!

I think I have posted once before...but thought it was time to again! I love your summer update! It looks like you had a great summer. I am in amazement of the adorable white outfit that you had your little boy in...my boys would have been dirty before they left the house but I so wish I could dress them that way!! I just adore your trip reports and am so excited for you to go, but mostly because I get to read about it and see your great pics!! Lastly...I vote for Star Wars!

I love reading your TR's and PTR's! Just read the reluctant husband one (my DH isn't as much as a mouse junkie as I, but he does enjoy himself! even though he keeps pushing for non Disney vacations.... And I cringe! lol) and I'm so excited for all you to be going again! The weather in the south is great right now, yay! Just wondering which water park y'all will be going to? We have only done Blizzard Beach and love it! The donuts are a must to try :). Have fun!! PS - My vote is for the ghost costumes :goodvibes

Thanks so much for posting and following along! :goodvibes

Shockingly, we have never been to either waterpark, but plan to hit them both up this trip. Can't wait to go!!! I will definitely keep in mind those donuts at BB! ;)

1 week to go....1 week to go. Great countdown chain. And YAY for Mickey Mail.

Counting down with you. :thumbsup2

Another vote for the Haunted Mansion theme as well.

Yes, Mickey Mail and Countdown chains definitely serve to stir up excitement at this point, don't they? ;)

This will happen too! Friday night I took Justin and two of his friends to the high school football game. I was staying to watch the game too, meeting some friends of mine there. I barely got my car in park before those boys jumped out and took off, they couldn't even walk with me to entrance - goodness knows you don't want to be seen at a social event walking with a parent!

I love your countdown chain! We always have so much fun with those and it makes the days leading up to the trip so much more exciting!

I vote for the HM ghost theme as well for your costumes :thumbsup2

Oh Michelle...I know those days of my kids ditching me are coming...quicker than I would like...sigh! In the meantime, I will be soaking up all the hugs, hand-holding and kisses that I can. Declan in particular is so affectionate...I just love that about him. He and I are so very close...I know things will change as he gets older, but I hope we never lose that special bond, kwim? :)

OMG! One week! Can't believe your trip is almost here, :yay: and I am so looking forward to a first-hand account of any 40th anniv activities!

From a pure thematic ( and geeky!) standpoint, I will dissent and vote for Star Wars. But think that HM might be a bit easier to pull off and still very cool! Can't wait for pictures!!

Have a great time, my friend! :goodvibes

Thanks Christine! Don't you worry...I will report all details and will be sure to take plenty of photos of the 40th anniversary celebrations. I plan on documenting it to look back on in my old age. :rotfl: I can just see me now in the nursing home..spending my days playing Disney music and pouring over my photo albums.

The beach dinner was a great way to close out the last week of summer, that is for sure! We have been having some fabulous weather! :)

Thanks so much for posting again and for continuing to read...I really appreciate your comments! :goodvibes

Hmmmm...I think that makes 2 Star Wars votes, and everyone else going with the Haunted Mansion Ghosts. I keep flip-flopping, but I think I have finally decided...I am placing the order tonite so everything can ship out tomorrow. I will be back to update later tonite after I finish about 4 loads of laundry...the joys of being away last week, and coming back to a weekend of sun-up to sun-down kids' activities. Thank goodness I can watch the premiere of Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives and Pan Am as I fold clothes and start packing the kids' clothes for the trip.:)

Hi Trish!

First of all, my apologies for my absence over the last month - same reasons as every other mom - busy summer, school, work, an August full of vacations, sports, school shopping, work, etc. etc.! I missed your TR and the Dis!

Second, here is a hug for the entire 'weight' thing you mentioned , been there, done that, will do it again. I will put in another plug for Weight Watchers, I lost 15 lbs this year with them, it always has worked for me and I DO NOT feel like I'm deprived. It's a battle many of us 'once skinny naturally people' now have to fight as we approach our mid-life years. Thinking of you...

Third, your Destination D reports were incredible, I teared up reading about the final night and I LOVE that you went to MK and stayed until closing - go girl!:cheer2:

4. Cleaning out the house - another reason I have been away - the pile for donation in the garage makes me proud, funny, your list was the same as mine, including the junk drawer! I feel the need to have everything perfect before vacations, not sure why, it's just my perfectionist personality I guess - disturbing at times, but it is what makes me happy and relaxed, when it's done!

5. Summer updates - loved them all, thank you for all the pictures of your beautiful country and family! Summer was great here in MI. I also traveled to WDW in August with my DS12 for a mother-son trip. We stayed moderate at Coronado, very nice, nothing negative, just not deluxe. Had an amazing trip, so different touring with just 2 people and no 'resister'! I wish I could post my scrapbook for you on the trip report board, I just can't find time to do both.

6. 9/11 pictures, thank you, this has effected all of us, our world, it's different now. I'm sure with Chris being a pilot, you had a lot on your mind as things returned to schedule. I watched too much coverage this year and had some blues, but it's important to take time to remember and move on.

7. MNSSHP - we have done this 2x and loved it. DH and I have done semi-costumes, hats, t-shirts, etc. But if we do it again, full costumes! I vote for Star Wars, we are big fans at our house! Make sure to ride the new Star Tours multiple times, we LOVED it!

8. Best Wishes and safe travels, I'm SOOOOOO excited for you!!! Thank you so much for sharing your preparations and trip with us, I love living the magic through the trip reports, and yours are always excellent! We do things very similar which makes it even more fun to read. Blessings! Erin

Hi Erin! Thank you so, so much for your nice post! Great hearing from you again!:goodvibes

I am glad others can relate to not being able to keep up on the Dis sometimes. Life can get hectic, can't it? Right now I am focussing on trying to provide as many updates on our trip as I can over the next FIVE:scared1: days before we leave. Then, when we get back, I will focus on catching up with everyone. There are so many PTRs and TRs going on right now that I am interested in reading...if only I had the time.

I can't tell you how much encouragement and virtual hugs I have felt from everyone sharing their struggles with exercise, diet and weight. Thank you as well for that!:goodvibes

I would love to hear about your Mother-son trip. :goodvibes But I completely understand about not having the time to post about it. It still bothers me that I have yet to take Declan on a solo trip like I did with his sister when he was 2 and 4 years old, and still too young to travel. He does bring it up on occasion, and I have promised him that someday we will do it, but that it might not be for quite some time - perhaps until he is a teenager. The difficulty is that I can't get my head around leaving Katie at home to do it.:upsidedow (When he was 2 and 4 years old, it didn't feel so bad leaving him behind). Hopefully one of these days a horse camp or something like that will come up for her and I can take off on a little trip just me and my son.:goodvibes It truly is a great bonding experience to take off on an adventure for some one-on-one time.:)

MNSSHP Costumes

Finally bit the bullet and finalized the order...we are going as Haunted Mansion ghosts.

Hoping that the costumes, which are being mailed to OKW, are going to work out ok. I ordered 2 sizes for everyone except Declan since I don't want to be stuck at the last minute if someone's costume doesn't fit. We will just return whatever size doesn't work.

Star Wars was a very close second, and may have even won out if I wasn't so concerned about looking like a stuffed sausage in a white spandex Princess Leia or Padame outfit. :rotfl:

Believe it or not, I hadn't seen the original Star Wars films in about 20 years until this Summer when I bought them to show the kids, and neither Chris nor I had ever watched Episodes 1-3. I am now a complete Star Wars geek with a newfound love and appreciation for the series, and can't wait to ride the new Star Tours. This will be a new experience for everyone since I missed riding it in May when in debuted.

The good news is that I was able to convince Andrea's family to pick up the Star Wars theme for the evening. Andrea will be Princess Leia, Bryn will be Osoka (I still am not familiar with this character, apart from hearing Ashley Ekstein interviews as I haven't yet seen the Clone Wars), Devin will be Luke Skywalker, and I am not yet sure who Graham will be.

So if you plan on being in attendance at the Party on Oct.2nd (coinciding with Lou Mongello's 40 hour broadcast), and see a family of Haunted Mansion Ghosts socializing with the Star Wars characters - that will be us!

Welcome Fall!

For being the first weekend of Fall, it sure didn't feel like it! Our weather these days has been absolutely gorgeous. Tonite Katie was at a ranch for a birthday party and Declan and I found ourselves at 6pm on the beach when it was still 24 degrees Celcius (about 74 Farenheit). Just lovely!

As much as I enjoy summer, I am not sad at all to be turning the page to Fall, which is my favourite season. I love Fall decor, and especially Halloween, and I can't wait to see the Magic Kingdom decked out in all of its beatiful Fall and Halloween decorations again this year! :goodvibes

Whenever we are closing in on the end of September, this is when I typically bring out all of our Thanksgiving decor. (Canadian Thanksgiving is in mid-October, coinciding with Columbus Day in the US). However, as we will be leaving for Disney Friday, and won't be returning until Thanksgiving Day, I decided to skip over Thanksgiving this year and just bring out the Halloween decor instead. Once Halloween is over, I will pull the Thanksgiving decor out and celebrate it this year along with our American friends. While we won't have a day off work, we will still celebrate the holiday that weekend and cook a turkey. We just won't get an extra day off work.

So, to get ready for Fall, I purchased a couple fall themed items, including some tea towels, two Fall leaves candles from Bath & Body Works, which smell absolutely incredible, and a Fall-themed Owl plate.

September2011118.jpg

I also picked up some more Halloween tea towels. I never seem to have enough Halloween accessories.

September2011119.jpg

While I was in Bath & Body Works, I also picked up a bunch of hand sanitzers for our upcoming trip as well as some carrying cases. Oh, and a couple more Halloween candles and holders.

September2011121.jpg

In addition to that, I also bought a bunch of other items from the new Bake Shoppe line. Have you seen this line yet...delicious!!!

276503_194581660083_1895693980_n.jpg

This weekend I also indulged in my first Pumpkin Spice latte from Starbucks. Yummmm!!!

Did I mention how much I just love Fall??? :)

Trish! Love the Fall goodies!

Autumn (as it's called here) is also my favourite season....even if we're celebrating it in March. :upsidedow
We don't do Halloween or Thanksgiving; so we don't have the festive season this time of year. Just waiting on Christmas......:rolleyes1

But I do love the autumnal colours and the decorations in North America...so I'll be watching out for you TR and other updates along the way.

Good call on ordering 2 sizes of outfits for everyone. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see your family all dressed up as ghosts!

Trish, I was a bit behind, but I think I am all caught up. Love the summer recap -- I grew up reading the Anne of Green Gable books and would love to visit PEI some day. It looks just like the way L.M. Montgomery described it and how I envisioned it looking!

Hurray for your trip being so close, and I can't wait to see the HM costumes!

Your fall goodies are adorable! I am on an owl kick lately, so I am lusting after those towels and owl dish!

Glad you decided on the ghosts!

Fall is my favorite time of year too. Love your new fall treats & I had my first pumpkin spice latte last weekend!

Yay! I can't wait to see your HM costumes!

I love fall too, it has finally cooled down here, Jared had a baseball game yesterday in the middle of the afternoon, and it was around 80 degrees - just glorious weather!

Hi Trish - love the fall goodies - my favorite candle from Bath and Body is the Pumpkin Patch because it reminds me of, you guessed it, WDW, since we usually go in the fall!

'Dying' to see the ghost costumes - don't forget to bring some good stage makeup to finish out the look! I'm sure you are beyond excited and can't focus on anything but the trip - only a few more days!:cool1:

I really want to see photos of your costumes! What an excellent idea. :)

Bath and Body Works is one of my best friends. Seriously. I spend a lot of money there. I'm so thankful they have coupons out often! Love, love everything that you purchased!

Fall is my favorite season as well. It's the most pretty season I think. ;)

Haunted Mansion ghosts would have been my chioce. There is so much that can be done with that choice!

I like fall, but hate the cold weather. Our fall here so far has been chilly & very wet. We got 4 inches of rain today & expect more.:sad2:

No Halloween or Thanksgiving? Do you do them at other times of the year? Hopefully so! ;)

I will definitely take a lot of photos of all the decorations (fall and halloween) to show you after our trip. :)

Hi Jackie! :) If you are familiar with the Anne of Green Gables books, you would absolutely LOVE PEI. Believe it or not, I have never read them, although I am familiar enough with the main story.

Do you guys get the Anne of Green Gables cartoons for kids down there in the States? Every Saturday they are on up here - really well done. Obviously Chelsea wld be far beyond it at this point, but just wondering if you ever watched them with her when she was younger. :confused3 It may just be a Canadian broadcast.

Your costumes sound great!! Hoping this week flies by for you! :)

Flies by??!!! :scared1: I hope you are joking Christine! :laughing:You should know by now I will need every second of every minute in every day until we go to get everything done. I am absolutely panicking now that I won't have another weekend to get things all together before I leave!

Glad you decided on the ghosts!

Fall is my favorite time of year too. Love your new fall treats & I had my first pumpkin spice latte last weekend!

I just adore Fall - that is for sure!:thumbsup2

So funny that you had a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks as well. I hope you also had the full whip on it too....like I said, this diet thing isn't going too well at all in my pre-trip countdown phase... However, the flavoured lattes and whip will be off the menu for me when I get back! ;)

Yay! I can't wait to see your HM costumes!

I love fall too, it has finally cooled down here, Jared had a baseball game yesterday in the middle of the afternoon, and it was around 80 degrees - just glorious weather!

Isn't the weather fantastic!!! I seriously can't believe it, but tonite I was outside after dinner - around 7pm - and sweating!!! Now I am back inside and it is absolutely sweltering in the house. We used to have air conditioning in our old house, and nights like this I really miss it.

At least we won't be jumping from really cold to scorching hot Orlando weather this week. We are still wearing bathing suits, shorts and tank tops up here! ;)

I agree with you about the pumpkin patch candle - it is really great! You should also try the one I bought - Fall leaves. It is a brownish color - kinda blah, and the name doesn't exactly get me too excited, but my, oh my, is it a wonderful scent. :goodvibes

And you are exactly right about by excitement levels right now - completely through the roof!!!

I really want to see photos of your costumes! What an excellent idea. :)

That is exactly how B&BW gets me...with all those coupons they keep sending me. I am such a sucker for a great deal. :rotfl:

Trip Preparations...Continuing Quest for the Perfect Park Bag...and more Shoppping....

Chris is finally back home later tonite after quite a long stretch away, and will be off until we leave for the trip. Thank goodness...I could use his help getting ready.;)

Unfortunately, when he gets home, Chris is going to see that I haven't been the best gardener while he was away. This year we (ok...Chris) has been growing tomatoes, and has been wildly successful. We eat a lot of tomatoes in our house, and we haven't had to purchase any for months. I love eating foods that we grow and manage right in our own backyard. :goodvibes

With me being away Wednesday to Friday of last week, and then spending the weekend dashing from one activity to the next with the kids, I completely forgot to collect the ripened tomatoes from the vines. Tonite they were overflowing....at least I remembered to collect them before he arrives home.

See the many, many uses of a Mickey Popcorn container!

September2011123.jpg

While I collected all of the ones that were ready, there are tons of green ones still ripening on the vine. I hope they will be all set for picking when we return home.

September2011125.jpg

September2011124.jpg

In the meantime, we still have a ton of tomatoes to eat. I am going to try to pack some for lunch, and eat up as many as I can until we leave. On Wednesday I will bring some to work and drop some off with a few neighbours. We literally have that many.

Here is about half of what I collected tonite:

September2011128.jpg

Chris has also been growing a pumpkin patch in our backyard the past few years and ours is really starting to sprout. Hopefully when we get back from our trip we will have a couple of nice sized pumpkins to pick and put on our front step.

September2011126.jpg

September2011127.jpg

Ok - so now that this "city girl" is finished with her vegtable garden for the night, I really do have to get down to work. I have 2 loads of laundry to do tonite, and want to get a good start on packing for each of the kids. Tomorrow I will tackle my stuff.

I also have to get the house in order for our house sitters who are coming to mind the house while we are away.

So, on the topic of packing and organizing, let me show you a few things I picked up this year for our trip.

First, in my never-ending quest for the perfect Park Bag, this is what I came up with this year...

1187769_fpx1.jpg

Every trip I debate and re-debate my needs and try to come up with a multi-purpose, highly functional park bag.

The main things I tend to carry is camera and video equipment. From a purely practical perspective, I should go with a standard black camera knapsack from Lowerpro or Crumpler, some other camera bag manufacturer. But that would be too easy. :rotfl: The problem for me is that I don't like carrying a big black backpack when I am wearing dresses or dressier attire for the many signature restaurants we tend to frequent at night. Yes, I could make due with a black knapsack, but I prefer a more "dressier" bag when I am not wearing standard park attire.

Hopefully this new bag will bridge the gap for me. I will likely still use a backpack-style camera bag for the daytime park touring, but in the evenings, or when I am wearing dressier outfits, hopefully this new bag will do the trick. ;)

I love that it is color-neutral (while I LOVE Vera bags, I have never purchased one myself as I have always worried they would be too restrictive based on patterns and colors), and that it is a backpack-style, which will make lugging around a camera, video, and spare lens a bit easier than wearing a shoulder bag. I like having a hands-free bag in Disney, especially when manouevering through crowds with small children. ;)

I have some protection pads in the bag, so hopefully it will work well.:)

Of course, I have also made a couple clothing purchases leading up to the trip. For our visit to the Canadian Pavillion, and lunch at LeCellier, here is what the whole family will be wearing:

September2011122.jpg

Katie has the white shirt - the rest of us have the grey. I picked these up this week at the Bay (a Canadian department store). It is part of their Canadian Olympic line. I definitely want to get a photo of us at the Canadian Pavillion decked out in our Canadian shirts. ;)

Then, for our Irish night and trip over to Raglan Road, here is what I have for Declan:

irsh-1.jpg

Chris has about a million shirts to choose from, and I still have to come up with outfits for me and Katie. Here is what we wore back on St. Patrick's Day on March 17, 2009, but we probably won't be that festive this time around.

WDW-Mar2009256.jpg

Finally....moving on to the most dreaded purchase of every Disney trip for the last 5 years: the swimsuit.:scared1:

Last year I lucked out by picking up a great suit at J.Crew.

AAAADAHYfpAAAAAAADz5XA.jpg

I really love this suit, and have it in both black and navy blue. Both will be coming along with me on this trip.

However, I also took advantage of some really great sales at Lands End, and purchased this suit.

398468_A710_FF_HME

It is actually a swim skirt and tankini top. I know! I swore I would never wear anything this matronly before 40. But I also didn't plan to be this size either.

I have both the top and bottom in Navy, and the top in a coral pink color which I can also wear with the navy swimskirt.

I wore this during 3 visits to waterparks in NS and PEI this summer, and it was so comfortable! So much so that I didn't feel the need to grab a cover-up when walking to grab lunch or walk around the parks. Even in my skinny days, I would NEVER walk around a canteen without a cover-up of some sort, but this outfit is modest enough that you feel somewhat covered when walking about. I think it will be the perfect swimsuit for the waterparks.

And just to prove that I have not closed the door to the possibility of ever wearing a bikini again in public, I also picked this up in a much smaller size than I would be wearing now...:rolleyes1

398277_A611_FF_GC3

This suit is fantastically comfortable (even though it is much too small for me right now), but should be a great motivator for me to finally get back in shape when we return from our trip. ;)

Roots Photo Shoot

Once again this year, we are doing a family photo shoot with the Roots. Or at least I am doing it with the kids. Chris knows we are doing it, but it will be his choice whether or not to attend. He hates having his picture taken and is incredibly uncomfortable in front of the camera, so part of me thinks it might be best if it is just me and the kids. ;)

At least once every year or two I like to have professional photos taken of the kids. That is my main priority. I would also like to have some taken of me and the kids as too often I am behind the camera.

Very quickly I have to figure out what we are all going to wear for this year's shoot. At this point, I think Katie is wearing this:

server

And I think I will be wearing one of these dresses...yes, I have this same dress from Anthropologie in 3 colors. When I find something that I like, I tend to buy multiples. :rolleyes1

21355649_068_b

21355649_053_b

21355649_081_b

Declan is the one I still have to figure out. I am waiting until I firm things up with me and Katie, and then I will hopefully fit Declan into a polo shirt in a coordinating color.

This year we are doing the shoot at the Poly. I love the green tropical backdrops there (where you don't necessarily know you are at Disney), but also envision a couple shots with some classic unmistakable Disney landmarks in the background. Whatever happens, I know we are in good hands with the Roots. They never disappoint! :)

And with that, I will sign off for tonite so I can get some things accomplished before bed! ;)

It sounds as though you have everything under control. I love the Coach purse. I have the cross body Coach bag that I use on all my Disney trips. It's way to small for all of your camera equipment. I think you made the right decision there.

Now all you have to do is start packing. Oh, and the picture taking at the Poly is going to be great. Can't wait to see those photos.
