I had a blood test on friday which my GP sent me for when I went in with persistent dry patches on my lips. Now I suffer from anxiety so I asked her what she was checking for. I was told anaemia, and that she was checking my thyroid, my blood count, sugar levels and (i quote) 'all that stuff'.

Today i was told I'd have to go and see the DR because the tests showed something. The woman on the phone said I just needed a routine appt and it wasn't anything to worry about. But don't they have to say that?

So now I have about 2 hours till my appt to sit and sweat :-(

No they don't have to say that? Your numbers are "off" and quite possible it is anemia or thyroid issues. If so the doctor needs to tell you that and give you a prescribed course of treatment.

I am an "expert" hypochondriac. I will tell you that it is "rare" that they can definitively tell you that you have cancer from a routine chem panel screening (the type of test you had) and I don't know of too many deadly diseases that cause dry patches on the lips.

I know, easy for me to say, right? I'm a nervous wreck about these things myself.

Hang in there and let us know how it all turns out!

Try not to worry! I know, easier said than done. If it was something serious usually the doctor will call you. Maybe one or more of your levels is just slightly off. I'm sure you will be laughing at your nerves after the appointment!

Good luck and let us know how you make out. :wizard:

Thank you both so much. Christine - I used to post here under another name and you were always so good to me because we both suffered from anxiety - :grouphug:

I hate doctors like that. My Rheumatologist is the biggest alarmist. He had his nurse call me the afternoon after a friday morning appointment and tell me that my blood culture came back from the lab in mere hours marked critical and it was imperative that I be in his office when he opened at 9am Monday. Of course the nurse had no idea what was wrong with the culture so I sat there all weekend crying, wondering what was wrong with me.

Then when I get to his office he and his nurse are literally running around trying to find a hospital that can take me in immediately for an EKG and to start me on IV antibiotics and still wouldn't say what was wrong with me. I sat down and started crying and yelled "Will someone please tell me what is wrong with me you people are scaring me to death!!" :sad2:

He still pulls this crap on me to this day whenever my test results come back off - which is often.

Try not to worry too much.. I'm sure its nothing bad or they would have you come in on an emergency basis and not just as a regular appointment. I know how scary the wondering what it is can be though.

Here's a little extra pixie dust for you.

I hope everything turns about good today.

No, if there's anything serious, they definitely won't tell you it's nothing to worry about. They would just tell you that you need to schedule an appointment to discuss with the doc. And probably the sooner the better.

Prayers for you! I'd relax on this one.

hey, sorry the update took a while, couldnt find my thread! it was nothing terrible - its a B12 deficiency - have to take some medication (including a weekly shot - ouch) but im just pleased it was nothing terrible.
Thank you all for the p+pd :goodvibes
