Can I buy DVC this way?

I'm not in the position to buy SSR for $14K right now. I don't have that kind of free cash around and I hate financing stuff.. here's my question - can I buy small resales say 25-50 points at a time say through TSS? If I own such a small amount of points am I considered a DVCer? Then if I want can I buy additional points through Disney? My plan is to buy 25-50 points at a time until I have what I want.. I am patient .

I rented points off this board last christmas and stayed at boardwalk and loved it - totally hooked. really love beach club and would look to buy there because isn't that what you should do - buy where you love? Any advice or opinions would be so much appreciated.... thanks future DVCer

Yes you can, although very small contracts like that are few and far between. 100 pointers are more the norm. I would call TTS and tell them what you want. You might get a shot at something before it gets advertised.

To answer the rest of your question, yes, once you're a DVCer, you're a DVCer - no matter how large or small your contracts are. If you have 25 points, you can buy 25 point add-ons from DVC (50 if you need financing)

Just remember that closing costs on all those smaller contracts will be a bit of an issue.

Sure - you can easily do what you are suggesting. Just remember, as disneydiane said, that you'll be paying closing costs on each contract, so factor that in to your budget (an additional $350 - $500 per contract if I remember correctly!!) Also, you might want to be aware that small contracts might be more difficult to manage with different use years, so it may take more time to find the small contract with the same use year. But on the other hand, that gives you more time to save up for the next one!!!

You described my plan for DVC. I just bought a small contract through TSS at OKW and now I can add on at any resort through Disney. I also don't believe in financing because then to me the value has somewhat been diminished by paying interest, even on a Home Equity Line. Anyhow, once you are a DVC member and can buy any # of points over 25 directly from Disney, there are no closing costs and if there isn't a waitlist for the resort you want, you get your points almost instantly. I am debating now between BWV and BCV, and am going to check both of them out more thoroughly this September while we are there. I did notice a 50 point OKW contract this morning at a resale broker...but they go so quickly. The one we bought was sold before it hit the website, so you need to contact a broker and let them know what you are looking for and be ready to jump on it when they call.

That's true - once you are in the system you do get to buy directly through Disney with no closing costs - just depends what resort you want and whether they have any points available in your use year. I think it is correct that once you are in the system, you can ony add through Disney in your current use year, whereas with a resale you could add any use year you wanted. Or, you could do both....

Yes - I know many do finace but the notion of financing prepaid travel is a tough sell for me (unless you are counting on future price appreciation to justify it). You could make an argument that you are better off renting points for cash than financing a purchase. We started with a 50 point resale contract and added on 30 from Disney before buying our "final" resale contract.

There has been many discussions about this very subject on this board but depending on your credit history, there are ways to finance DVC with 0% APR. Many credit companies offer 0% interest for 12 months these days. Some people have used Discover card to finance 0% for life of the loan, etc. so this might be option for a financially responsible individual. Keep in mind, you don't have to be rich to let other people's money work for you. It takes little planning but it can be done.
BTW, I financed the last 12 months of my car loan using 0% offer from Discover and it worked out great.

I just couldn't handle 4-5 small contracts, I would think the bookkeeping end ofit would be a nightmare!!! I have 3 contracts, all March Use Year at VWL, and MS sometimes has issues using the correct points!!!
