hi. when we paid for a package for our 5 year anniversary, we got upgraded to a suite because they were full to capacity. but now we have the dvc membership and it clearly states that you cannot get a suite or room in the main building of the GF which is where we will be staying in april 2002 (can't believe i have to wait that long!!!)

has anyone ever gotten an upgrade to a suite using your dvc points? if so, who did you talk to and how did it all happen. i want to surprise my husband with an upgrade to a suite and i don't know how to do it.

you can also email me directly at:

thanks!!!!!!!

Like you said, officially you cannot upgrade to a suite when you are using DVC points. I have heard of some people asking at check-in if one is available. If there is they will let you upgrade, for a price. During check-in at the Grand Californian last month, I asked about upgrades to concierge. I was told that I could for $75 per night.

Although unlikely, a free upgrade is a greater possibility at an non-DVC property. On our recent 8-night BWV visit we had reserved the first 2 nights in a standard-view unit and the last 6 in a preferred-view unit. When I politely asked about a VIEW UPGRADE for the first 2 nights so we wouldn't have to move mid-stay (and I stressed that I would take any preferred-view, not necessarily boardwalk) the CM was very sweet and seemed genuinely interested in accomodating me, but her first move was to call MS. The CM was told by MS that we had 3 options if we wanted one unit for our entire stay: 1) use additional points to "pay" for the upgraded view (we didn't have enough), 2) pay cash for the first 2 nights, 3) stay in the standard-view unit for all 8 nights and have the extra points put into a holding account.

Although it wouldn't have cost the resort anything to honor my request (and in fact housekeeping would have been able to do one less full cleaning) I understand why they don't want to give DVC members a "break' since it would be hard to draw the line once they started making such accomodations.

CMs at non-DVC resorts would not be familiar with DVC rules and would have no reason to involve MS so I would think that upgrades would be more likely.
