i have a recipe for a black forest coffee cake that i would like to make...but i'm not sure on one of the ingredients! it calls for liquid shortening...does anyone know what that is? or what i could substitute for it? or is it something i can just go to the store and purchase?

HELP!!! i'm wanting to make this for my DH tomorrow, but i can't figure out for the life of me what liquid shortening is!!

I am Guessing here, but, shortening is fat, liquid fat would be oil. Does this make sense for where you use it in the recipe?

that's what i thought...but i just wasn't sure!!!

Sounds like the recipe may be from outside the US originally. In the states we'd call that vegetable oil, but I recently ran into a recipe from Europe that called for "beef" oil. The translation on that one was melted lard!

I'd try the Crisco oil or something similar! Let us know how it turns out....

thanks for the replies...

i made my balck forest coffee cake for DH this weekend...and i just went ahead and melted regular shorteningon the stove top into liquid form and added it to the recipe. i think it worked alright! i've never had this before so i'm not quite sure on what to compare it to...DH loved it though...i may try regualr oil next time though...to see if it makes any difference...
