Can anyone recommend a hotel in Tampa, possible with a bay view?

We are going to Disney and then Vero Beach. The flights we purchased are at 10:35 am on Sunday morning, 130 miles from Vero Beach. I thought it might be easier to stay at Vero most of the day and then drive over and get a room in Tampa for the night. Can anyone recommend a nice, not too expensive hotel in Tampa? A bay view would be nice!

the Grand Hyatt is right on Old Tampa Bay. it's very nice and right on the water. you're going to pay more for a hotel near the water, but there are many other nice ones in the area.

I stayed at the DoubleTree Guest Suites in Tampa during a business trip in May. Close to Tampa Airport. Beautiful view. But the best part was there were Dolphins in the inlet by the hotel. And if you walk behind the office buildings next door there is an inlet that the dolphins would come into during high tide. You could stand by the side and they would swim right by you. There were dolphins with calves there too. A person that worked in the building told me that the mothers bring the calves in there to teach them how to fish. It was the highlight of the trip!

This is the Doupletree on North Rocky Point Drive West.

there are a lot of dolphins in those channels and lagoons around the causeway. you can often see them just driving by. there's also a small, secluded beach near these hotels, Cypress Pointe Park. it's kind of tricky to find, but white sand and a lot of wildlife.

Yea..it was pretty cool. Especially for us "Ohioans!" Much nicer than a a carp by the pier in Lake Erie... :) I have seen the dolphins from a distance when at my Mom's in Bradenton, it was pretty cool watching them swim literally a few feet away with thier calves.

it doesn't matter where you're from or how many times you've seen them. it's always a thrill to see them that close.

I agree. Every time I'm at the beach and see them I run up to get a closer view!!

Thanks everyone! I'll check out your suggestions! I would LOVE to see the dolphins!!

I don't know much about Tampa, just stayed there once for a night, but we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express just off one of the main highways which runs over the bay. Our room faced the bay and had a nice view for a moderate price. The hotel was also adjacent to a Bahama Breeze restaurant so we could just walk to the restaurant from the hotel.
