Can anyone recommend a good Camera ?

Hi , just wondered what Cameras that you all have . I do have a good Nikon but its a body one with lenses so too big to be carrying around . Just want a nice compact one that will be good for day and night . Also have any of you bought them over in Florida if so do you find them cheaper . Another also how do you go on for memory ? Any help appreciated .

We use either a DSLR or the camera on our phones. We have a Nixon DSLR that we take when we ate going need a really good camera.

Other than I have an iPhone 4S and DH has an HTC one. We have used photos from both in our photo books.

You can't go far wrong with the Lumix/Panasonic TZ range, we have had a few, all excellent cameras.
This model was reviewed recently by What Digital Camera who said:

As for memory we back up onto 2 laptops & a memory stick every evening so we have 3 copies of each pic.

Those Lumix cameras are amazing. I know a few people who have one or another model of a Lumix and the image quality is superb.

Personally, I would not want to get a new camera out there unless there was a significant saving because you don't want to be fiddling around trying to navigate menus and settings when your holiday starts. I want to know my way around my camera so I'm 'good to go' with photos from the get-go

We have a canon DSLR and a Canon Ixus.


I can't recommend the Ixus enough, it is amazing, takes great photos, is light and small!!

I don't have a compact camera but if I did, that is the one I'd go for. The OP would HATE my camera I have a Nikon D7000 and happily carry it everywhere with me but after a 14 hour day in a park with it round my neck, especially with a telephoto or heavy UWA attached my shoulders and neck were starting to talk to me about it

I have a lumix and love it. The zoom is amazing and for a compact camera the quality is also great.

I bought a Lumix (I've got the previous model, the TZ30) as I wanted a better camera to take to Alaska and I am so pleased with it, the zoom is amazing and my videos have come out very well. I normally take rubbish photos but for the first time ever I felt when I viewed them once I'd got home rather than the usual

Going to look at this as everyone's saying its a good camera , going to also look at the waterproof one as I have a cool pix AW100 that is waterproof but picture quality is rubbish not very good . Do love my Nikon but the weight and carrying extra lenses is just more to carry . At least with a little compact you can get a case that just clips onto your bag not a bag in its self . Good idea about laptop too as my dad loved photograph and spent at lot on cameras but my mum had her bag stollen while in London when they stopped over after touring France and they lost all their photos !! We have lots of fanatic family photos to look back at but only really noticed since the loss of my dad that he was always the one taking the photos so he's not in as many as he should of been . Thanks for the good advise as always . Oh and defo going to look at sorting an extra battery out too because camera always dies just when you really need it !!

2 suggestions for you:

Regarding the waterproof aspect, I bought a waterproof pouch on eBay a few years ago, one which accommodates a zoom lens on a compact camera, and my DD uses it for in the pool and at the waterparks, as I don't take my DSLR to the waterparks. The upside of that is that you can buy the camera you want and waterproof it just for when you need it. In all likelihood, you would be taking the vast majority of your photos in situations where you don't need it waterproofed. Just a thought

DSLR: Would you consider taking yours as well? Many folk I know take theirs along with a compact camera and designate specific days as 'photo days' with the DSLR, often when they plan to stop back at the resort/hotel for a break making it not such a long day. One all purpose lens mounted to the camera means you wouldn't need to carry any extra lenses and those batteries will easily handle a full day of shooting with some power to spare at the end of the day.

I have a Nikon 1 J3. It is fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough.

It has some great, very easy to use features, and takes pictures very fast so you never miss the moment.

I'm in love with my Samsung WB150.. true, it does only have 14.2 megapixels and 18x optical zoom but I find it REALLY easy to use unlike my brother's which is much better spec.
