Can a trip be too long?

We typically do a 9-11 day stay and are quite happy with them. 2 days for each park and down time for the rest.

I definitely believe a trip can be too long, but it all depends on how you handle the trip and who you are with. If you are at the parks for even a week, with kids,
getting up for rope drop and making sure you are there for the fireworks, it can feel too long.

Depends on who you go with :)

I was coming on to say exactly this.

In 2015 we did our longest trip 10 nights. It’s was too long. Mostly because of my 15 year old son being crabby and teenagerish part of the trip. It just put a damper. I think mostly because it was too long for him to be out of his routine. My son is a 6-7 night trip max type person no matter the destination. It’s too much change and stimulation for him.

Did a 9 night trip with just DD when she was 12 and it was great. On departure day I still wished I could stay but I was ok with going home. We’re planning a 7 or 8 night trip again just the two of us next year. I’m still undecided on dates. But I know we won’t get bored.

We do two weeks, and generally we will do full park days and scatter in some rest days. We try not to do more than two full park days in a row. We do stay off property for Disney, so the big expense is park tickets and not where to stay for us, so it makes sense. We also do USO and stay on property during that time, since it's worth it for us to do one of the deluxe hotels and get the unlimited express pass.

Three longest trips: 18 days, 24 days, and 28 days!! Never bored. However, no fast passes may change our vaca time to WDW. I do not mind three fast passes a day but none and waiting in line = no good for us. (Maybe if we were younger we would not mind.)

Your first concern was would you get bored... and you end up asking about trying to cram too much in.

And you can’t visit Orlando without visiting Disney.

And you want value for your vacation dollars and cannot go on these trips but every few years.

Are you over complicating this?

I absolutely am over complicating it, but I don't know any other way to be 😄

If you're able to rope drop or stay till the park closes (one or the other, not both) you'll probably wait in lines less than when you used FP+. The crowds are so much better dispersed throughout the day without the FP+ system steering guests to certain attractions.

This forum won’t change you and your Type A, binder-type Disney fan personality :) but you will get a whole lot of input on what should do for your trip, that’s for sure.

After about twenty years of abundant travel, I have finally slowed down to smell the roses. Partly because I have been able to return to places and have the expectation that I can go back again. And I’m not as young.

I do love the planning and researching for a vacation. Currently, it’s plotting what booths to visit at Flower & Garden Festival in May.

Have a great trip. You’ve got this.

I do think there is such a thing as too long, but not in the realm that you are talking about. I would start to question our stays if they went over two weeks.

Our first two visits were 7 nights, then 8, then 9, then 10. 10 is about right for us not to rush anything and have enough time in all the parks in case of bad weather, ride availability, etc... It truly allows us to fully unwind. I find it harder to leave after 10 days rather than 7 days because the whole experience is just more relaxing and you get in a nice groove.

We’ve always done 4-5 days trips and crammed everything in and by the end we felt satisfied and ready to go home but exhausted!

we are planning a 7 night/ 8 day trip in 2022. We plan to get park tickets for each day.. BUT to take in slow. Example: rest day with dinner in Epcot. Take long afternoon breaks. Ect.

This is the type of trip I typically take. 9 nights, 2 at universal, 7 at WDW. It is a little busy, but it works out well. The part that always feels a little rushed is Universal. Last time we bought the express passes and that was a good call because we could fit a lot more into a short stay. When we go again, we might do 3 nights at Universal, and 6 at Disney. 6-7 at WDW is plenty for us, and we usually only do 3/4 days in the parks, either sleeping in or leaving early.

It depends what kind of trip you want to do....in 2018 we spent 9 days just at Disney and still didn’t do everything! However, last year (pre-COVID) we planned a different kind of trip and did a 3 night Disney Cruise, Kennedy Space Center, a few Universal days, a Hollywood Studios day, and a Skyliner/resort hopping/Disney Springs day before flying home. Both were great!

our longest trip was 16 days, but most were close to 2 weeks. None of them has been too long, and we always have time for real vacation days eg. reading a book in Typhoon Lagoon. we realized pretty early on that we max out at 7 park days total ie. incl Universal or Seaworld and we've never used more than 5 water park days.

It really depends on whether you have other vacations in the year. If you do, you might not mind not having any downtime during your Disney trip.

Disney involves a LOT of walking so it partly depends on how physically fit those in your party are. Miles of walking every day can add up no matter what age you are. Probably also depends on how many days you typically go on vacation to other destinations. There are the practical aspects of how much clothes to pack and if you will need access to a washer/dryer after so many days. There isn't one type of Disney vacation that works for everyone.

I finally figured out our rhythm by our 3rd WDW trip. We def need to have a break day (pretty much stay at the resort, except maybe dinner) for at least every 2 park days. I don't want to come home more exhausted than when I left.

We went 2 weeks during our second trip and had a 10 day hopper, but only used 9 days. We def started to get bored at certain parks, but my husband and son started playing the card game, kingdom keepers (or whatever it's called), so that added new interest. I think we're spoiled by DLR where there's more to do packed in one park, and if we get "bored," we just walk across the esplanade to a whole new park! :goodvibes

My trips have been 8 to 10 days. I have never felt even a tiny bit bored. There's always a few things I wanted to do, but we didn't get to it. I really would love to do a solid two week trip so we could have a couple days at Universal, a pool day, and the rest Disney park days. Maybe once the kids are out of the house!

Our school year trips are 6 days, and winter break 10 days. Those are all just fine. We don’t rush, take breaks. We have gone multiple trips 2-4 weeks in length (remote working and vacation time) and only once did we feel it was too long. As long as we pace ourselves and enjoy the downtime we usually don’t feel burnout.

Our best trips, imo, have been in the 9-10 day range. They seem less hurried, less packed full of stuff. We do have a 12 day trip coming up and that will be our longest yet. Looking forward to how that stacks up.

8 days is max for us, it isn't that we get bored per se, just are ready to leave and feel like we have had a great trip at that point. We also do a lot of down time and don't stress too much about fitting a ton in each trip anymore. That said, in general, I prefer multiple shorter trips over one long trip, it just fits my personality better.

We never get bored at WDW - whether we do the parks are not - but by 5 days I start missing my own bed.
