Camping with Cub Scouts

Hi

I have just finished my first year as a Cub Scout Den Leader and am about to go to Cub World with my 7 year old son for the first time in July. I am actually looking forward to it. Is there anyone who can give me some advice about what I need for camping? We are sleeping 3 nights in a lean-to. I already have sleeping bags and pads and was advised to bring a tent to close off the lean to and give us more privacy. We are going to the Cub World at Camp Alpine in New Jersey if anyone has gone there. Thanks, looking forward to some great hints and helps for this novice.

I don't know your neck of the woods but thanks for being an active Cub Scout dad. I did Cubs with my two boys from 1st grade to present. One made Eagle and another is almost there. I was Cubmaster for two years and den leader at every level Cubs has.

Are these lean to's more like three sided small cabins with a roof and an open wall? Or are you sleeping on the ground/dirt? Let us know and we can advise as appropriate.

Keep it fun and positive for your son and maybe he'll stay with Scouts for a long time.

We went camping years ago with our grand- clubs scouts (grandson) in Huntington, WV and it rained the whole time, I knew very little about tent camping, so I went on camping board, to find out info.
I'm so happy that I listened to where it said to bring two tarps one for underneath the tent and one for over the tent. We had the only dry tent in our little area. I also bought a little camp toilet which came in handly for little granddaughter. You will have a lot of fun with the boy scout camping. They will have tons to do. It was really the best time ever. Sing a long, boating, Archery, hiking, and fishing.
