Planning our dec 2013 camping trip at FW first 2 weeks of dec because of projected low crowds. Called today to book our site and all preferred sites were booked. Just curious if anyone has camped during early dec and how were the crowds at the campground/park?

We have a premium site booked 12/22 thru 1/3. I called yesterday to change something on it, and she said December is pretty much booked up except for tent sites and a few premiums! I am SO glad we reserved our months ago!

We were there the first week & half of Dec. 2010, and 2012. Dec. '10 was *freezing*, so wasn't very pleasant, 2012 was *perfect*, weather wise and crowd level. Surprised everything is booked so early. I didn't book last year until late spring! (were in loop 100 both times) We don't plan to go this year in Dec., just April for F&G Festival.

The CC crowd level is never an issue as far as we're concerned - don't ever notice any problems.

Keep trying, hope you get your ressie. pixiedust:

Preferred sites in Loops 100 and 200 (and 300 which is pet friendly) are located at "Ground Zero" for Christmas decorations. The area of 100-200-400-700 probably has more lights/decorations per site than any other location in the Fort. Of course, lots of sites all over the Fort are decorated and some all over are big displays.

People arrive at those sites sometimes weeks in advance to get the location. I think also a number of snowbirds who spend the winter months at the Fort stay in the Preferred loops. When Samantha Brown came down to film her Disney Christmas special for the Travel Channel several years ago she spent a lot of time in this Ground Zero area.

Crowds at the parks are low in early December and the weather is usually very nice. But the Fort is getting more popular the entire month so it won't be quite as empty.

We made our reservation this past week online and the only thing available was the tent / pop-up. All other areas of the park were unavailable, did not discourage us though, we love to rough it. Will be there 12-21-13 til 1-5-14.:santa: Last visit to the FW was 9-28-12 til 10-7-12.
