Ok....looking for some opinions here on some basic camera stuff.... I have an iphone 5s which is ok for random little pics (like my nephew at the ice cream shop etc) and we've had a small p&s that's waterproof for fun (but not great) pics while in watery places like snorkeling, pools, etc. I love wildlife,(birds esp.)and I love photography- I'm an avid amateur.... I take some nice shots even using just what I have....that said, I'm shopping for a point and shoot with a great zoom. Why p&s? B/c even tho I know how much more versatile a great dslr setup could be, I want something small enough to take with me all the time, that has somewhat ease of use, but that can still be used/adjusted to take great (amateur) photos. I have been researching and comparing a lot of models, and in the small sensor category (oh yeah, there's my budget also....) I have narrowed things down to the Canon sx720 which seems popular right now,or I've been looking at the panasonic zs50...... even though the zs50 is older, and is 12 mp vs. 20, it rates as a better choice when compared at the online sites I've looked at. Also a possibility the Canon sx710- it appears to be very similiar to the 720, with a shorter zoom. 30x vs. 40x- all are image stabilized, and allow the user some latitude when getting shots, which is what I'm looking for. what is your advice? I have a tiny budget (or I'd be buying a larger sensor super zoom p&s) so any advice regarding my options would be great.

At around the $200 price range, there's more cameras that will take serviceable pictures than you'll want to evaluate. You might as well stick with the Canon or the Panny. Buy from Costco or B&H - both have great return policies. You can then always return it if you decide you made the wrong choice.

I'm not too aware of the specific models that you mentioned. I have not indulged in the PaS world for a few years. What I can tell you is don't base your decision
off of MPs. Anything over 10 will look amazing on any website and/or computer screen. Higher MPs are good for printing but are largely unnecessary for viewing
on a screen. With that in mind, focus on the features that you will want to use. If you are looking to take more photos inside, look for a PaS that has good manual
controls where you can set the ISO and compensation settings. If you are looking to take photos on or of rides, look for one that has a fast shutter speed. At the
end of the day, technology has come a long way and most cameras these days are pretty good in sensor quality. Just get a camera that has the features you will
use the most. Lastly, go to the store and play around with them to find out which feels
the best to you. Or lookup camera rentals in your area. Hope this helps!
