So I've been using the Crumpler 6 Million dollar home for about a month now and it's been fine. (Can't actually say that I love it yet.) There's one more zoom lens I want to get and I think that even with that, it will be ok fully loaded.

Here's the newest problem, though. I picked up an 8" Netbook, primarily for travel, but also to bring places around home with me from time to time. I'd love to be able to store the netbook in this bag for those times (but obviously would leave in safe at WDW). Problem is, there's no place for a laptop with the 6 MDH or even the larger ones that I can tell.

I did, however, find another type of Crumpler bag that I believe would do the trick, called a New Delhi bag. This would be perfect for me. Unfortunately, it's only sold in Europe as far as I can tell. I tried to order one of AmazonUK but they won't ship to the US. AmazonUSA could not get one for me through them, I called. :confused3 Crumpler USA never responded to my emails. I've searched everywhere I can think of and cannot find one for sale in the US. I did get in touch with a person who customizes Crumpler bags (with pictures on the front and such, not design) and he said that Crumpler has two different markets, USA and European. So I guess it's not available from the USA makers. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any ideas?

No useful advice, but I clicked on the link for your bag and it seems that in Europe "Crumpler makes you sexy." That doesn't seem quite fair. :lmao:

Maybe one of the UK posters here would volunteer to take shipment and send it to you? Otherwise, I'm willing to make the journey and bring one back.

I got the Tracy Job Kristen bag for Christmas (per Susan aka Chikabowa's recommendation earlier in the thread) and so far, I love it.

Definitely for the price and comfort, I would give this bag 1.5 thumbs up, the only thing that might make it two would be if it was made of some sort of water resistant/proof material so I wouldn't have to worry about using it if it was starting to drizzle while I was out, etc. As it is right now, it's made from what seems to be cotton...so it'll be sopping up any precipitation that may land on it.
And that bag's not padded, right?

It seems like your friends here on the DIS are always willing to help another photographer out. Maybe try to find one of them who lives in the UK that would be willing to buy one and ship it to you, and have you pay them for it (though an invoice via PayPal or however). It takes a little trust, but I think I read another post on here about Mickey88 having Kat4Disney buy him a camera in Vegas and ship it to him...so it must work sometimes!

Good luck! :goodvibes

And that bag's not padded, right?

I don't know if I would call it padded or not. It's got some cushioning in the little cubbies around the lenses...they each have their own little sleeve, but not enough that most people would probably consider using for actual transport of their lenses. Susan called it a shoot-bag, which it is.

I will use it as my "transport" bag for a long weekend we have scheduled in DC just because it will be sitting on my lap in the car, but as far as sticking it in an overhead compartment on an airplane (does anyone actually do that??)--it's probably not secure enough to trust in that situation. I have found it's cushy enough to handle a bump against a door frame or placing it on the ground a little too roughly, but if you are just looking for something to take around and shoot with--I really like it.

Won't fit a laptop though :sad1:

So talked to AmazonUS again. No go.

Emailed AmazonUK and haven't heard back yet.

CrumplerUSA returned my call but wasn't aware of the New Delhi bag (though they liked it a lot. :lmao: ) Can't help me get one and don't carry anything just like it.

I know there'd be people from the UK who would help if I asked. But I really don't want to put anyone through the trouble when I can most likely eventually figure out how to order this myself (from "somewhere" over there) and have it shipped directly to me.

Amazing what we go through for the sake of this hobby, isn't it? :faint:

Actually I bought the camera from BEst Buy via telephone and fax,
Kat4Disney then drove to the store picked it up, drove it to the UPS store, called me and I did the transaction by phone with them.

the only expense she had was her time and gas money for the 30 mile drive to best buy,

she's a wonderful woman, but I don't think she's crazy...LOL

That's what I meant. If I know how to say "potato, poTOTo" on here better, I would. :rotfl: I just meant have someone pick it up. If she paid them first through PayPal, I think anyone would be crazy for then using their own credit card to pay her for it.

On a side note, shouldn't you just be impressed with my amazing memory that I even remembered reading that on one of these boards? ;)

Like Linda said, it's amazing what people will do for this habit...it's only fair that we help fuel eachother's obsession, isn't it?? :goodvibes

I was quite surprised to see that story mentioned, that was back in May '08

Here's the bag (backpack) I finally found. It took a lot of looking, but it was worth it! It is the perfect size. It fits so much but it's not huge! Plus it's feminine. It's black with pink stitching & the lining is adorable too. I got it at Ritz Camera for $47.99. I have a nikon d60 with a pretty good size lens (18 - 200mm). I love it because it fits the camera with the lens attached plus there is so much more room for all my other stuff. :thumbsup2

Have you ever calibrated your monitor? I'm not really seeing a green cast. If your monitor is not calibrated then you'll never know if your images are actually color balanced.

Also, skin tones can be accurate but still not look pleasing. These can be two different goals. Read this help page (http://www.smugmug.com/help/skin-tone). I hope you find as helpful as I did. Good luck! :)

Me too!!!! :goodvibes In that transaction there was far more trust needed on Mickey88's part. After all, I had his nice, new, and paid for Sony in my hands. Maybe he's the crazy one?!?!? ;) Or is it just crazed by photography?!?

But it's always fun to help others spend their money on this expensive hobby. LOL I wonder if I could find a way to get the crumpler bag for Pea-N-Me.....hmmmm, no trips to europe planned however.

i think you have to have a smugmug account, it comes up "help to the rescue" and a blank page when i click the link then had a visitor help page with just basic stuff about smugmug

I do all my white balance corrections in Nikon ViewNX (free at nikonusa.com). Very easy to change white balance on a nef file. It has lots of presets and then you can tweek them or set your own.

I found dealing with lightroom to be more of a pain when trying to change settings, especially if you have any presets in camera.

I don't know what it is but whenever I use ViewNX no matter what I do after saving them everything turns red. I'm not talking a slight red cast, like major red cast. Looks fine in ViewNX and PSP but view it in Windows etc, red. DD pointed it out when she took some pics and put them in shared docs. I didn't even notice because I never viewed them in anything but my programs. So weird.

Question for you, do you mind elaborating on camera presets? Can you point me in the right direction to learn about these? (cause you know, I just don't have enough complication in my life!:lmao: )

I found the same article on their message boards. Try this link:

http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1091766

I don't think you need a login for this one. I realized, though, that this article describes making adjustments in Photoshop or other photo editors. You can't use the same techniques in Lightroom because you have to switch to CMYK color mode to make the adjustments.

I've always had some trouble getting good skin tones in Lightroom despite the use of a color balanced gray card to set my white balance. In looking around the internet it sounds like I'm not the only one. Each RAW converter has a different idea of what colors should look like. I fond that the colors produced in Phase One's Capture One are more pleasing to me. You might to try a few different RAW converters to see how you like them (i.e. Silkypix, Bibble, whatever comes with you camera, etc).

You should also take a look at a newer function in Lightroom 2.2. In the Develop module go to the bottom of the slider on the right side of the screen and choose "Camera Calibration." The first setting under that tab is "Profile." Adobe has tried to emulate the different color renderings of each camera to match the manufacturer's settings. Cycle through these choices and compare the results on your image. You might find something that is more pleasing to you than the default Lightroom profile.

Here's a video that gives more info: http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2008/video-camera-profiles-for-lightroom/

Let us know how it's coming along! And don't give up on RAW yet... :thumbsup2

Aww, you are sweet, Kat. Once I get determined about something I will find a way, dammit. :teeth:

None of the three UK retailers I wrote to yesterday responded. :confused3

That included AmazonUK. (There was quite a fiasco when someone at Amazon USA offered to transfer my call overseas.) I wound up calling myself (once I figured out how) but apparently it was nighttime.

Crumpler USA called me a second time and told me I should consider a Bucket bag. :rotfl: (I think I'd prefer the vest.)

How do I get myself into these things? Leave it to me to not find a bag that everyone else uses. ;)
