If anyone has one or plans on getting one....let me know how you like it. lol

Shootsacs are supposed to be great, I have read nothing but positive reviews on each site I visited a while back while looking for a shoot bag. I ended up taking another DISers recommendation and got the slightly less expensive Tracy Joy Kristen bag, which I am really happy with.

Looking for some advice on what bag to carry while at Disney in Feb.
I usually shoot with a Canon XSi, with 1 or 2 lenses (17-55 & 70-300) and a few other pieces of gear (filters, extra card case, p&s backup cam, etc)
Currently I have a Lowepro Slingshot 200, but I'm worried that it will be too bulky and heavy for multiple days at the park, (and worried what I will do with it while on rides).
Does anyone have advice on what they have had success with? How much gear to you carry around, and in what kind of bag?
My ideal would be to carry 1 or 2 lenses, cards and have some room left over for books brochures etc, but in a smaller bag than the slingshot. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
Adam

Take all your gear down with the L 200 then get yourself an AW toploader for those day/night trips !! http://products.lowepro.com/catalog/Toploading,8.htm :goodvibes

I have the Lowepro mini trekker. I carry my Minolta 7D, 2 extra lenses, flash, plus i can put the video camera in there. And my filters, extra cards, etc. That's just on the inside. The 2 pockets on the front are HUGE! I can usually get my son's diaper changing stuff, plus snacks, etc... in those. Not to mention my own stuff and carry it around the whole day.

See Lowepro's site under backpacks (sorry I don't have enough posts to be able to post a link).

I was able to score it on super sale at a local photo store. I love it. It comes with every trip!

I have both the Lowepro Slingshot 200 and the Tamrac Velocity 7 Slingpack. I have carried only the Tamrac in the parks. One of my main concerns was what to do with it on the rides. It fits in every storage compartments on the rides except on Rockin Rollercoaster and Space Mountain and then I wrap the sling around my leg.
Here's what I carry in it... On Alpha days I carry the A100 w/50mm and either my 70-210 or Tamron 28-75 and a flash. On Olympus days I carry the 410 w/50mm attached, 70-300, 14-42 and a gorillapod inside.
Some people don't care for the Tamrac but it works great for me. :thumbsup2

I shot these all in Adobe RGB so that's why look faded, however they were converted to sRGB so they shouldn't be. The deeper I get the harder it gets and the more frustrated I get. Oy, what looked decent looks like crap now...:(
If you're shooting raw, it doesn't matter what the camera is set to. The photos look fine to me...? :confused3 (And I just recalibrated my monitors a week or so ago.)

Using Lightroom's "camera calibration" certainly helps, and if I don't like the white balance, I tend to click around a little around a white area until a get a variation that I like. Occasionally I'll resort to the presets, rarely to Auto (it doesn't make me happy too often), and if I'm real desperate, I'll start blinding dragging the sliders around until I get sick of it and decide to just live with what I've got.

You think it's bad with DSLR raw files, you should try to adjust WB with scanned negative film raw files! :scared1:

Good God, I hope my wife never sees this thread! :lmao: Last trip to WDW, she had bought four bags in the first three days... she has a bit of a problem. ;)

She bought a red Crumpler $5m bag early in the year for her K100D, kit lens, and 50-200mm lens (which is pretty small). It almost feels too large for the camera, but yet doesn't have a lot of extra room for other stuff. I fear that after dropping the big bucks on it, she might not even bring it to WDW this trip! But then, we need to carry diapers (hopefully not for much longer!!!) and other assorted kidstuff; if your load is not so high, it's probably decent enough. The main thing I don't like about it is that the velcro strips are massive and make a ton of noise when you open it.

When you hover the WB eyedropper tool over the image in LR the the preview window in the left toolbar shows what it would look like if you clicked on that part of the image. This way you don't have to click, click, click.

Is it just me or you any of you get mistaken for PhotoPass Photographers? I get it at least once a day when I visit the parks. More so when I am using my tripod.

Typically, I get people coming up to me asking if I will take thier picture. I say sure and instead of handing me thier camera they hand me thier photo pass card.

I have it happen all the time..., my favorites from my last trip..

1.. my nieces did not know I was going to be meeting them at Epcot, I got there early waited inside the gate, my brother in law asked if they wanted to get there picture taken, they reluctantly said Ok, as they apporached I asked if they were ready to smile for me and they simply said Ok, not recognizing me...I finally said HELLO wake up... and they looked again and screamed...do you work here now...granted I was wearing my vest and also had a khaki colored hat that I had pulled down low over my eyes to fool them

2. a photopass photographer walked up to me near the partners statue and asked If I had seen Ricko, I said I don't even know who Ricko is..he said aren't you one of us..I smiled and said no...

3. we took my nieces to the princess meet and greet..when we got inside, one of the photographers looked at me and thought I was his replacement, and was going to go on break..

I had it happen multiple times during my trip back October. I spent about 4 evenings all alone in the parks (Dh took DD back to the hotel) shooting with a tripod. I got all sorts of odd questions. It happened at least 2-4 times each night!

That's classic and I've got to say, you look pretty authentic with the khaki vest--I might have done the same thing. :goodvibes

:lmao:

Yeah, it happens, especially when I have my tripod. I've also overheard people walking by saying "He doesn't look like PhotoPass; I think he works on their brochures and commercial stuff."

For as long as I can remember I've had people come up to me in stores and all sorts of places asking "do you work here?" or "are you the manager?". It happens so frequently (at least weekly) that it's become a running joke with my wife. She says that I just have that "look", like I know what I'm doing. :)

It's crazy! Usually it's people just looking for help, but the other day a big burly biker-looking dude got all in my face at a drugstore yelling, "You people suck! You don't care if your customers die..." yada, yada. I smiled and said, "Uh, sorry, but I dont' work here. I'm a customer." That set him off even more, but at least he turned and walked away out of the store. For a moment I thought I was going to have a throw-down.

Back to the original topic, getting mistaken for a PhotoPass photographer...
I sometimes keep our park tickets, FastPassess and stuff bundled in the small clear plastic pouch attached to my pin lanyard. All that stuff makes for a tight fit in the pouch, so anytime I have to get something in or out, I have to pull out the entire bundle. Well, I was at Epcot with my tripod and I had just arrived at a spot to get an early evening shot of Spaceship Earth. Apparently I had dropped my PhotoPass card, completely unaware, and this pretty Asian woman with her husband had picked it up and was returning it to me. I said, "Thank You", and took my card from her outstretched hand. I pulled the bundle from my lanyard pouch so I could add the card to bundle and I noticed that my PhotoPass card there. I told her, "Thanks, but this isn't mine", and she stood there with a perplexed expression (she didn't understand English). Then it dawned on me that this lady handed me her own card, thinking that I was a PhotoPass photographer! I apologized, and explained, using body language, that I did not work for Disney, and we had a laugh. Luckily there was a PhotoPass photographer down the path and I pointed him out to the couple.

I was not mistaken as a Photopass photographer, but I was mistaken as a newspaper photographer last year at a local event. I also had someone mistake me as a Walmart employee not too long ago. She got all huffy when I said I didn't know where the thing she was looking for was. She started into some rant about poor service, disrespect, blah, blah when it suddenly click in her head. I don't think I have ever seen someone get so red in the face. She was soooo embarrassed, but I got a good laugh. :rotfl2:

I got it one night last trip at, oh, 1am or so... a couple PP photographers with tripods were set up in front of the Partners statue and I was off to the side, attempting to do a wireless flash shot with my tripod. Someone walked up and tried to hand me their Photopass card... so I told them that there was a special discount, $50 that night and they could get unlimited shots the rest of the trip. *

The shot in question was this one. I took it a few times and kept running off to the side to hold the flash to light up Donald and I'm fairly happy from a technical prospective, though the composition leaves a little to be desired.

* I didn't really say that

I was trying to get a night shot in the Animal Kingdom. I didn't have a tripod, so I moved over a table into the middle of the path and set my camera with the Gorillapod on it. I was patiently waiting for everyone to be out of the frame. There was this one couple just standing in front of me about 15 feet away looking right at me I was thinking to myself, "Why in the world won't those (&(% people move so I can get this shot." They weren't moving and I wasn't shooting. Finally, the guy walks over to me and says, "Aren't you going to take our picture?" "Uh, no, actually I was waiting for everyone to clear out for this shot..." The guy said, "Aren't you photopass?" Nope, just a tourist....
