Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

A big :thumbsup2 to all who completed their long runs this weekend!

I did 10 miles on the treadmill...it wasn't too bad as I've been saving the complete collection of "China Beach" DVDs to watch during long runs. Anyone else remember that show? It ran from 1988-1991. Lots of fun 60s music in the soundtrack, which keeps me moving! Plus, no commercials to bore me!

DH ran 8.5 outdoors, with snow, ice, wind and temps in the 20s....brrrrr!

OMG!! I just found out about China Beach FINALLY having been released on DVD -- I LOVE THAT SHOW!!! I need to buy that to tough out some long treadmill runs after we get snow this week...

THANKS FOR THAT REMINDER!! :thumbsup2

Can anyone confirm if there is a KT tape booth at the expo and if they'll tape you up? And if so, how much does it cost?

Yes-- if I remember correctly, they would do 1 application for free. Not sure if there was a cost or if they would do more than one. When we were there, the line was long, but then again, the lines for EVERYTHING were long at that time.

You're welcome!

The pilot and the first episode of season 1 got me thru my 10 miles on Sunday! I actually went a little longer because I wanted to see the end of the first episode! :)

Now I can't stop humming the theme song...

Thanks! I'm trying to budget for the expo.;) I'm hoping that if I go to the expo Saturday morning it won't be quite as busy because of the 10K. That's my theory anyway. I still need to book my flight for Friday, though, and who knows when I'll get in.

I never watched China Beach, but my husband used to watch it all the time. He had a crush on Dana Delaney.

Thanks for all of the support everyone. : )

BernardandMissBianca: I like the strawberry honey stingers too. That is what I take with me on my long runs. The bike store my dh goes to had them half price a couple months ago because they were right at their expiration date so I picked up a bunch.

So proud of everyone getting your long runs in!! Keep up the hard work ladies. We are soooooo close!!

I have a 10k race I am doing this weekend. I am really excited and hope it gets me feeling more comfortable about the enchanted 10k.

Does anyone know anything. About the chEAR squad? My friend is being kind enough to accompany me to disney so I bought her the platinum chEAR package. We are staying off site so we will be there early. Does she just wait around until 5:30?

I'm staying at the poly for GSC. Anyone else get a letter from Disney saying there would be no monorail from 11 till 5 (I think). I hope I was sent the letter in error and that service issues will be resolved before then

I did not get the letter altho we are staying at grand floridian not poly) but I saw that online. Week days (so not sat and sun during race) only and I saw 11am til 7. At least from poly u can walk to TTC for Epcot monorail.

When this happened to us a few years ago on vacation they didn't send a letter either. We found out after unpacking and visiting the parks. I was livid. But it turned out not too bad.

At the Expo in January, they would do one application for free. I have achilles issues on both legs, so when I asked her the cost to do the second one; she said they were just asking that you buy a roll of KT tape. I committed that I would buy one, she did both legs. Then I went and got in line to buy the tape; ended up buying two rolls because the show special was 2 for $30 which was significantly cheaper than I've been finding it on amazon. (note: they didn't really check to make sure you went and bought the roll...it was more an honor system thing).

Good luck!
Brooke

At Tinkerbell they would only tape you if you bought a roll and were limiting it to one leg or spot due to how busy it was.

EEK!! I just finished my top for my costume! :yay: Working on my skirt today! I'm getting excited and scared!! 31 days till I get there!!!!! Are you ladies running in your costumes outside or on the treadmill? I'm thinking treadmill because 1) I'm not running in a tank and skirt in 20 degree weather and 2) I need to sweat in it (gross, I know) to see if the fabric marker will run.

I tested mine outdoors, but if I had a treadmill, I would have tested it there! I got some crazy looks outside

I tested mine outdoors, too. I am probably going to test my 10k costume inside though as I am making a short full on princessed out Belle skirt. I got stares enough testing my Half costume.

Finally able to do a long 7 mile run this weekend after having IT band/hip issues for about 2 months now. I was feeling really good and just had really minor pain up until about 6 miles in and then it got worse, but I still feel like this is a big improvement, as I was really only able to run about 2.5 miles a few weeks ago before there was a lot of pain :( I have been stretching and foam rolling 2 times per day, and 3 if I run. Should I be rolling more that that to try to get it really loose?

Also, does anyone have experience with KT taping the outside of their hips? I'm considering trying it, but it just seems like an awkward place to tape and I wasn't sure if it would do any good at all :sad2:

I had hip brusitis when I ran the W&D and used KT tape. It really helped me get through the race and I was in a lot of pain. The KT people at the expo would not tape that area since you basically have to have your shorts off, but there are good instructional videos on the KT website. For that area it did help to have someone else around to assist as the pieces of tape are large and you have to stretch the muscles and the tape. However, you could do it solo, in fact, the video shows the person taping the area alone.

Good luck with the race...I am still in recovery mode and haven't been able to get my miles up since November. Just hoping I have enough foundation to finish both races.

I just saw a post about "Perfect" princesses. When I did the PHM 4 years ago, my friend and I bought tiny tiaras to wear - it was the only costume-y thing we wore. My DD is doing the race with me this time and I got her a tiara to wear. Are we not allowed to wear them because we are not "Perfect" princesses?

On another note, I'm a walker and haven't had a chance to do more than 6 miles at one time this winter (here in MD - more than 6 inches of snow today!), and I've only done that 3 times since July. I am totally worried about finishing, especially if the weather is warm and humid. DD will be running way ahead of me! :rolleyes2

You can wear whatever you would like.. I think what they were referring to was, "perfect pricesses" will receive a tiara/sash for doing so.

Running on a surface that has a lot of give--like sand, or mushy snow--can be really tough. Traction isn't as good, and your muscles are working harder to stabilize your leg/foot and provide your liftoff. For me, I feel it in my hip flexors. I hope you can find something that works for your next run, but if not, just take it slow. Also, it wouldn't be unusual if your knee pain was related to your tight calves/shins. Do you stretch after each run? I stretch my shins by kneeling on the ground, then sitting back on my heels. And stretch my calves with the tried-and-true lean against a wall with one leg back.

I stretch after warm up and cool down, I have DS17 roll me out, different shoes, etc, nothing helps. I over pronate and when I was born my feet were shaped like a C, but sideways not toes over heel. The fact that I can run period is a miracle. It's just miles 2-3, if I can make it to 3 I'm ok. My knee could be from my calf but it did feel like my other knee last year which turned out to be a frayed meniscus. I'm really really hoping that is not the case.

Today was a short run. I needed to do 45 minutes but only got 20 in. School was being dismissed early due to snow. My calves were really tight again. I think I need to do some yoga or something on the off days.
Hope to hit the open road Friday but with the snow and cold temps I think I'm going to be stuck doing my 11 on the treadmill.

I think what I liked most besides the flavor was it made me work my jaw. I tend to clench my teeth a bit when I run so it really helped. I also like the pink lemonade and orange stinger gummies. I need to try them on a longer run though and see how they hold up.
