Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

I've tried both, so I can give you my comparison...

Yes, Sparkle Athletic (formerly Team Sparkle) skirts are shorter and less full. They're also meant to sit low on the hips, not at the waist.

Sparkle Skirts are several inches longer and quite a bit fuller; definitely more coverage. They seem to want to sit at the waist.

My preference is Sparkle Athletic because full is a bad, bad look on me and I'm short, so added length isn't flattering, either, lol! I also prefer things to sit very low on my hips, which made Sparkle Skirts very uncomfortable for me.

I agree with this. I don't like Sparkle Skirts because I can't stand things up around my belly button. I like things down on my hips. I asked if they could make one that could sit lower and they said no. I love the Rapunzel skirt so much though, that I bought it and am going to figure out a way to alter it to sit low!

I also love Rock City Skirts. They are similar to Sparkle Athletic but they have some themed skirts as well.

Thanks. :) It actually has been raining here, as your DH described, but that rain turned to sleet for us yesterday afternoon and then froze. :( It's ok - I've had my panic session for the day but am now dressed and ready to do the TM trot. ;)

Hey... question for those who have been to the Expo before: do they carry the special NBs in odd sizes right there? I wear a 10N and thinking I'll either miss out because they won't carry them, or I'll totally luck out because they will and very few others will need them. :) I can usually take advantage of NB clearance sales because of this, but thought they may only bring regular sizes for the event.

Hi. I checked for you. The shoes only come in medium or "b" width. Sorry!

You know, I hadn't really considered Sparkle Athletic because of the slimmer fit, but I'm liking some of the things that I'm hearing here. If you have a smaller waist but fuller hips, do they tend to ride up during a run?

Nooooo!!!! Man, I was hoping they'd have them but I'm not surprised. Thanks for checking! :)

Have you looked into a flip belt? I got one in November and love it! It's a solid band you step into, and on one side there are several openings that's where you put in phone, iPod, id/cash, gels/gu/fuel etc. Then you flip the belt so the openings face your body. I don't even notice I have it on. It's about the size of the band that would fold over on a pair of yoga pants, for a size estimate. I usually put my phone (which I play my music on so basically my iPod) ID, card, house key, and sport beans or chews.

These look awesome! I think I'm going to pick one up. :thumbsup2

Lululemon makes capris with deep pockets and each side, as well as a zippered pocket in the back. I tend to go with these for long runs so I can ditch my flip belt and any of the readjusting issues that goes with it. They are pricey (I think around 80), but they are worth it!

I remember when I got my first pair of Lululemon yoga pants - loved them. I haven't bought anything from them in a long time because I no longer have one right by me, and the thing I loved about them is that they would hem their pants to fit you perfectly (but needed to be checked in-store). But their capris, that would be a different story. The $80 is pretty steep, though. I wish UA had some with pockets - love the fit of my full-length ones.

I am also in! So excited! This is my 2nd yr running and I'm going for 5 so I can get that sash and crown princess:princess:princess:
Ive already completed many other half marathons and 10Ks.

I had a question for you guys that have more experience with Disney races.
I have a group I'm running with. There's a few beginners. I can finish in 2:30, at thats the time I submitted for my corral. But on race day if I opt to just go to the back with them is that ok?
And, yes proof of time is required but is it really checked? I mean for a 1st corral I can see, but for the 2nd or 3rd to last?...
I know there are rules for everything for a reason, but often at the actual event things can be shifted a bit.

You are allowed to move back corral(s), no problem. Unless you submitted proof of time --either at registration or by the deadline--to back up your 2:30 claim, they will start you in the last corral. They will verify it, adjust your corral accordingly, and email you an acknowledgement that they have received it.

Disney has done away with doing corral changes at the expo. I guess they figured it was too much of a hassle--some people were gaming the system and were rude to boot.

Hi! I am sorry if this has been asked already but I don't know how to search. Staying at the YC- what is the best way to get to the start? Walk? But I couldn't walk through the park because it won't be open yet, right? Is that possible? Bus? Is there even a bus from YC to Epcot since it is so close? I've never stayed there before so am not familiar with how close everything is. Thanks!!

we were just in Disney last weekend for Marathon Weekend. The park will be closed, so you wouldn't be able to walk through Epcot to the race start. They have special charter busses that run from each resort to the expo and the races and back to the resorts every day, so you can take the bus to the race the morning of. They say to be on the bus no later than 4:00 AM to allow enough time to get the drop off area, and get to your corral.

I just stayed at Yacht for Marathon weekend - it was GREAT! You'll get a race bus from the front of the hotel, in front of the conference center. YC was the first stop, so I never had to wait; empty bus when it pulled up. It then stopped at Beach Club, where it filled quickly.
After the race, buses are right near the finish, so hop one there to get back. Easy!

I may be wrong but I believe the tiaras and sashes are only for "perfect" princesses, which means they've run it every year since the inaugural race, not just did 5 in a row.

Best price for a 2day or 1day park hopper? I know Disney is not doing discounts this year and that's really dumb in my opinion but oh well

I don't know how to quote two posts but thank you princessV and cep mom for your helpful replies about getting to the start!!!

You are correct - Perfect Princesses have run every PHM.

My pleasure! One note of caution re: YC - no quick serve without a fair walk. I craved a breakfast sandwich after the half, so got off the bus, walked up to the YC lobby, doooowwn to the quick serve at BC, back to YC, and to my room at the far right wing. That was pure hell on post-race legs! I'd suggest having something yummy in your room or ponying up for room svc :)

Just found this thread and am so excited.

I will be running the PHM with my DH.

We did the 2013 DHM, which was my first one ever, and we had so much fun. Training has been harder this time around with the obnoxious weather.

I just did my 10-mile run yesterday on the treadmill. Just mind-numbingly awful. If I can't get outside to do a longer one, this will probably be my longest until the race.

we are staying at BCV, and I am attempting to make an Anna costume.

My two DD's are doing the kids races, and DD7 is doing the one-mile. So I am also attempting to make them little running costumes too. I may be being a little over-ambitious with my crafting abilities. :rotfl:

So excited this time. I am thinking I may actually take a break this time and actually stop for some pictures.

As part of my outfit, I am actually going to wear a cycling jersery for a shirt. I haven't tried it yet... anyone have any experience with wearing a cycling shirt for running? Should I re-think this?

Given that cycling jerseys are also tech material, I would say that as long as you are comfortable in it (freedom of movement in arms, chafing, etc) then it should be fine. Make sure you run in it beforehand to check out how it works.

I find my cycling jerseys a little too form fitting and substantial to be a comfortable run jersey, but if whatever you have works for you, great! I imagine the pockets could come in handy (although whether things would stay secure while running is a question).

Testing out my Half costume today. I hope I'm ready for the stares.....

What/Who are you going to be? I am curious.
I am planning on dressing as Esmeralda. I have a purple running skirt. Purple belly dancing skirt, purple shoes, a white running top with turquoise trim, kind of like Esmeralda's corset. And a black cap with pink trim to represent her pink headband. I will be wearing this unless it is too cold.

I'm going as a princess but slightly outside the box. I'm going to be Sofia the First. I have a lavendar shirt, purple sparkle visor, and lavendar sparkle skirt that I sewed the Sofia dress motif on. I also have a Sofia amulet to wear. Capris underneath and either white compression socks or I might order some lavendar compression sleeves. Haven't decided which I prefer yet. My hubby, sticking with the Disney Junior theme, is going to be an Imagination Mover.
