Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

My dh and I ran 11 miles today. My heel and my hips hurt and I felt like I was going to throw up when I got home, but we did it! lol

But now I might need a hug, I called my mother a little while after I got home, I didn't even tell her that I was sore, I just told her that we had run this morning. She said that she thinks it is "stupid" that I am running and she "doesn't give me any credit for it". What?!

Oh well, I am 52 years old, I should be used to her attitude by now. I guess it always just hurts when it comes from your mom. My kids and my dh are all great and very proud of me and I am proud of myself.

Thanks for letting me vent. I will see you all in FIVE weeks!

 Ugh, I'm so sorry. My mother is less than supportive, too (particularly weird given that she used to run...), so I get it. Try not to let it get to you; you KNOW how capable you are and how much work you've put in - let no one diminish that!

Just got home from 6 miles, pain free!!!! I am BACK! It was so nice to have the only discomfort a slight twinge in my right hamstring and nothing in my left foot!!!

Hang in there. My DS thought I had lost my mind when I started running a year ago. Now I've finished 6 - 1/2s and one full. Now he has gained respect for what I'm doing and even some admiration. Hang in there your mom will come around At least you have a running buddy. I do my training alone.

I did 9.8 miles Friday. It was my longest run ever, I so wanted to quit after mile 2 but I stuck with it. Mile 2 is hard for me because my calves and shins always tighten up, no matter what I do. It took 2 hours and 20 minutes but I maintained a 14 minute mile until mile 7 then slowed down a little bit. I think I waited to long to fuel and my knee started to hurt.
The downside was my knee was in pretty bad shape all day Friday and a bit yesterday, walking was ok but stairs are still a little hard. I think it was the surface I was running on. It's like a mix of fine gravel and sand, but it was mushy due to rain and snow melt. When I ran on the paved parking lot I was fine, but once I was back on the path it hurt again. I think I need to find a different place to run for my 11 miles this Friday, but I'm scared to run on the road, we don't have safe roads to run on here.

On the up side, the Stingers Strawberry Wafers are yummy and they didn't upset my stomach.

A big :thumbsup2 to all who completed their long runs this weekend!

I did 10 miles on the treadmill...it wasn't too bad as I've been saving the complete collection of "China Beach" DVDs to watch during long runs. Anyone else remember that show? It ran from 1988-1991. Lots of fun 60s music in the soundtrack, which keeps me moving! Plus, no commercials to bore me!

DH ran 8.5 outdoors, with snow, ice, wind and temps in the 20s....brrrrr!

Thanks for support. My mother never ran, but she used to do aerobics all the time and she loves Disney. She is just weird. Oh well, I do know that I have put a lot into this and I am enjoying it.

Wow, 6 1/2s and one full is a lot for just starting to run a year ago. Good job! Thanks for the encouragement. It is nice to run with my dh. He has been running since high school, he never thought that I would become a runner. He is impressed : ) And our daughter will be running the PHM with us too.

I'm going as a princess but slightly outside the box. I'm going to be Sofia the First. I have a lavendar shirt, purple sparkle visor, and lavendar sparkle skirt that I sewed the Sofia dress motif on. I also have a Sofia amulet to wear. Capris underneath and either white compression socks or I might order some lavendar compression sleeves. Haven't decided which I prefer yet. My hubby, sticking with the Disney Junior theme, is going to be an Imagination Mover.

McDuck, that sounds very cute. It is so fun to put a costume together. And I don't think anyone will be staring at you. There are going to be lots of costumes.

We sound a lot alike! I always say that the second mile is always the worst for me too, and we are running about the same pace. Congrats on finishing! :)

I went 10 miles yesterday on the treadmill. I watched some movies to pass the time, so it wasn't too bad. My shins are still not 100%, but the compression sleeves that some other princesses recommended are making a difference, so yay and thanks to those who made the suggestion. !

Working on my costume more this week. I opted to be Anna from Frozen (instead of Belle as I had originally planned) at the request of my DD. :)

Congratulations to everyone who finished a long run this weekend! We are almost there! Happy planning and safe running. :)

We, your WISH family, are very proud of you!! Great job on the run!

I know it's lousy that your mom doesn't support you- but remember too they grew up with totally different views of women and what they should and shouldn't do (especially for those of us in our 50's.)

All of here are proud of you, take care of yourself.

Doing my first 10 miler today! Excited to get going(and get it over with lol), just waiting for the sun to come up a little more. It's actually 35 degrees out today, should be perfect!

Running on a surface that has a lot of give--like sand, or mushy snow--can be really tough. Traction isn't as good, and your muscles are working harder to stabilize your leg/foot and provide your liftoff. For me, I feel it in my hip flexors. I hope you can find something that works for your next run, but if not, just take it slow. Also, it wouldn't be unusual if your knee pain was related to your tight calves/shins. Do you stretch after each run? I stretch my shins by kneeling on the ground, then sitting back on my heels. And stretch my calves with the tried-and-true lean against a wall with one leg back.

sunshinecruise Sorry your mom is not supportive. In my family, it is sometimes my sisters who question my sanity. I just ignore them. You will learn to ignore the naysayers, too.

I did 10 yesterday outdoors in the cold and wind. I am not going to let myself become a "winter wuss". I have the gear and I just decided to craft a path on bare roads. So I stayed in the neighborhood and did a loop. I had all my winter clothing on--it was a far cry from running the 1/2 at WDW last weekend in warm/humid FL!

Can anyone confirm if there is a KT tape booth at the expo and if they'll tape you up? And if so, how much does it cost?

I'm staying at the poly for GSC. Anyone else get a letter from Disney saying there would be no monorail from 11 till 5 (I think). I hope I was sent the letter in error and that service issues will be resolved before then

It's not an error - it's been talked about on the boards a lot. I actually think the closure is until 7pm, not 5pm? I will find a link and come back.
