Breaking even is still a great feat! Either way, I'd say we're both in a great place if almost a year out from the Disney race we're running an hour/less. I'd be happy to submit that time, but I figure I'll have plenty of time to improve!

I'm sure they wouldn't be getting 25,000 runners for some of their races! Boy, that'd make a mess of the last corral, wouldn't it?!

Well, the race official was a bit off. She told me that my time was an even 1 hour with 18 nanosecond.... but as official results were just posted... it was 1:00:18.56 seconds. So not a minute over... but a hair over an hour. I do think it is a good time. I just wish I would get to a point where I wasn't in the bottom of the pack.

And the local race gets over 50k runners...so it is a big race. I am just not sure I will want to do it being in that back group. (since my pace for yesterday was 9:42 and that won't count) I know that people have this as their one and only "activity" for the year. So lots of slow walkers....

Ahh, yuck. That's a big group of walkers to be stuck in the middle of. Do you have time to try for another pace race?

I could probably push for one, but the more I think about it... there are more fun ones that I would prefer to do rather than a "serious" one in order to get a good pace. Course... I think 9:42 IS a good pace, so maybe that is why I am feeling a bit defiant in it. I guess my next 10k race I do will be on April 7th and that will be ahead of the registration deadline...so we will see.

So my next real concern though is... runkeeper. It was off for the phm and it was off for this race. It makes me wonder if my training is all off... KWIM? I may have to switch programs... maybe just use that tricky watch I got for Christmas instead. ;)

I too wonder how accurate the apps are. I have been using I run smooth. There was only a few second difference between what that app said and my official time. This surprised me because I started the app when I thought we were lined up, only to find out we were facing the wrong direction and needed to get behind everyone. Since I am a walker, I didn't want to be trampled by the runners. Especially the really fast ones that are doing a 5 min mile. Anyway, I thought this would effect the outcome. I am not sure if maybe the app paused because we were stop and go with our walk. My other concern is I like to transfer the info over to run keeper my original app. But I always lose a couple tenths of a mile (usually 1-2, this time it was .5 off).

I was thinking about getting a watch. I was wondering what kind of watch you got for Christmas and since you said it was tricky if it is hard to use. I only need the basics and something simple.

I am also wondering how some of the trackers work. I just bought the Nike + sensor for my iPod, the first time I used it seemed accurate, but the second time I went a different route. Told me I did 5.18K in 29:29, but after I drove the route in my car and it read 4.2K...silly question, but which would you say was more accurate? I mean, does the length of the car make any difference???

I've been using Nike+ for the past couple months and THOUGHT it was pretty accurate. Recently I've noticed it's been pretty off several times which was a bummer. On Sunday it shut off and ended my run mid-race! I'm thinking about biting the bullet and looking into a GPS. Probably be better to have something that won't be draining my phone battery, too!

I had a lot of issues with my Nike+ app, that led me to getting a Garmin. I once used it on a track(measured distance and it had me at 3.95 miles when I did 3.5. Then I ran a timed 5k, it had me at close to 8k, running my first mile in 4 minutes. That's never going to happen lol. I love my Garmin and it's never had issues.

I say "tricky" cause I just have been too lazy to look at how to use it. It is the pink timex one.... they had it at the expo this year... I will have to figure it out. My run today with runkeeper was wonky too.

I'll be running my first mid/long distance run of the Spring 13 season this weekend. I'm super stoked its the Hilly Marine Corps 17.75k :D. This translates to 11 miles. Next half marathon is in roughly a month as well in DC the Nike Women's Half.

After using my Endomondo app on my phone and getting some mixed results AND having the phone battery completely drained way too often, I bought the Garmin Forerunner 10.

Like you, I only wanted the basics and something easy to use. This watch is both. Easily programmable straight out of the box [and I am not a techie], small, lightweight, and with nice big numbers - this watch has been perfect. It was the right price, too.

Have fun with your training! By the way, I read that you finished a half in little over 3:30 [I hope that's right!] - congratulations!!!! You are well on your way to the PHM.

I finished the PHM as a walker. Because of the crowds and my picture-taking, I finished in a little less than 4 hours. My previous half marathons had been finished in a little over the 3:30 mark. For you, since you're getting prepped so early, I would sign up for the PHM on day ONE! That will help in your corral placement so you don't have to worry about staying under the 16 mm time AND fighting crowds at the same time. I'll be doing that as well.

Thankfully, I had a 10K time to give the folks at Race Relations [at the PHM Expo] which moved me from Corral H [last one] to Corral E.

Thanks for the info on the watch. What I posted was a training half on my own with no people. This was in preparation of my real first practice half. Everything I do before Disney is just practice : ) I will be doing my first real practice half with people with lots of people in just 20 days. Yikes it is coming up fast and so are my nerves. I have these horrible fears of what if there are no port a potties, what if I am the only walker with short intervals of running.

I forgot to ask two questions about the watch. 1. Does it tell time like a real watch? 2. Any idea if it would work on a cruise ship?

I just might have to order this one too! Thanks for the info!

My aunt had the same nerves as you did. There are TONS of port-a-potties. The first cluster of them you'll come across will have extremely long lines, but just hold it and keep walking and you'll find more with shorter lines. And they are found quite frequently along the race route.

And I think people are so focused on their own running/seeing the characters, they don't notice what other runners are doing! No one is watching you but yourself. :cheer2:

In theory no. But maybe.

There's speculation that signing up early might get you to a higher corral if you are on the time bubble between corrals. Say they need to fill 50 more slots in corral C and they are looking at all the folks with 2:45 time submissions. How would they choose?

The thought is first come first served.

But there's no proof this is the case. Just speculation.

I just got my DBF to agree to run the Princess with me next year :cool1:! I'm so excited! I'm already two weeks into training and I'm signed up for a half marathon July 22nd.

I'm thinking of running a 10k in April to get a time to submit during registration in hopes of getting a better corral. I know my DBF can't be placed any higher than corral C and he'll probably be there he's fast... jerk :rotfl2: I'm going to aim for a 9min mile for the 10k next month (maintained 9min mile pace for 4 miles this past weekend feeling good!), anyone have any idea what Corral that would put me in? I have the Half in July and another 10k in August to hopefully improve my time but I want to get as far up as possible during the initial Corral placement process. Any insight would be great!

I read through most of this thread and it looks like there are some amazing people here. I can't wait to get to know everyone over the course of the year!

I was in corral C last year and I submitted a time within the 10-11 m/m range, so if you maintain 9 m/m you should be good, but again like a PP said, it depends on how many other people are putting in that same time or faster.

Lucky that your DBF will do it with you! Mine runs way too fast to stick with me for that long :P

Aimee

Faster time gets you a better corral. I wish Disney had more corrals or a different system. I'm afraid of getting choked in my corral :/ I've never run a half slower than 2:10 and I'm capable of sub 1:55 hoping to sub 1:50 in the next 12 months.

Anyone here a Garmin Runner? If so how has it worked for you at these runs? I have the 610 currently.

Also how warm is it in the mornings at Disney? I know they heat their pools I'd like to do some laps.
