On the subject of corrals, can any past princesses shed some light on previous corral break downs? What was your submitted pace and where did you place? I know the corrals change from year to year but it would be nice to get an idea.

I turned in a 15K with I believe an 11:55 pace and was bumped up to C for PHM this year. I think C had finishing time of 2:45 or less I believe B was 2:30 or less not sure on A. D was 2:50 E and F were 3:00 G was 3:somethingAnd H was the rest

::yes:: that sounds right. I know I submitted a 10k with a pace of about 10 1/2 minutes per mile... calculator put me at finishing a half in less than 2:30...but the rep at trackshack told me that he didn't think I would be able to maintain it for that long and put down a finish time of 2:30 (putting me in C) when he updated my finish time. (and yes, had he put down 2:29 it would have been b) So it seems it can be a bit arbitrary too.... AND low and behold with some stops... I still was under the 2:30 when I finished

Wow! That does sound arbitrary!! If you had documented time, why would some guy second guess it?

That's crazy! In going to really need to push a 10K to get to the next corral.

I wondered that too... and honestly, it really aggravated me before the race. Friends and dh calmed me... the difference in the one corral was minutes to start. "it wouldn't make that much of a difference" However, it did. The first quarter mile was impossible to break free of the crowd of walkers. There were other tight spots too... but that initial couple miles while the faster broke free of the slower... that was a challenge and I think had I been in B, I would have seen a tad less of it. Was it horrible? No... I survived and had an excellent time... and would do it all over again.

However, I did learn that if you input your own time at registration, you might be a tad better off than if you send in an updated time by the cut off and even that is maybe more beneficial than if you bring a time to the expo.

The only reason I knew that my time had been "manually" adjusted was because when I found out my bib number and what corral that put me in, I contacted trackshack to see if they had actually updated my time with what I had sent in. I corresponded with the person who I originally sent in my time to and he was the one to tell me he put down a finish time of 2:30. I even made mention to him that using a standard race predicting calculator, my time would have suggested a finish of xx. That is when he wrote back and told me he didn't think I would be able to maintain it. I am not young... but not so old that I would think that would seriously impact it. (I am 43) The only thing I can think of is maybe they look at past rundisney events. My only event prior to the phm was the ToT 10miler. I had a run partner for that who was well below my pace...and I stayed with her. We finished that with a 16 1/2 to 17 minute pace.. Maybe that influenced the rep at trackshack?

I think it depends on your goal. If I was pushing for a serious time.. and expected to full out run... then where I was placed would have been rough. Luckily, I planned to not go "all out" but rather enjoy the race a bit. As it was though, some of the congestion was still a tad frustrating.

If you plan to get as many pictures as possible, you will be walking some and corral C would be a great fit since it would put you well in front of the sweepers..yet you would have the actual pace to run in between stops. (but wouldn't care so much if you walked some due to congestion)

But... yes, I am now of the opinion that getting an good time in early from a 10k is a wise thing. :goodvibes

I don't blame you for being miffed ... the only real info that guy had to judge your finish was the time you documented!

Question tho...you said input your own time at registration....can you put in what time you are doing yourself, or do you need to attach documentation from a certified race? I'm only seeing one local 10k before registration opens up...

Thanks!
Aimee

I wondered about the whole put in your own time and input the race you ran that time in. I heard someone say they do not even verify these...any truth to that? I don't think that is fair at all...

I took a look at the reigstration form for the Wine and Dine Marathon. It has a block where you enter your projected time. If you expect you can finish in less than 2:45, you are supposed to submit your results from a 10k or higher race....

so, for example, I could put in 2012 Lilac Fest 10k 1:14:00 as proof that I thought I could do the marathon at 2:36:41

It didn't have anywhere to attach any paper documentation...you just needed to put in your time from another race and ONLY if you thought you would finish better than 2:45:00

Yes, when you register there is a spot to put in your anticipated finish time. Like you saw on the W&D there is a spot then to put in the race that supports that time. I didn't know you needed to put the time from that race in that spot though... I just put the name of the race. :scratchin Now I am worried about my ToT registration.

I am not sure if Disney does or doesn't verify. I do know that I have come across people who have said they had heard people say they out and out lied to get into..say A. If they did that is by just entering in the wrong time or finding an "official" race that is not chipped and faking their time... I don't know. It isn't fair to anyone... including that person who is lying to themselves about their capabilities. However, I think all you can do is enjoy the race you yourself are running. Due to some personal issues... it took me some time to get to this point. I was very aggravated by the notion that someone could/would just lie and get into a better corral than I did when I had trained hard and busted my hump to get into what I did. Often, I think these same people who lie also don't consider how they will affect the flow of the race... and that was another frustration for me. However... in the end... I got to a better place and realized I can enjoy and run my race... and just not pay attention to those who suck and choose to lie. ;)

Yep...although, as I mentioned... now you have me wondering if I entered the race incorrectly on my ToT registration. I just put the name of the race without a finish time. Maybe I should send a message to trackshack... :rotfl: Na... I will certainly run another 10k before the fall and if my time is better I will update it then.

Thanks for the info on the watch. What I posted was a training half on my own with no people. This was in preparation of my real first practice half. Everything I do before Disney is just practice : ) I will be doing my first real practice half with people with lots of people in just 20 days. Yikes it is coming up fast and so are my nerves. I have these horrible fears of what if there are no port a potties, what if I am the only walker with short intervals of running.

Seriously, I know all about those fears! About the PoPs, there should be ones every couple of miles. They will also be available at the start of the race so, if you can, get there super early so you can go as often as you need to. Check the course map and drive the course beforehand. You may see some bathroom options that way as well. I just walked a half marathon last Sunday and our course had us going through two parks - both of which had real bathrooms, woo hoo!

One thing I've read about hydration is that it's most important to drink water the days leading up to a race. On race day, unless it's hot and/or humid, you can limit your water intake to a few sips beforehand [with your fuel] then drink along the course as needed. As always, practice your hydration on your long walks so you'll know what your body needs.

Also, about being a walker, again, I know all about these fears about being the only one. Yes, I do end up at the back of the pack...this time I finished fifth ..... from last. :lmao: But, if I keep a steady pace, I can pass others [runners, even!] who zip off ahead of me at the very beginning. And I will only improve.

One thing that also helped me was to look at last year's results for a race I've signed up for. That'll tell me how long it took for the slowest racers to finish. I'll also look for the number of participants in a current race. If there are several hundred or more, that's a good thing - it will mean a good range of abilities and paces. Just try to start at the very back so you'll be out of the way of the speedy ones.

As slow as I've finished, I have never encountered any volunteer or runner who has been anything less than wonderfully encouraging. They seem to be moreso with me because they know I've gone way out of my comfort zone. Now, if they'd save me a banana or two, I'd surely appreciate it!

I hope you have a wonderful time at your race. Jeff Galloway says that one of our goals for any race is to finish in a way that makes us want to do more races. And I hope this race will make you that much more excited for the PHM. You are so smart to do this race now - your nerves will be much calmer for the Princess.

I forgot to ask two questions about the watch. 1. Does it tell time like a real watch? 2. Any idea if it would work on a cruise ship?

1. Yes, it does. If you use it as a real watch, it stays charged up for several weeks/months.

2. I don't know. Wanna go on a research trip to find out? :goodvibes

I just might have to order this one too! Thanks for the info!

Yay - I really do like it and hope you do, too.

In theory no. But maybe.

There's speculation that signing up early might get you to a higher corral if you are on the time bubble between corrals. Say they need to fill 50 more slots in corral C and they are looking at all the folks with 2:45 time submissions. How would they choose?

The thought is first come first served.

But there's no proof this is the case. Just speculation.

I have a friend who has organized a lot of conferences and uses the first come/first served principle with her registrations. When she compared runDisney's way of doing things to a conference registration, it made sense that the early birds did get the worms. It was enough to convince me, from here on out, to register on day one for any of their races.

The portapotties are much more frequent than every couple of miles. Just wanted to clarify, because for someone scared of not finding a bathroom there's a big difference in thinking you have to hold it for a mile versus a couple hundred meters.

There's also the option when in the parks to use the real restrooms. Again, you'd skip the first one you come across because everyone will run to it. There are several accessible ones in both MK and Epcot.

Faster time gets you a better corral. I wish Disney had more corrals or a different system. I'm afraid of getting choked in my corral :/ I've never run a half slower than 2:10 and I'm capable of sub 1:55 hoping to sub 1:50 in the next 12 months.

You will be in "A"

Falling behind, but will be back after DD gets married this weekend.

Sounds like a lot of you are doing well and getting serious with your running/walking.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a tutu to run in? I'd like one that's fairly short so it won't be bouncing on my legs the whole race!

Are you looking for an actual tutu, or a running skirt? If you are either bit crafty you can easily make one. Tutus are especially easy. Lots of instructions on google. They are no sew as well!
