Well, today I ran my longest distance yet, close to 8K, but 2/3 of the way back my knee started to hurt like crazy! Google tells me it's called runner's knee. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what did you do to remedy it, and how do you find it now?

TIA!

Really depends on where the pain in. If the pain is in one part of the knee it could be one issue, if it's in another it could be another issues. Knees are tricky like that lol.

I have some trouble with one of my knees too. I find that I really need to stretch my quad really well almost everyday when its acting up (whether I've run or not that day.)

As the PP mentioned, knees are tricky. If you've got a persistent problem, definitely see a doctor!

Congrats on your 8k, by the way! :cool1:

YAY for your longest distance so far!!! That's great news!!
I haven't had any knee trouble thankfully (knock on wood) so I'm not sure what that could be, but my first guess would be maybe your running shoes need more cushioning on the bottom? I was fitted for new running shoes last week and learned that depending on your body's natural motion through each step, you need various amounts of support in your shoe, but if you have a "neutral" foot that doesn't wiggle around or pronate, and if you're going to be running on roads mainly, you don't need much extra support IN the shoe, just need lots of cushion on the sole of your shoe to make running easier on your joints. Maybe consider being fitted for new shoes?

I used to get knee pain running, but found that strengthening my quads really helped prevent it. Knees are so complex, that it could be anything though. Ice it and if it doesn't go away, see a doctor. Good luck!!

 WOW that's soon! Thank goodness for credit cards! I was sort of expecting to be able to book my whole trip around the same time that registration opened up, but I guess in retrospect that was silly of me!

That also doesn't leave a whole lot of training time for those of us who haven't yet done a qualifying time race and wanted to submit one with registration...

I just registered for the tower of terror. I suppose I could use the same race that I used to register for that.,. But, yeah... June is right around the corner

Good gracious that's early. Happy my half marathon is on June 9 or else I'd have no times to put in!

Question for all of you Princesses who have run the PHM before: how do I know if I'm going to be ready when the registration is in June? I plan on only having 5Ks under my belt at that time. I know I will still have 7 months to train after registration, but June is right around the corner it seems and I've only just begun. Do I just take a giant leap of faith and register? :scared1: Looking for a little knowledge and encouragement from you awesome ladies! Thanks!

You can wait a bit to register- you dont have to pull the trigger in June. Worse case, you DO pull the trigger in June and you really can't get it together to run- you can defer to another race within a calendar year. So that would be a possible option. PHM doesn't sell out right away like Tink and DL half does. So you would have months to work up a little and decide if you are ready.

Galloways training starts in September I think to give you an idea. 2-3 miles by September and you should be able to follow his plan to complete PHM in Feb. HTH!

I'm right there with you! Just really starting to get on board with getting healthy and running!

You can submit a time until right before the race! I think I'm going to try and submit a better time over the course of the year.

Me too! I won't have a time until the end of July, a 10 miler! But want to register as soon as I can!
