Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

I don't remember off the top of my head, but it wasn't too hard to figure out if you are at a computer (currently on my phone or I'd look for you...)
But I googled "2012 princess half marathon corral times" to get an idea of what the time requirements were for each corral.

Then, I searched "race pace calculator" or "half marathon estimated finish time" or something similar to get a calculator similar to what Disney uses to determine my estimated half finish based on a 10k time. Someone around here probably knows the exact converter Disney uses...

If I recall correctly, a 10k time of around 57 minutes put me right on the line between A and B.

Hope this helps!

Wow great time.... I am aiming for around 1hr 10!!!! As long as I am not in the last corral I will be happy! Thanks for the info

I haven't had PF, thankfully, but do have a somewhat regular habit in my yoga class to use a tennis ball to roll the bottom of my foot.Follow this by then placing your foot on the ball and pressing down and holding--first heel, then arch, then balls of feet, then toes. Apply as much pressure to feel something without being overly painful. Takes about 3-5 minutes per foot.

Hope you find the needed relief.

Maura

Thanks so much everyone! I knew I would find both help and compassion here. I am just so very frustrated. I plan to begin some cross training soon to try to keep up - but would all of you say I should consider myself OUT of the GSC for February? My DD16 will be sooo dissapointed...I am beside myself...

I don't think there is a way of knowing how fast you will get better. I wouldn't give up just yet! I biked for cross training when I had PF and it helped a lot!

I had self-diagnosed PF when I too let my running shoes wear out too much before replacing them. It was terrible but only lasted a month or so. I bought an arch support band and wore that all the time. I never went barefoot or in sandals - I always wore supportive sneakers, even around the house. I would freeze a bottle of water and roll that under my foot.

Another thing - I have to dress in business casual attire for work, which meant lots of cute heels. However, I switched to a supportive pair of flats for work and that also helped a lot.

Subscribing to this thread! I'm signed up for the 10K and started planning. It's my first Disney race. The only other run i've done is the Color Run, so I have no idea what I'm getting myself into! lol

I wouldn't say you are out by any means, but I would suggest a trip to a specialist if the pain is super unbearable. Mine explained to me that it was possible for the facia to become so inflamed that serious tears could happen and that would take me out of training...thankfully he didn't find any for me, so I continued to run and stretch, and stretch some more! I still have it in one foot and I continue to run...it's weird but it only hurts me when I'm NOT running...I don't normally feel pain during the run. I don't think it would hurt for you to be cautious and have it checked out further to make sure you're ok to train.

Thanks for the bit of hope Cripey! Have you or ANYONE heard of or has success with treating PF using the barefoot method? I have been doing some research and it seems to make sense, but i don't want to do more harm either - UGH - all I want to do is get back to training PAIN FREE!! Is that too much to want???

I had success with minimal drop shoes (4mm drop) and PF...BUT...then my achilles started giving me trouble, so it seems like a neverending battle for me with injuries.

CAVEAT: I know nothing about PF. But I'm a firm believer that different shoes work for different people based on a whole lot of things that have little to do with running. All of my parts are happiest in minimal, but not zero-, drop shoes. 3-4mm is my happy range and if I divert from that, I immediately start having issues. But I'm also a dancer and live in flat shoes; my regular, non-running mechanics have had 40+ years to adapt to low-heeled living. Throwing a higher heel in the mix messes me up.

So, much as I love the new range of minimal drop shoes, I don't think they're a cure-all. If you were mostly barefoot, or close to it, in regular life and threw in higher-heeled running shoes, it's possible that a lower drop shoe might work for you, though. If you haven't already, Google up Sock Doc - I don't subscribe to all of his theories, but have found some really valuable info and ideas that helped me through a couple injuries.

Well, my PF seemed to develop when I decided to try to transition to a new shoe (my favorite shoe made some changes that year and I hated them!)...the one I tried to wear wasn't exactly a minimal shoe, but much closer to minimal than what I was used wearing...wasn't a good idea for me...that was when all my problems started...PF, back issues...just not good. I stayed in them longer than I should have. I know they are wonderful for others though, just isn't something that works for me, so it's hard to say if it would work for you. Thankfully, my beloved shoe took all the complaints to heart that year and the latest edition is AWESOME, so I'm back in a shoe that I love. Your best bet may be to see a specialist for the PF...bonus if you can get one that is a runner or specializes in sports injuries with emphasis on getting you back to normal in training as quickly (and safely) as possible, get their opinion and then take those opinions/ideas to a reputable running store and get fitted in a new pair of shoes. Make sure you go to one that will allow you to return a pair even if they've been worn...most of them will...and just start a trial and error. Better to get on this now while there's still plenty of time before the race so that you will hopefully find the right pair for you and can do the bulk of your training in them.

hey gang- just wanted to let you all know that if you are thinking about booking a massage after the race they are "actively booking" that week right now. I was going to wait a bit and book later on but decided to call today. I was told they have been booking for Princess for quite awhile....

Since I'm doing GSC I'm doing the 25 minute Reflexology at the Dolphin after the 10k and a 50 minute swedish after the Princess at The Contemporary. Since I'm staying there I thought it would just be so nice to stay right there and get a massage....

Anyone else have the reflexology at the Dolphin??

I recently started having PF problems and luckily it's not very painful (at least yet). I started wearing Superfeet Insoles in my steel toes at work and it gives me more support throughout the work day which is nice. I subscribe to a monthly subscription box called Stride Box that sends fun running related things once a month. A few months back they included a little nubbed ball called "Foot Rubz". It can be used on any part of the body despite the name and is almost like a ball form of a foam roller. I roll my feet over it in the morning and at night and it really helps. I think it's only like $5 on amazon too which is awesome.

Where can you get a massage at CR? I'm staying at BLT, and was planning to head to GF, but somehow I never knew about the availability of massages at Cr. maybe because I am usually only in BLT or the monorail area.

I signed up for a massage at the Dolphin for after the Princess. Reflexology sounds great - maybe I'll add that:)

Thank you so much for this info! Just booked my massage for after the 10k. I actually find I have a much better run after I get a massage so hopefully this will play nicely into my Saturday rest prep plans. Of course, massages after a run are also lovely too, so hmmm.... :)

I haven't done the reflexology at the dolphin but I've had other things there and I love the mandara spa there. Enjoy!

It isnt a "full on" spa but a fitness facility with a room for massages/facials. I've heard good things about it. It's cheaper then GF, but I'm really looking for a no frills massage to just work out the kinks and there is something about just hobbling over to the fitness room right down the way from my room!

Google "contemporary resort massage" and there will be a link.

I switched to New Balance MT 10 trail shoes to help with my PF. They forced me to walk on the balls of my feet. They are a minimus shoe. I love them and have helped so much.
Don't count yourself out yet but get thyself to a DR sooner, rather than later. You need to get on top of this asap.
Not sure where you are in CT, but I know a good Podiatrist in Plainfield and his father is in Pawcatuck.

Reading this tread and reading trip reports from the last Princess Half marathon just got me so motivated that I have finally started taking my training more seriously. And I'm very happy about that.

I have started a blog to help keep me motivated and you're are welcome to follow me if you want to. I'm writing it in English since I haven't got any Danish Training buddies :goodvibes

You can follow me here:

I've just started the blog so no pictures yet, but there will be.
