Calling all Hampton Roads, VA residents! **UPDATED 3/27/04 on page 7**

William and Mary is only $600 per class??? You are kidding me. VCU in Richmond is over $1000 per class now.

:earseek: :earseek: I definitely won't be going to VCU!! What is VCU? LOL!

Virginia Commonwealth University. It used to be a great value and you could get a full tiem courseload for around $2000. HA not anymore. They had budget cuts last year and raised tuition 3 times! Unfortunately, it's the only place my program is offered in the state so I am stuck here.

Oh, thanks! The "C" threw me. What program are you in? $1,000 a class is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my reach! What is it? School for those with executive salaries? :earseek:

my program is Rehabilitation Counseling. I just got my Master's in Dec woohoo :Pinkbounc :bounce: .

I need additional counseling classes since I am going for my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). I may look into William and Mary now. I didn't realize they were so cheap. They are also an EXCELLENT school.

Congratulations, Pooh Girl!!!

It's great to hear that William & Mary is an excellent school also! :) Good luck with your additional classes!!

Are you guys cold enough today? I see on the computer that Hampton Roads is at 21 degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...it's even chilly here in S. FL. But I've got my slider open with the floor fan bringing it in! :teeth: Stay warm!!

Snow! I miss seeing snow, but not driving in it. DS wanted to see snow when we were there. He's never seen any since we're in FL...LOL! We were there a couple weeks too early I guess.

Oh! Yesterday I visited my former boss at the hospital here. Took all my vacation pictures because she wanted to see them. :) She told me that yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears ago (with her first husband in the Navy,) she had lived in Norfolk and LOVED everything about it. She told me to go there...LOL! And she says there are plenty of hospitals around. I worked with her at the hospital for 8 years. Never had a job that long...LOL! Hospitals are a possibility. But I'd like to get back to the defense/gov't. thing even more. Hmmm... I want to go!!!! :)

Is anyone interested in buying a home in South Florida? I know of a nice 2 bedroom/2 bath for sale!!! :teeth:

Interestingly, I was looking at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel I believe it is in Newport News...their website.

Mt Carmel is a very good school. I used to live right down the street. It is in an old neighborhood developed in the 40's.

Thanks, Sleepy! An old neighborhood for sure. Is it a good neighborhood? Especially being a single mom with a DS. Have to check for "good" neighborhoods. Hmmm...hopefully, a realtor will steer me in the right direction.

I saw that guy today that I mentioned to you before. The one that moved to VA and moved right back to FL. The area you are looking to move to is where he was at! He couldn't seem to understand why you would want to move there.

It sounds to me like it would be a good place even if it was just for the change of scenery. FL is so flat and boring and not scenic at all (except for the beautiful blue waters of the Keys and the rolling hills around Ocala). Maybe I'll go with you:D

Sounds great, Legs! You can come with us! Different people like different areas. I love Hampton Roads much more than Northern VA. I lived in Northern VA no more than a couple weeks, if that! I visited my former boss at the hospital yesterday. She was asking me what's different about going up now as opposed to the last time I went. What makes me think I won't come running back here.

Number one...I DON'T HAVE A JOB TO COME RUNNING BACK TO! LOL! I did last time. She agreed with that!

Number two...A younger population! :teeth: Important when you will consider remarrying! Tired of the senior population of FL! LOL!

Number three...Everyone I came across was friendly, polite, and even helpful! Unlike where I live where they bump into you without saying "excuse me." Which, by the way, some woman did to me in the food store with her cart the other day! And when I stared her down (not nice, I know) she didn't even look at me. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Number four...Better paying jobs! Not only that...they have PENSION PLANS at the companies there. From my experience in FL, there are only 401K's. Not pension plans. At least not at the companies I've worked for the past 15 years.

Number five...I would be close to the gorgeous beach, can be in Virginia Beach in the blink of an eye, and can visit the mountains (which I REALLY miss) west of Richmond!! :) :Pinkbounc Florida beaches are nice, but I don't get there often enough. And I MISS the mountains!!!

Number six...I would be a 4 to 5 hour drive from my sister in Northern VA. Much better than having to hop on a plane or train from FL.

Number seven...Possibly take classes at the College of William and Mary! For some reason, that school has appealed to me since I was a kid. And I've never even been there. After talking to my former boss yesterday, I hear it's beautiful! Her daughter seriously considered going there but ended up going in Gainesville.

Number eight...I would REALLY like to work for a company that does government work/contracting. I find it soooooooooooo interesting!!

Number nine...A change in seasons. I still can't figure out what month it is without looking at a calendar in FL because most months are HOT! LOL! Spring, Summer, Fall, and the dreaded Winter sound lovely. :)

Number ten...I REALLY love Williamsburg also and would love being so close and able to go often. After all, when I was there a couple weeks ago, I bought Annual Passes for me and Richard!!! I need to go back! :teeth:

Number eleven...A private parochial school is about 1/2 what I pay for son's equivalent school in FL! And the fees are less! Registration/Reregistration fees at the school I looked into were $50-$75. At Richard's school...$250!!! That's right...Two HUNDRED fifty dollars. Don't forget books, uniforms, donations, fund raisers, etc. Can't afford to send him next year at almost $5,000 a year! :earseek:

Number twelve...Fifteen years in FL is long enough. I'm overdue for a change!

Number thirteen...Just looking at all the gorgeous military guys walking around! :) :faint: Some must be eligible bachelors. :faint: :faint:

Are those 13 reasons good enough to start a list? I can come up with others. :teeth: Talking with my former boss yesterday, she told me that her first husband was in the Navy. They lived in Norfolk and she LOVED it! The pace, the lifestyle, etc. She told me to live there. LOL! I want to go, I want to go. :) Geezzz...have to sell the FL villa first.

Why thank you! I'm pretty excited too!

Those are all good reasons to move :D Just be warned that the people who work the closest to the beach tend to be a bit surly. We go to Va Beach all the time and they can just be ugly. I told my DH if I worked next to the ocean, I'd be happy all the time

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...wonder why people who work near the beach are surly. Hmmmmmmmmm...I would think it would put me in a good mood also. Actually, Northrop Grumman in Newport News would be my first choice. I'd LOVE to work in that company! :teeth:

http://www.nn.northropgrumman.com/index.asp

NG has openings in Melbourne too. Only problem is I'm not qualfied for any of them.:(

That's the trick...keep checking their website for anything that pops up. Actually, last week they had something that would have been good except for one part of the description. :(

Pin wizard do you have MSN. They posted a poll today and one of the lest (is that a word) stressful places to live was Va Beach NewPort News area. Another reason to make you move!!

I choose not to go to college in that area because there would be no way I could get all my studies done close to the beach. Instead I choose a tiny school on WVA. (Big adjustment) Anyway I had the hardest time sleeping for the first few weeks. Finally my roomie another NOVA girl and I figured it out. We were so use to the hum of the beltway it was just too quiet for us. However when I visit Va Beach the sound of the ocean is much better then anyway beltway!! Smells better too.

I can't remember who asked about what year my siblings went to Kempsville. My oldest brother went his Freshman year in 1975. I graduated from H.S. in 1990. See the big gap! My youngest brother actually married a Kemp. grad. The met at College and she graduated in 1983. Small world sometimes when your parents are in the Navy.

Pin Wizard my dad actaully does consultanting for N.Grumann. I have no idea what he does he is suppose to be retired. but they are taking him to the Bahama's next week so I guess they have a lot of perks.

Rats! I couldn't find that poll anywhere. I was probably too late for it any way. Oh...I could study with the beach nearby. LOL! Not a problem. VA Beach and NPN less stressful! All right!!!! It definitely pushes me there!!

They're taking your dad to the Bahamas? NICE! He must do something they really need and appreciate. :) Crossing my fingers that something I can do opens up at the right time! :)
