Good Saturday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

Kevin's Grandma is in the hospital not doing well at all :guilty: . We are going to visit her this morning for a little while, and we are wondering if this will be our last visit with her. If you will all keep her in your prayers for a peaceful and quick passing, I would appreciate it. She has been in a nursing home for about 4 years now, and her health has been going down hill rapidly. I think she is ready to go to heaven and visit Kevin's Grandpa  .

Have a good day today!!!

Good Sunday morning everyone!!!

Where is everyone??? :sad1:

Good Monday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

I have an electrician coming this morning to fix our breaker box because we found out that our main breaker has melted due to it not being able to handle all the electricity going through it. It's kinda scary because it could have caused a fire :scared1: So all weekend we've been not turning on lights, we turned off the hot tub and the pool, and it must have worked because nothing has happened  - Thank God!!!!

Have a good day today!!!

Good Tuesday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

I talked to a local Broker yesterday and set up an interview on Friday :cheer2: . It's weird....I haven't been on an interview in forever - I'm a little nervous. I realized I have absolutly nothing to wear to an interview  , so the girls and I are going to the mall today to find me a business suit :teeth:

I'm feeling very lonely :guilty: - where is everyone???? :confused3

Have a good day today!!

Hi slo!! Sorry you were feeling lonely! I couldn't get to my computer for a couple of days - James bought himself a 6 man tent and when we set it up inside (it's too hot outside) it took up the entire living room & I couldn't get to the computer!! How is Kevin's grandma? Was the electrician able to fix everything?

That's okay - I just miss everyone!!!
*My girls like to set up a tent in the house too ::yes:: It's not a 6 man tent, but they still have fun in it. Why did he set it up? Was he having a sleepover?
*Kevin's Grandma is doing the same :guilty: Thank you for asking. She said she wants to go home, which is sad, because she is referring to her house, not the nursing home :sad2: . The house has been gone for over 4 years now.
*The electrician was able to fix everything - thank God!!!! Now we can rest more easy ::yes::

Good Wednesday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

Hello everyone!

slo - Sorry you've been so lonely around here!

We went away for the weekend, from Thursday through Sunday. We went over to Gatlinburg (TN) and had a fantastic time. Aside from WDW it's the best family vacation that we've had in years, even if it was only for four days. DD went too!!

I got bad news from my OB/GYN yesterday. The second Pap Test that I had came back as abnormal cells again Now I have to return on Aug. 22nd to have another test done where they take a biopsy to see what exactly is going on. I'm pretty nervous . The nurse told me not to be nurse, but what else is she suppossed to say. There's no controlling the nervousness

I know that you can't help but be nervous in a situtation like this. The waiting is so hard! I will be thinking about you and definitely will be keeping you in my prayers! :grouphug:

So sorry to hear this! Even though she's older and probably ready to go on to Heaven it's still hard on the family! How is Kevin doing through this??

Andrew had freshman orientation today and he said he "thinks" he'll like high school. I was nice and didn't tell him that he better like it 'cause he has no choice! :lmao: Tomorrow is the first regular school day for all three of the boys!

Hope everyone has a nice afternoon. Sorry you've felt lonely and abandoned slo!

Good Thursday morning everyone!! :surfweb:

After work today I have to register to Stephanie for school :teacher: . It's hard to believe that she has to go back to school already :guilty: It's seems like yesterday that she just finished summer school. The good thing about her starting school is that it means we are that much closer to vacation :cool1:

Hi there Kathy!!!! :wave2:
We went away for the weekend, from Thursday through Sunday. We went over to Gatlinburg (TN) and had a fantastic time. Aside from WDW it's the best family vacation that we've had in years, even if it was only for four days. DD went too!!
I'm glad you had a fantastic trip!!! :cool1: Kevin and I haven't been to Gatlinburg since we were kids, and we would like to return. Is the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum still there?
I know that you can't help but be nervous in a situtation like this. The waiting is so hard! I will be thinking about you and definitely will be keeping you in my prayers! :grouphug:
Thank you!!
It is hard not only to find out, but to make plans.
We want to go to WDW in January for an adults only trip to watch Kevin's best friend run the marathon. I told Kevin not to make any reservations until we see what this test shows. I told him that if I have cancer, I'm probably not going to be up to going. I hate to think the worse, but I have to face the reality of what this test could show.
So sorry to hear this! Even though she's older and probably ready to go on to Heaven it's still hard on the family! How is Kevin doing through this??
He's doing well. He's hoping she will pass sometime soon because he doesn't like seeing her this way. You can definitly tell she is ready to go to heaven.
You're so lucky you caught this before anything happened!! Someone was looking out for you!!!!
That is so true!!! ::yes::
The weird thing is, on Sunday morning, Kevin was called to a garage fire. He comes home and says, "It was an electrical problem that started the fire." That made us even more nervous.
Best of luck to you! I know you'll do great!! :cheer2:
Thanks :goodvibes
I'm a little nervous.
Andrew had freshman orientation today and he said he "thinks" he'll like high school.
That's good, I hope he does :wizard:
It will be a big adjustment at first, but he will like it ::yes::
Sorry you've felt lonely and abandoned slo!
That's okay, I just miss everyone when they are gone :guilty:

Well, I gotta run - have a good day everyone!!!

Good morning!

We are up to our eyeballs in football and cherrleading! James will actually practice 6 days this week! Emily is cheering at the park & was asked to do 2 squads at the gym. We will have to wait & see how this goes! School comes first!
We move Sarah into the dorm on Sunday. I am soooo not ready for this!

slo - Good luck withyour interview tomorrow!! Were ya'll able to find a suit at the mall??

James & Emily go back to school Tuesday! I don't think I'm ready for that, either!

I'm late to the game here, but wanted to add that you're interviewing the broker. It's not the broker interviewing you.

Brokers are a dime a dozen and they'll take anyone with a license who is breathing, in most cases. You need to look at this as you finding the best fit for you.

I would ask:

1) What are your annual fees?
2) What are your monthly fees?
3) What is your commission split?
4) If there is a split, at what point do you go 100%?
5) Is E+O insurance paid by the transaction, or is it paid once a year w/dues?
6) How much is the E+O?
7) Is there office space?
8) How much is it?
9) What software do you provide?
10) Do you provide a company website? (Some offices like Keller Williams do.)
11) Is the broker always receptive to answering questions, even by cell?
12) If this agency isn't the best fit for me, are my listing released to me?
13) Is there floor time?
14) Is there a weekly caravan of new listings?
15) How are incoming office leads assigned?

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but as you can see, it's more you asking the questions, than them asking. You have to realize that you're making them the money, not the other way around. They need you.

They might want to know your background and why you think you'd make a good agent, but other than that, there's probably a 125% chance that they're going to hire you, even if you go in chewing gum and cursing.

Of course, go in with a great attitude as usual, but don't be scared. You're in control of the interview.

ETA: If you need someone to talk to over the phone, feel free to PM me for my number!

Hi everyone! Just a quick post here.

I had a very rough day today and would like to ask you all to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers over the next few months....

We have to go through some court stuff because our DS, the one with Down Syndrome, is turning 18 in December. We have to petition the court to allow us to be his guardians once he turns 18. (Imagine having to ask to take care of your own son.)

I went yesterday to file the petition, step 1.

Today we were served with legal papers, step 2. Hard enough to have to be served those kind of papers and reading it all but also very hard considering DH's job - being served by another deputy and feeling like everyone knows your business.

The court has already appointed a guardian ad litem to protect DS's interest.

The first legal proceeding is to have him declared incompetent. It is so hard to see that on paper. I mean, we know it, we don't try to deny it, but it's still hard to have to have the court system declare it!

Then the next proceeding will be to ask the court to allow us to be his guardians. Everyone we've talked to says it's no big deal (DH has even talked to a judge about it) but he is our son and it's very nerve-wracking to think that if anything were to go wrong they could appoint someone else.

Thanks for letting me share and for being here!

eeyore - this must be a very taxing time for you guys! I can imagine that would be hard for your DH - feeling like he has to explain to other people! Hang in there!

slo - good luck with your interview!

Happy Friday everyone!!

Good Friday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

I have some exciting news on my end. While we were eating dinner my teacher called me and asked if I would like to interview with her after class (she manages the office that the school is affliated with. It's the largest broker in our area). I was so flattered because she mentioned in coversation to me before about working at her office, and I was thrilled that she asked to talk to me :goodvibes . I really like her as an instructor and a person, and she is someone I would enjoy working with::yes::. So I stayed after class and went to her office and she gave me an 1 1/2 hour presentation and why it would be wonderful to work for their company and in her office. She gave me every reason why I should go there, and then in the end she said, "Plus......I really like you. You have a wonderful way about you, and I know you will do very well in this business." :teeth: I didn't feel like she was giving me a line, I really felt she was very sincere::yes::.

Here's the problem with this of which I need all your opinion on:
My estranged Aunt works with this company :guilty: and is extemely successful in this company. She is the sister of my estranged father. I talked to my teacher about this earlier in the summer, and she told me, "You can come work in my office. She doesn't come in here that often, and she's not my favorite agent anyway" (this was the first time she mentioned about me working with her). My teacher also told me that in this business I am going to run into her, even if I don't work for that company - which is true  . My entire family tells me not to worry about it :sad2: , but I can't help it. Running into her would be so awkward. But I don't even know if she knows my married name, or know's what I look like :confused3 . I told Kevin that if my estranged father were dead, I wouldn't care, but since he is alive, I don't want him thinking he can come back into my life through his sister :sad2: . Stephanie doesn't know he exists, and I would like to keep it that way. What would you do? Would you say, "I'm going for it, I don't care if she's there." Or would you say, "Maybe I should work for a different company, and avoid as many run-ins as possible."

Please give me your in-put on this, I would really like to hear it - thanks!!! :)

Today is my interview with a much smaller company, and I am so much more relaxed after going on my interview last night ::yes::. Now I have something to compare this company against, when I'm thinking who the state should send my license to. I told Kevin that this guy today is going to have to really work hard to do better than my teacher last night. My teacher did ask if I was talking with anyone else, and I told her I was going where I was going today, and she said that she knows him, and likes him, but he doesn't have the web access like Company #1. So, we'll see what happens today.

Idroveallnight - I'm exhausted just reading your post :faint: Good luck with everything you and your family have going on :wizard:
*Thank for the good luck, and yes I did find a suit. But when I brought it home I didn't like it, so I bought something else, and now I have to return the first item
*Good luck to James and Emily when they go back to school on Tuesday :teacher: Steph starts on Tuesday, August 22.

Am I there Yet - Thanks for all your input :) I'm going to PM you sometime this weekend with some details covered in the interviews, so you can give me your input. Please look for this - Thanks!!! :goodvibes

Kathy - So many hugs to you my friend  You and your wonderful parents and the court will have no problem appointing you as his guardian. I'm sorry you have to go through all this :guilty: Whenever you need to talk, please always know you can do that here. You are family here, and family's stick together!!!! :grouphug:
*Thank you so much for Steph's postcard - she loved it!!! It was so nice for you to send that to her!! :thanks:

DisneyDmbNut - Hi there, and good to see you!!! Great picture of your DH, and I had to laugh when you said he's excited to get it dirty :lmao: - my DH is the same way ::yes::

Well, I gotta run and get ready for interview #2 - have a good day today!!!

The broker is correct; you are unfortunately going to have to work with people in this industry that are, 1) idiots, 2) brand-spanking new, 3) older than dirt and very old school and hard-headed, 4) people that you've been involved in a deal with that's gone bad, that are going to be hard to work with the second time around, etc.

This industry has an incredibly high drop-out rate. Those who have made it, have done so usually by losing a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It's very competitive and you really have to look out for number one.

With that said, there are agents - one who lives in my own neighborhood - that I avoid like the plague. I DREAD the day when I have to co-op with her, or anyone from her office. My buyer spoke to her seller and caused a huge stink for her and she took it out on me. I took it to a certain extent, only to smooth things over and after about the fifth phone call of the same old crap, I let her have it. By the way, my street is on the main entrance of my subdivision, so I see her all the time. It's very uncomfortable.

Just remember that we have a code of ethics that we must obey, and those state that we can't disparage another agent. Hold your head up high and be polite and business-like to her if you see her. You never know when she's going to be the deal that will send your family to WDW next. :teeth:

Happy Saturday everyone! I have to work until 2 pm and then we leave to take Sarah! I keep hoping if I just stay in my pj's and let her oversleep then I won't have to take her! But, then I guess I would be unemployed and driving her to school late!

slo - Don't let your aunt keep you from choosing a job that will be best for your family. If she is rarely there, then your contact will be limited and then you just stay professional when you do see her. It will be hard, but if this is the right place for you it will work out!

Good Saturday morning everyone!!

I went on my second interview this yesterday, and the broker gave me a very convincing spiel on why I should work for him, but I don't think I'm going to :sad2: This place is much much smaller, and literally has no web access. Broker #1's place is #1 in NW Indiana, and their web access is phenomenal. New customers would be so impressed with this place, just by going to their website. Plus, I have a chance for advancement at last nights place with possibly managing a branch (once I get my brokers license) or possibly teaching a class (also after getting my brokers license) Broker #2 has no room for advancement at all. It is alot more expensive for me to work for Broker #1, but all the money is going towards things that will help my career.

I'm going to give this more thought over the weekend, but my mind is pretty made up. ::yes::

Thanks for all your input on this. She deals with the very high-end clients, so if I have a deal with her, it will be my next trip to WDW :teeth:

This is what my mom says too::yes::. I've spent my whole adult life trying to avoid this family, and now I'm going to be meeting her head one - it weird!!!
**Have a good day taking Sarah back to school. Does she have the roommate that everyone likes again? That would be very nice if she did.

Well, I gotta run - have a good day today everyone!!!

slo - this is Sarah's first trip to college! She and her roomate met early and spent time together before college. We like her, she is kind of high strung, but Sarah likes her alot! I can't believe my baby is leaving! Ugh!!! She told me the other day that she had never been away from me for more than 6 days! What are we gonna do??????????????? :confused3 :confused3

Good Sunday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

I really wanted to sleep in longer today, but Katie didn't agree with that :sad2: At 7:15am she was up, but on the days were I don't want to sleep in, she wakes up at 8:30am - go figure!!! :confused3

Today my in-laws are coming over to swim. The girls are really excited :cool1:
