when we bought it was with the intention of going every 2 years. bought just enough points to do that. took a trip last summer for one week....i am limited as a school teacher to summers and distance makes quick trips difficult. no real discounted airfare within 100 miles of here. however, i am now waitlisted to add a few more points which should allow us to do a bit more than every two years, perhaps a long weekend at HH or save for a big trip and grand villa. i do plan to retire there and drive a boat or train or something. dd started in the cp at the beginning of the month, and there i sat in my parka in 70 degree weather after dropping her and her car off, being told by a cm that they love to hire teachers and nobody ever retires from wdw. made it really tough to get on the plane and come home. btw, we do have another trip scheduled for this july...after all, dd's working there. i do hope to eventually go frequently enough to take advantage of the ap discount. as it is now, the passes are the big expenses, and when you don't go all the time, the parks are a must.
i was talking with my guide a couple weeks ago and asked her how people in the area use their points...just out of curiosity. she gave a few examples. one guy who works there has 800 points. 800! he has his grandkids down all the time and they stay there. another woman used points for a grand villa for her daughter's birthday sleepover. no mess to clean up and it's disneyworld....i guess you learn to be creative. my guide owns a bunch of points and her family does reunion type get-a-ways every two years and have stayed in all the resorts.
i used to think that every other year would be enough, but i gotta tell you, it's just easier and easier to dream about long weekends at okw or breakfast overlooking the lake at bw, or teeing off at sun up on eagle pines or ospry ridge, leaving a park because it's too crowded and after all, we'll be back next month......
i gotta get back to work. haven't retired yet.
