Calling all Chicago DISers #3

KimRaye..it's very difficult to see how MS affects people...I have two friends who have it, and also a cousin. I am glad you got to share some special moments with the BD ladies!
Thanks Donna! It was really special, and yet for me, bittersweet, as an after-thought. Not sure we'll see her again, alive. :sad1:

Many {{HUGS}} for you too Donna, and Mark! What a year for you! :sad1:

Kim

Have you all heard the weather for this weekend?
It's going to be in the high 60's or low 70's
I'm convinced that I'm never going to get in my pool this summer :guilty:

Last night I went to my mom and dad's house to meet their new puppy :dog: . My mom was so indifferent about getting a puppy due to my dad's progressing Alzheimers, and because she is still so devostated about her other dog passing away on Christmas Day 6 months ago. This dog is from the same blood line as the dog that passed away, so she decided to take advantage of this litter, and pick out a puppy (the breeder let her be the first to pick, since she got a previous dog from her). This little puppy was so adorable, and just melts your heart - she is a Beagle and her name is Penny. My dad seems really happy with the dog, which is good, because the dog will help him feel better. I get to puppysit her next Thursday (my dad can't be left alone with her, he wouldn't know what to do with her) at my house, and that'll be fun - she's so cute!!!! :dog:

DG - I"m glad you enjoyed HP, and I"m glad your sister is starting to feel better :)

piglet - Joe's Crab Shack also has good prices :thumbsup2

ID - Did you end up going out to dinner last night?

momto1 - Good luck to your DH with his garage sale :wizard:
I could never put a garage sale together this fast - it would really stress me out!!!!:upsidedow

Bunchkin - Have a great time, and I hope Hunter has a great birthday dinner at the restaurant he picked :)

Donna - Continued hugs to you and Mark with this rough year
**Sophie did do well with storms, but she did HORRIBLE with the fireworks. So now I'm worried that when we have a big storm, she may freak out, like the fireworks:eek: Next July I'm going to get something from the vet to help her relax - that's how upset she was on July 4th.

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, it's time for me to get to work early.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Slo--there's just nothing like a puppy! they just melt you and make you go all maternal (or is it "parental"?). Any way, please update often on this one. I love dogs.

ID--Happy Birthday, a day late.

piglet--let me second Joe's Crab Shack. The closest we get "down south" to good seafood, but it really is okay. :)

Slo, I'm thinking we may have to travel north this weekend JUST to take advantage of the Chi weather. 60's and 70's! It was like that here yesterday but is back in the 80's today. It's really funny as we joined the local pool this summer and it's actually been tough to find good swimming days since it's rained so much and been unseasonably cool. Oh, we've had hot days, but not as many as we would have liked for swimming.

Has anyone been to the Art Institute since the new wing opened. We happened to be in town and spent about 15 minutes there, but we missed seeing most of it. Can't wait to get back.

Gotta get ready for work. Later! to all.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3:

Slo ~ I hear ya on the pool thing. It's such a bummer that we've not had as hot of a summer as usual. Also, when it is hot and I wish I could be in my pool, I'm at work. :sad2: YAY for new puppies! I love dogs. They make me smile:goodvibes

Everyone else :wave2: have a wonderful day!

Took - my parents live in Decatur and I went to middle school and high school there! The weather up in Chicago (where me and my husband live) is pretty nice right now and looks like it will be good this weekend as well!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a BIG thank you for all the advice you guys gave me for our trip to Chicago. We had a great time! It took us a few days to figure out the bus system, but we were able to go to some really great places thanks to the recommendations I received here!

Thanks again!

Momto1: Have a great time at the Sox game on Friday. Umm...I heard it's "mullet night". so is everyone going with the Billy Ray hairstyle?? ! :confused3

Oh, my...I hadn't heard that! Definitely no mullets for this family!

Lori

Hi guys! Well, no dinner out last night. Decided to wait for the weekend. DH cooked though, London broil, biscuits and green beans. It was yummy, especially since I didn't have to cook it or clean up after it. :rotfl:

I've returned to the work force! :goodvibes Tonight was my first night of teaching Irish dance class at a local dance sudio. Two classes, 12 kids between the two. I was a bit nervous at first, it's been two years since I taught a class, but it all came back to me very quickly. My DD7 was taking Hip Hop at this studio and before the end of her class her teacher gave me a packet of info inviting her to audition for their dance company, they have a jazz and a hip hop team in her age bracket. Auditions are next week and I haven't decided what to do yet. Not sure if we want to head down that road but DD7 is begging so we'll see. Anyone have experience? I've done competitive Irish dance but not regular dance, if it's anything like Irish it means a lot of $$$ and a lot of time.

momto1 - aww come on, you'd all look great in mullets!! ;) Have fun at the game!!

FLAngie - so glad you had a great time in Chicago!!

slo - I agree 60s and 70s is a bit cool but I'll take that over 90+ anyday!
*Aren't puppies so cute!! DH really wants a beagle, our Jack Russell is almost 14yrs and NOT dog friendly so he's going to have to wait. I hope he brings great happiness to your parents.

Donna - glad to "see" you around, I hope the rest of 2009 is better for your family.

:wave2: to everyone else!! Haven't heard from paint or esbrick in a while, hope all is well with you guys!

Have to get the kiddos into bed, only one more day until the weekend!! Have a great one everybody! :flower3:

Geffric...I'm jealous of all the DIS meets (at WDW, no less!) you all have planned! I can't wait to hear all about them. And, yep, no dieting is allowed during vacation! (okay, Mac??)

Donna

just ask geffric what type of diet food we had last friday...........

it's always good to see you here Donna.

don't feel like you have to post daily or weekly.

we all are homies in the box here. no one is ever forgotten ...
i think about all the chicagoland homies if they post or not.

Please send some positive thoughts my moms way, because her new puppy is sick :guilty:When she picked her up, the breeder told her that she was getting over a small virus, and gave my mom the pills that she was giving her. The first day, Penny didn't eat or barely drink anything, but we didn't worry, because we thought she was just stressed. Then that first night, she had diaherrea twice in her pen, and cried alot. My mom took her to the vet (which she was going to to do irregardless), and her virus is much worse than what the breeder said, and she also has ear mites:eek: My mom is not happy!!!!:sad2: This is the second time she's used this breeder, and she feels that the breeder should have been more up front with her, and should have kept Penny until she was 100%. So my mom is taking her back to the vet today, to have her examined, and to make sure she isn't dehydrating, because she's still not really eating or drinking. My mom is so nervous, because her last 2 dogs died young, and she doesn't want anything to happen to this puppy. This puppy is very lucky to have my mom, because my mom will make sure that this puppy will get everything she needs to feel better.

Took - That's a bummer about joining the local pool and you can barely use it. I hope it warms up soon for all of us!!! :sunny:
**Have a good time downtown this weekend :cool1:

DG - I agree about thinking only about the pool on hot work days - I do it all the time too ::yes::

FLAngie - I"m glad you had a great time!!!!:goodvibes

ID - I"m glad you had a good first day back at work - that's good news!!!:)
**I don't have any experience with competitive dance, because Stephanie just danced at the school she was at. What I've heard from others is that it is very very expensive, and very demanding. I would look into it, and see if it fits your DD and your family.

To everyone else - :wave2:

Time to go make the donuts (actually picture frames:laughing:)
Have a good day!!!

Happy Friday Everyone! :flower3: chilly morning waiting for the train then walking to work. glad i wore a light jacket!

Slo ~ so sorry to hear about your mom's new puppy. that's so sad. hopefully the vet will get her feeling better real soon. i'll keep her in my prayers.

ID ~ Congrats on teaching again. That's exciting that your daughter was invited to audition. I'm not coordinated at all so stay far far away from choreographed dancing

FLAngie ~ glad you had a nice trip! :goodvibes

everyone else ~ :wave2: have a magical day!:wizard:

Hi gang! I have had such a busy day at work today. This is the first chance I have had to get on the computer.

DS reported that his portion of the yard sale has gone well. He made $42 dollars by 10:00 am. DH said his part of the sale is OK. I know he really wants to sell a piece of furniture that has been in our garage for far too long.

Slo - Poor Penny! I hope she bounces back real quick!

ID - Congrats on the new job! I don't have advice to offer on competitive dance. Good luck with the decision.

Hi to everybody else! Leaving work early today to get home and then get to the Sox game. Go Sox!

Have a great weekend.
Lori

Hi Everyone! I'm not sure if you're taking new members, but I ran across your thread after doing a search for Woodfield. I read about the Doorway to Dreams thing at Woodfield the other day and I wanted to find that thread again (we're considering going but are concerned it is just a hard sell to buy dvc?). Then I ran across this thread and got excited.

We are in the NW suburbs - minutes from Woodfield actually. I'll skip a huge introductions in case you aren't taking new people.

Welcome to the thread!! The more the merrier!! I'm from the west burbs, Elmhurst to be exact.

I've been to D2D many times, there is no hard sell. They currently have the BLT model, the cast members have lanyards too so if you are interested in trading bring yours along.

Yay! Thanks for the warm welcome!

Very cool. Maybe DH will consent. After all, he's been here longer than me. Will we still be as accepted if I tell you that we don't have lanyards? ;)

We must be pretty close! We're in the part of Arlington Heights that goes to Rolling Meadows HS.

OK, so a little bit more about us. I'm Erika, obviously and my DH, Brian is middlepat on here. We have three girls- Mary (6), Shannon (5) and Megan who is about to turn 2. Our oldest two have been to WDW twice and now we're introducing Megan to the Way of the Mouse in November. She had unexpected kidney failure last Christmas and this trip is celebrating her return of kidney function. We have been in and out of Children's with the longest stretch of almost 3 weeks in January. She's doing well now, not fully recovered, but is so much better than where she was. The future is very uncertain- she could need dialysis again, she could need a transplant, we have no idea. But we take each day as it come and celebrate small victories. (good grief that sounds WAY too positive coming from me.)

After all that stress, we decided we needed to get away. And of course we picked WDW. :yay:

When I'm not stressing about Megan, I'm a typical SAHM. Brian is a finance guy doing something or other in finance that I don't really get and don't really care to. Well, that's not exactly true. His last job was more like that for me, but now he works in account transitions. ("Whatever, dear, just keep going to work so we can go to WDW")

HI..

Erika - Hi neighbor.. I am in south part of Palatine near Euclid and Quentin.. and I am DVC.. The Doorway to Dreams event will be fun, one can meet lts of other DISnuts.. I went to the last one.. it is as irish dancer said - not hard sell.. but fun..

ok I just typed a reply and it went poof.. grrrrrr I hate when that happens..

anyway, you don't need lanyards for the D2 event.. but if you want some let me know.. we have been DVC since '93 and have lots of lanyards.. and hats..
