Calling all Chicago DISers #2

So far this evening I was pelted with freezing rain then just rain. Now it seems to be nothing. We will see in the morning how much of the white stuff we get. Probably since I'm planning for a day off nothing will happen

Plan more days off will you? :lmao: I'm so done with winter. Then again, I'm not a big fan of it to start with...so 1 pretty snow around Christmas time and I'm good to go until the next winter.

As for the jury duty. I have no idea. I'm so rarely called & it's a good thing. I was called once when my 11 year old was less than 2 years old, I had *just* quit work to be a SAHM and had no babysitter for timeframe.

The most recent one was I think was early this past year and they sent me home. I sat there most of the morning but didn't end up even getting interviewed (which was a good thing -- I would make a horrible juror as I have been on the witness stand before and well, it's not good memories. So, I have issues with going into the courthouse.) I'm hoping I'm not due now for a very, very, very long time.

jury duty...oh no! I forgot to mail in my questionaire (sp) for the second time. Better go see if I can find that.

We haven't had a flake of snow  and I hope it stays that way:wizard:
Last night we had alot of rain, but that's it :thumbsup2

Tiggggern - I'm glad the tonsilectomies (sp?) helped Kellie and Kyle:) Stephanie's been like a new kid ever since her tonsils and adnoids came out:thumbsup2

Mac - How's the weather up by you? I've been thinking of you.

momto1 - Congrats on becoming a mousekeeter :cheer2:

Becky - Did you have to go out in snow last night, or did you have rain too? I was out quite a bit last night in the rain, and it was yucky. I don't like rain to begin with, but at least in the summer it's warm out, unlike last night, when it's cold and wet

piglet - :wave2:

Bunchkin - I'm glad you and the kids had fun at the museum:goodvibes I would love to go back there with just Stephanie, because I think we would enjoy it more, than when we had Katie with us (that sounds mean, but Katie has no patience, and can really let that be known:rolleyes: )
**Did you get any snow?

bonzarella - I agree!!! I need sunshine too!!! :sunny:

HERSEY - Are you planning your day off to be today or tomorrow? Either way, if you do it, enjoy it!!! :goodvibes

Well, I need to go and make my poll for the day.
Have a good day today everyone!!

No real snow, just sleet but I basically hear ice hitting against the window right now. I have to take DD to school early today for her early morning choir. *yawn* This is so not going to be fun weather to drive in.

I finally got my 7 year old to get up, so I suppose he would like breakfast.

Off to get all our morning insanity ready for the day.

Morning! So, Northerners, snow? Non-stop rain here. I am so sick of this weather. It is really cutting into my Croc Mammoth wearing! I am ready for spring or at least spring break. School is so stressful. I think that is why you are meant to do it before you work, have a house, kids, and a fiance. I spent hours filling out an 8 page study guide!
MOH- I did not really fire her, but she wasn't getting things done. I know she is busy (toddler and ds with Aspebereger's), so I told her my mom and one of the other bmaids was going to take care of it. I hope she wasn't mad.
Stay safe and dry!

Hello all...

I have a big vent: Yesterday, I lost at least ten years off my life. I am pretty sure I heard some brain cells just give up and die. On days when Megan has no school, I send her to the ROL Montessori and Rec Center in my area. They have an all day program and it is linked to the Ivy League before/after school program. So, it's convenient and works out well. I had to pick Megan up after work yesterday, so I head over to the center, walk in, sign her out, start looking around and I don't see her. I start sort of looking a little more closely when the counselor approaches me and says, who are you here to pick up? I give them her name and the counselor starts walking around and I could feel the panic rising in me. This rec center is a huge open gym area with one small room to the side which I can see she's most likely not in. The counselor asks, could she have been picked up by anyone else? Ummm NO!!! :scared1:

Now, I can feel my stomach starting to heave and my mind is racing and I'm not sure who to call first 911 or my DH. The counselor says, don't panic, let me check the girls bathroom.... NOPE, not in there. I turn around, I can see her coat, lunchbox, and sweater, but still no Megan! Just as I'm about to go into full melt down mode, she comes out from behind this small wall and waves at me.

I WAS LIVID! I WAS BEYOND ANGRY AND UNBELIEVABLY UPSET. I started yelling at her, and then I cried, and then I yelled and then I cried. She started crying too! This rec center arrangement is new to me and I don't go there often and I'm not quite acquainted with the "20-somethings" that are there. I trust them, but then again, anything can happen ya know!!

So, needless to say, last night was a total 100% wipe out for me. That emotion just completely drained me. I drove home shaking the whole way just uttering over and over, Megan you just don't understand what you just did to me. She was threatened that if she ever pulled something like that again, the punishment would fit the crime and she would not be allowed to leave the house for three weeks. It would straight home from school and into her room. I wouldn't care if it would totally inconvenience me, I would stick to that one!!

However, seeing that DH had to work all night last night and my nerves were just about shot, I let her sleep in my bed. At least I'd know where she was! So, I slept with a kid on one side of me and a puppy on another, and I actually slept fairly well.

So, if I look a lot older and a little twitchy when you see me next, you'll know why!

Sam

Kids, can't live with 'em, can't duct tape in the closet?? Whatcha gonna do?

Sam -- Oh you poor thing! :grouphug: I know that feeling (DS-11 was notorious for deciding he owned places and taking off, oblivious to the fact that it was enough to give me a heart attack!). It's the worst feeling in the world.

It's not a snow day here but the first time EVER that I can remember they cancelled afternoon Kindergarten. It doesn't affect me but I'm on the e-mail notification list so I got it. I have never ever heard of them having school open but then turning around and cancelling afternoon Kindergarten. All I can say is I hope they actually called all the parents because I know with me having older kids, if they went to school in the morning, it would never even cross my mind to check to see if the school was closed for an afternoon Kindie child. My hunch is they are going to have some of them show up for school today. They aren't sending the older kids home early. It said it's a regular day for all the other students. It remains to be seen if they will cancel after-school activities today though.

I had a dentist appointment, I got it changed. I called to ask what time it was since they told me a different time when they called to confirm on Monday than what I had on my calendar. As soon as I told them who I was & my appointment in the afternoon, the person said "do you want to switch it?" Umm...OK, works for me since my mom wasn't looking forward to drive in this to watch my little guy. I wasn't even calling to do that but it worked out all around.

good wednesday mid morning chicagoland homies.........

our skool was opened this morning and classes held from 7 to 10:21 today.

then the administrators closed the high school down.
first time in 17 years they have closed skool like this.

i know, it is bad up here and snow plows are few.
it took me longer than usual of course to get home.

oh snap. we finally get a partial day off from school and can't go shopping ...

mr mac called a few minutes ago.
his flight from new york to chicago was cancelled last night so he rebooked for late tonight. he originally had a 5 o'clock flight out today but that cancelled first.
now that rebooked flight has been cancelled. next flight united can get him on is 7:30 thursday.

he was lucky to be able to check back into the mariotts and have a place for tonight.

for those getting this bad wind and heavy snow, i feel for you.
later today, i will have to shovel the snow off the patio roof as it could collapse with all the snow it already has on it.

Hello!!

I went to DS's school today for their book fair and to help out at Jump Rope for Heart. Those kids are so cute! Most can't jump rope worth a lick, but they sure were trying hard!! :goodvibes

I feel sorry for all of you up north and all the snow you've been getting already. What are they calling for up there? 14 inches!!??!!

slo Lots of rain here all yesterday afternoon and last night. And it started freezing rain this morning. Now it's snowing here.
Hunter used to be kind of a stinker at going to some places, not too bad though. But now that he is getting older he is really learning to enjoy museums and other similar places. They just don't have the attention span when they are younger. I'm sure Katie will come around in a year to two. princess:

Sue Sorry to hear how upset you were. What an aweful feeling that is to have!! Was Megan hiding intentionally from you?

Sue Sorry to hear how upset you were. What an aweful feeling that is to have!! Was Megan hiding intentionally from you?

Yeah, she saw my car pull up near the window and thought she'd be "funny". I told her, I hope you have a child that does this to you someday!! Then, you will remember and you will hear my voice in your head!! That should take a couple years worth of therapy to work out...

I can remember my Mom saying that to me about things throughout my childhood, so I just passed on the sentiment!

Hello!!

I feel sorry for all of you up north and all the snow you've been getting already. What are they calling for up there? 14 inches!!??!!

on local radio they say up to 18 inches.
on the weather channel 30 minutes ago, they said waukegan/pleasant prairie area up to 17 inches.

but, hey, what's an inch or two when you are having fun.

it is a white out now where i live.

one son went to hardware store. one of our shovels broke at the handle.
very wet snow here.

it was only 2 miles from the house and he saw one car on the main street on its side.

no snow plows yet on our street.

how much snow have you received bunchkin?

I think you're spending too much time at school!!! The kid's bad jargen is rubbing off on you!! :rotfl:  ;)

Hope your DH's flight isn't cancelled again.

he called.
it is.
ohare not accepting flights from the east coast until tomorrow.

now he is booked on united flight for 7ish in the morning thursday.

will see what happens in the mean time.
new york/la guardia has rain. no problem in taking off.
ohare not accepting any flights in as of this morning about 8:00.

samIam, i know first hand that horrible feeling you went through with not finding your daughter at first.

i had that happen to me when david was 18 months old.
i had the new baby in the store cart and the toddler david holding my hand.

i was distracted and he was gone......snatched away from me in a few seconds.

this was at the venture store , harwood heights/chicago when i lived on the K streets off of Lawrence.

he was snatched.
security spotted him with 2 adults leaving the buidling.
david was screaming for mommie.......he was dropped and they got away.

i was physically ill for those 15 minutes he was missing.
i have never gotten over it.

and, that was the last time i ever went to a venture store.
they no longer exist since closing many years back.

i still get sick just thinking about it.
probably why i don't usually bring it up and discuss it.

My mom used to say stuff like that to us too. I'm sure she's cursed us all!!
My mom told my older sister once that she would have kids worse than her and that it would teach her a lesson. Man did it work!!!! Older sisters kids are demons!!

mac Snow started out wet because of the rain. Now it's big flakes. There's just some slush on the streets now. We're lucky here in Joliet, they have a ton of plows.

Just got the automated message from the school - all after school activities are cancelled. I wonder if ds will have baseball hitting practice tonight. I hope not.

Sam - Hugs on your scary adventure with your dd. I would have been so upset, too.

Sure is looking like a winter wonderland out there. Be careful on the drive home, everybody!
Lori

macSorry to hear what happened to your son. How scary for you!!!
That would stick with anyone for a lifetime. It's a parents worst nightmare.

Mac ~ I am sure you can feel like it was just yesterday, just as I can re-live the day Nathan almost died in a blink of the eye.

Sue ~ I hope she learned her lesson, and never does it again.

Stay safe everyone!

Sam- I know that feeling! DD is notorious for wandering off. She's been lost twice- once in Target (code red!) and once in a pumpkin patch. Even though I knew it wasn't likely she'd been kidnapped, you never know. She's gotten the, "You know why I am so mad?!? Because I love you!" speech a few times! It's a terrible fe minutes not knowing where they are. Glad dd was okay!
