Calling all Chicago DISers #2

Not open for further replies.
Evening Disers. I know, 3 posts today!!! Just finished shoveling out the drive so I can (hopefully) just get in the car and go in the morning. It seems to have stopped snowing for now.
Welcome to all our new friends. This might really be a great thing to have happened to us. We might meet a lot of new friends!!:woohoo:
To reintroduce, I am a part-time working mom of 2. DD 9 and DS 7. and DDog 1 (who spends most of his time in trouble). DH is a computer geek and me (sign-in says it all). I work in Labor and Delivery at a community hospital 12 hours shifts a couple days a week. Pretty good gig for the most part, though it does have its days. And then, 12 hours are very long!!!!:rotfl2: DD loves ballet and will be dancing this spring in a Peter Pan production, and DS anything with video games attached to it. (oh, and sometimes soccer, too.)
Around here we are just waiting for the warmer weather and summer vacation!!!!

good friday afternoon chicagoland homies...

saw slo on the threads a bit ago and she told me where to find the winter holiday home you all are staying at now....i hear there are wood burning stoves at the new winter home........

i was able to get two of my threads restarted last night and emails, pm's off to most of the people. that sure took a lot of work.

i really think that the new thread about cliques are unnecessary.

what is wrong with people of the same interest posting to others on that thread of the same interest....:confused3

i'm on some mega threads and i do not consider them cliques. on those threads, no one has ever been treated rudely or discouraged from joining in.
it is so not right to call the chicago thread a clique thread.

ok, done with my rant now.
i'll step off the soap box and let the next homie step up.....

I agree 100%! This gets under my skin because any of the long running threads out there (like this one) would welcome and let anyone who wants jump in....
So insecure I guess.
It make NO sense to me!

BTW HSM on Ice was FABULOUS!!!

Sorry to just jump in with my two sense!

Every meet I've been to I have brought the husband and kiddies :) They have all been really fun!! I've even been to meets in WDW :)

slo will have the bacon and eggs ready for you by 8 am.....

i'm so glad you found us.
i live in the northern burbs.........practically on the state line.

Becky- That's the time dd is going to! Her Gma paid for the tickets and also gave her spending money. Spolied stinker! Ahve fun!
Mac- I don't understand what people object to about long running threads?!? Cliques? Just groups of people with something in common.
Dismeets- A family friendly affair!
New peeps- Welcome! I used to live in New Lenox and was up that way this evening. The roads were horrible. We went to Cheeseburger in Paradise in Downers Grove and 55 was crawling!

Mac was right - here's breakfast!!!! :teeth:

To all our new visitors...................

We are so glad you came here, and we hope you come by and visit often. We would love to get to know you all!!!! :goodvibes

Becky - Good luck to your DD with the choir :wizard: That would be great if you both could go to WDW :goodvibes
**Speaking of your DD - how is she doing with having to wear her back brace more? I hope she is doing okay with it, and it doesn't upset her to much.
**Have fun at the ice show!!! :cool1:

Tigggerrnnnnn - I'm so sorry you didn't get to go the movie:guilty:
Hopefully you'll get to go another time.

DMM - Continuned prayers for Roman!!!!

Paint - We are going to see HSM on Ice on February 10th at The United Center. I'm actually excited to see this one - it'll be really good (at least I hope).
**Did you ever hear back from your MOH?
**Have fun at the ice show!!! :cool1:

Debbie - Have fun at the ice show tomorrow :cool1:
**I just read your post that you went to the ice show last night too, and that it was good - I"m so glad to hear that!!!! :goodvibes

Mac - The thread about us being cliques does tick me off too, and you may have seen I posted on it. I don't understand why these people have a hard time clicking on the different pages to see different posts :confused3 - I do it all the time!!! Is it laziness? I just don't get it:confused:

D.S. (Donald's Shrink, my new abbreviation) - Please, please, please bring your family. We haven't had a meet for some time, and we are going to need to have one soon (I miss everyone), and we all bring our kids and S.O. (well, my DH doesn't come, but I'm hoping he will sometime). It definitly is for families!!!!:goodvibes

HERSEY - :wave2:

kors - The roads were really bad here to last night ::yes::
I hate the winter!! :cold:

piglet - How are you knees doing lately? I hope they are better :wizard:

bonzarella - Hi from N.W. Indiana too :wave2:

To everyone else - :wave2:

I never reintroduced myself...............

My name is Sandy, and I own a custom picture frame store in N.W. Indiana.
I have a DH named Kevin, and he is an engineer by day (his career), and a volunteer fireman for our town when he's home. On the dept he is a Lieutenant (sp?), and an EMT.
Together we have 2 DD's. Stephanie is 9 (she's in the picture in my siggie), and Katie is 4.

Well, I guess that's about it from me for now
I need to go get ready for work now
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Becky- That's the time dd is going to! Her Gma paid for the tickets and also gave her spending money. Spolied stinker! Ahve fun!

Cool!!!! We have floor seats and I'm just hoping some 6' tall person doesn't sit in front of DD. It will be fun. We will be leaving in a little bit even though we will be about the 2 hours early! Better that than an hour LATE. I still need to go get some spending $$$, my mom gave us some but I want to have extra just in case. I ran out of time to get organized last night plus with the snow/bad roads I didn't want to drive more than necessary. I know we will end up leaving about 30-40 min. later than I planned to get going (we *always* do -- why shoud today be an exception, we have already had one glitch in that my jeans didn't get completely dry last night in the dryer, so they are on other cycle right now.) It's always something in our household.

Mac was right - here's breakfast!!!! :teeth:

Becky - Good luck to your DD with the choir :wizard: That would be great if you both could go to WDW :goodvibes

Could you have made that breakfast real? Too bad this isn't Willy Wonka and it could come through the computer. We only have cereal in the house and I know that won't stick with me. I'll be hungry again in at least an hour.

She is doing OK with the back brace. She's being a bit of a stinker with it, having it off more than she's supposed to again but I'm trying to hound her better. I know she is going to do her out of brace time while we are at the show today but with driving time added in, this will be a day that is out longer than she's supposed to be by a couple hours. Then tomorrow she has a cheerleading meet and it's about an hour away. Again, she doesn't wear it for the competitions, so she will have it off that entire time since she will have her uniform on while traveling and the competitions tend to take all day. So, here we are 2 days in a row being bad. :scared1: We just keep trying.

The ice show should be fun. My boys have their Pinewood Derby today and so their dad is taking them to that. Between the 2, I think I'll have more fun at the ice show. The Pinewood Derby is a long day and my older son tends to have melt-downs when things aren't going well. He already had one at check-in when DH was trying to fix it with some weights because he thought it was going to cover up a design he made. He started a freak out on how he isn't going to race since that's covered, blah, blah, blah. Turns out DH didn't put the weights on top anyway, he was just putting it there for the time being but I got to deal with a 2-year old in an 11-year old's body. He does this *every* year...there will be something that will set him off and he will be a total brat about it. This year I won't have to deal with it, DH will. :rotfl:

Have a great day everyone.

Slo Thanks for breakfast ;)

I have one question? Do we really need more snow? It about now that I get really tired of winter and really really want spring to come.

Well off to do the usual saturday stuff cleaning and laundry Oh yeh.:rolleyes1

Thanks that works perfect for my low-carb diet. I hope there's enough for my wife and daughter or else I might have to get up and make some real bacon and eggs for them.

That's great, as long as I don't get confused for a DS. The reason I asked about the meets is because I'm really interested in finding other Disney enthusiasts nearby but I did want to be the only guy there if I did come solo. Similarly, if I brought my family and it was adults only, that would be embarrassing too. Hopefully we'll be able to make it out of the frozen cornfields of DeKalb to do some things as it warms up.

Thanks for the welcome & breakfast-yummo. Anything that is not a pop tart before 8am around here is considered gourmet;)
Something strange going on outside, there is a big yellow ball in the sky:cool2: going to go investigate:rolleyes1 . Have a great weekend:banana:

DS ~ as far as meets go, I have only brought my daughter once. My husband comes with every time though, so no need to worry about being the only man.

Tiggern ~ I did not know you did L & D, that is what I have been thinking about going back to school to do.

Slo ~ Knee still hurts, but I am back at work.

DisMeet- I was just think we need to have one soon! I need to bring DFiance so we can begin the brainwashing. Poor guy had never been to Disney! Can you believe it?!?
Becky- Oh yeah. It's a given that we are late, too. I think that is a given once you add kids to the mix.
Slo- I'm not going to HSM. DD went with her aunt. Better for spoiling. DS convinced his Gma to let him spend the weekend, so I am child-free. Woohoo! Thanks for bfast, btw. I am going to make some banana pancakes tomorrow, so I'll be sure to share. Let me know when it is Tonga Toast time. Never had it!
MOH update- I finally emailed her, asking her for clarification as to what happened and telling her that it really hurt me. She responded and apologized, but it almost seemed snotty. I don't know...we've been friends for 6 years (met through playgroup), but our lives have gone in different directions. I can't fire her, and really don't want to, but I know things will be weird now.
Need to go exercise. Still paying for Christmas cookie indiscretions.:sad2:

I gang! Long time no see. How is everyone?

Hi everyone!! Since I very rarely ever peruse the boards anymore, I primarily work off of email notification of subscribed threads. So, I didn't know there was a new thread. Finally, today, I figured there was no way Slo wouldn't have started a new thread, so I came looking for it. ;)

How is everyone? Staying warm?

Hmmm... Let's see... People of the same interest posting to others with the same interest. Hey, that sounds like another board. Seriously, if the webmasters create a new board for it, it's seen as a wonderful thing. If a user creates a thread for it, they're seen as starting a clique.

People just get mad when they don't share that same interest and so they feel they're missing out.

slo is a good cook.
she'll whip up more for the sleepyheads that come late to the table...
and you noticed she added tomatoes to that plate for us.
i grew up having tomatoes at breakfast time.

i have only been to 2 meets as i am farther north than most of the homies in the group. i'm on the wisconsin/illinois NE border.
the ones i went to had men there. Dan Murphy was at both and he didn't bring his wife with.

i did one meet in Gurnee at the Blue Resturant last january at this time.
we had men there also.

hey, how about doing the blue resturant again......

i was making a list of the MIA's here john.
about to do a hunt for you.....

i post all over.
i do some threads on the CB, most on the Universal forums and i do the resturants, resorts, game threads a lot.
i don't discriminate. i post on lots of threads, even the ones that die out after 2 pages....how else would my post count be that high if i stayed with just a few threads?

i always make a apost on the UO thread, Something about Nothing once a month to invite all the lurkers and silent readers to join in.

we get a lot of drop bys there. there are some disney fans that come to us for universal questions. we always answer and offer help. sometimes a few of them stay and yak with us later.

maybe i should make a post in the CB that states:

Come to the chicago new and improved thread.
you don't have to live there to be there with us.

all welcome.
the light is left on for you....

Slo.. totally kewl you run a framing shop. I used to do custom framing - back in the day - I found it very theraputic, unless there was a tiny piece of lint that keeps getting between the art and the glass :lmao:

We are not going to see HSM on ice, sadly. I hemmed and hawed and decided the cost wasn't worth it, since my kids are not huge fans of it.

Today we had lunch at Ed Debevics at York Town. WOW what a great time. We all dressed up in 50's fashion and were picked on relentlessly.

Here is the crew dancing..

Four of the cutest boys in the world... my BIL, Grandpa, Daddy, and big boy Charlie

While all the adults got the worlds smallest ice cream sundae My DD ordered what seemed to be a mear ice cream cookie sandwich... but as you can see it was much much more

DSC02606.jpg

And the boy took eating his giant cake very seriously
DSC02607.jpg

And a lousy picture of me... (like there are any good pictures of me - sigh - )

DSC02614.jpg

We have gone there a couple of times, but this was by far the best trip. I think the secret is to show up right when they open, and are slow... we had a wonderfully snarky waitor Mortermer (green plaid shirt dancing int he above pic), food was hot and yummy portions HUGE. Two thumbs up!

hello chicagoland homies.

i set the place mat out for newbies to join in with us.

just put another potatoe in the pot if they all stay for supper.....

i thought about it for sometime. i told another diser that i did not want to post on the new thread that has issues against some of the mega threads.

i changed my mind and invited the world to come to Chicago #2.

if you object, let me know.

my post as:

come with me babypiglet. we have crossed paths before.
i post on quite a few mega threads and you are always welcome to where i am!!

in fact, i invite all of you out there to stop by and say hi to the homies at the test thread, Something is Nothing thread, Chicago thread, like it love it hate it thread, where's the tag fairy thread...........and there are more.

with the number of posts i have, i'm on quite a few threads, not just one mega thread.

test thread has been reopened to TEST (part 2)
chicago thread as Chicago #2.

you will see both in the community board.
both threads have had new homies stop by. we encourage all to stay awhile and visit. we throw out the Welcome mat when newbies stop in.

and, you don't have to bring the doughnuts when you come.
we have a cook for all the threads where i am.
main reason i am constantly on a diet.....

Holy cow, I am so cold in this store today!!!!! :cold:
With this plaza being new, there are no renters on either side of me, and therefore, they aren't heated or insulated. The cold from those 2 places come straight into here, and needless to say, my heat goes right through the drywall into there. My NIPSCO bill is as much for my little store, as it is for my quad-level house - not good!!!:sad2:

Becky - How did the boys do with the Pinewood Derby today? I hope they did well:wizard:

HERSEY - I was so surprised about the snow yesterday. If I didn't see another snowflake for the rest of this season, or even my life, I would be fine with that :thumbsup2

DS - When we do have a DIS meet, Dan Murphy is generally always there, and if we are up north, Big V comes too ::yes:: You probably won't be the only man :)

bonzarella - No sun here :sad2: I wish there was, it would help heat up my store

piglet - I'm sorry your knee still hurts :guilty: If it makes you feel any better, mine hurt alot too lately. Do have a knee brace you can wear?

paint - Don't tease me about Tonga Toast - I'll jump on a plane right now to go get some :teeth:
**I'm sorry your MOH didn't seem sincere. Hopefully this will all blow over so there's not tension. Keep us posted!!!:grouphug:

Crissup - I'm glad you found us!!!! :goodvibes I couldn't agree more with your post of clique vs. nonclique :thumbsup2

Mac - I read your post on that thread, and it is absolutly okay for you to ask people to join us:) . Many won't though, because then they'll have to be part of the, dare I say it, a clique thread that they are so against:headache:

Laura - Great pictures!!!!:goodvibes It looks like you all had a great time!!! Have you had there chili - it's the best chili I've ever had, and I've had some good chili :teeth:
**Where did you used to frame??

Well, I'm off to do something at work to warm up
Have a good rest of the day today!!
