Cabana "Visitors"

Thanks for the update - can you (or anyone) discuss the extra cost. We are traveling with another families - all reservations are linked.

The main cabin of 5 secured the cabana
The second cabin of 2 will be joining them.
They invited us (cabin of 3) to join them also.

Can you confirm that if they add us it will be an extra $150????

But there is a total of 10 people. So 6 are included and 4 have to pay. So extra $200 total (extra $50 for cabin two and extra $150 for cabin three, right?).

I think they were saying $150 for the family of 3 .... The other family would pay the extra $50.

Thanks all - I get it. $150 for us and cabin number 2 would have to kick in $50. So this brings me to the question......is it really worth it?????

I thought $499 was a bit over the top - now I'm seeing that if you want 10 in your cabana it actually is $699!!! WOW.

I may not actually go then even though I would love for our DD to be able to play with the other kids. We typically play on the beach and in the water for a few hours, eat lunch and then explore the island a bit.

So to all you cabana people.....what is so impressive about doing one (other than the thrill of actually getting one!!!)

If they invited you for an extra 150 that's a deal. The cabana is nice and private. That is our main concern. We also like that the kids have a place to rest. It's a nice place to enjoy your lunch and just relax without having to worry about crowds or finding a safe place for your stuff. It's a nice concierge type experience.

Are you sure that they did not just want to split the cost 10 ways?

They may expect to divide it since that seems fair. We have thought about sharing and would want to share price too. For 150 it a great deal

For $50/pp (or even $70/pp if you split it by 10), I think it would be worth it. You also get a bike/float/snorkel rental which by itself is $32. So now I'm just justifying $18 for the drinks, snacks, sunblock, endless towels, shower for my sandy feet...

Yep, for $18 I'm in!

Drinks, snacks and towels are free for everybody on Castaway Cay.

Yes, you have a "private" shower to wash your feet, but there are showers all over the island. There is no bathroom in the cabana, so you still have to mingle with the common folk there. ;)

There are lots of shady places to sit and lots of beach to play on for free.

If you are self-reliant, mobile, and likely to be all over the island, cabanas are probably not worth the money. If you intend to be in one place and desire extra assistance, it's a great deal.

It's not totally private, you are sharing the "private" beach with the other 16 cabanas.

But you don't have to wait in line for your tubes or snorkles, the water and snacks are right there, you don't have to go get them. There are extra towels, and if you run out, someone will go get more for you. They will send a golf cart to take you to the tram (for some reason, they wouldn't take us all the way to the ship -- just to the tram station.) And it is a long walk, so if you have mobility issues that could be a BIG help.

With two babies, it was a lifesaver. If it had just been me and my two teens, I think I would have chosen to spend the money elsewhere.
