BWV rooms and view category- some questions

complicated questions that popped up during my regular daydreaming of being at WDW :

my first set of questions is about a particular set of rooms at the BWV.
there are some rooms on top of the Wyland Galleries that face similar rooms across the way which belong to BWI. they also overlook the boatlaunch, and the grassy area (which i believe is called the "Boardwalk Green"). they have a sideways view of the Boardwalk towards the area in front of Flying Fish.

are these rooms technically considered Standard View? or are they Preferred View?
anyone know what the case is for the corresponding BWI rooms (are they categorized std-view or water-view)?

second question(s) = which BWV rooms have the best view (unobstructed) of Spaceship Earth? is this only possible with Preferred View rooms or are there Std View rooms that have a good view of the ball as well?

is there such thing as a non-Boardwalk-view room which happens to overlook water (lake or pond) AND have a view of Spaceship Earth?

disneyberry, I can't answer all your questions but I do know that the rooms above the Wyland Galleries are considered "preferred" view. I know this because we booked a 2 bedroom and a studio and requested the BW view for both. The 2 bedroom looked out over the pool but we had a tree that obstructed the view. The studio was over the galleries and was considered a preferred view. After that stay, I quit trying for the preferred view and have gone with standard view whenever I can get it!

We stayed in a 1BR over the gallery and it was a preferred view - Boardwalk view room. We could see Spaceship Earth from the balcony.

The best Boardwalk view rooms are on the Boardwalk area.

We have stayed in both PV and SV rooms and none of the SV rooms had a view of Spaceship Earth but did have a view of Epcot.

The non-Boardwalk view rooms that are preferred can overlook water of the canal, quiet pool, or main pool.

It was very important on our first trip to get a view of Spaceship Earth and we did after that we have been very happy with Standard view rooms.

Aren't all the rooms on the Boardwalk side "preferred", and aren't all "standard" in the front of the BWV ("parking lot" view)? How would anyone see EPCOT?...wouldn't the parking lot side see MGM?

Our standard view room was at the far end of the resort, near the tennis courts. To see Epcot, all you had to do is stand on the balcony and look to the left. We could see France, England and fireworks at night. Then when we looked to the right we could see MGM and Fantasmic at night. Also had a good view of the canal.

There is alot of controversy at BWV about the view. OUr preffered view in Dec was of trees. Oh and the back of a fence. I had a big problem with that, but noone could help me, they could have oved me the next day, but I would have had to pay a fee plus check out at 11 and wait until 4 to go to the new room.

The rooms that form the corner over the Wyland Galleries and the general store are preferred view studios and Grand Villas. In fact all the Grand Villas run from over the courtyard area and arround the corner down the boardwalk to the end of the general store. Thereafter on the boardwalk, over Big River Grill and the DVC sales office, are the 2BR's (which can become 1BR and studio). The best view of Epcot and Spaceship Earth are from those 2BR's (although all studios and GV's over the general store have a very good view). The only preferred view rooms that have an Epcot view are those overlooking the courtyard area where Wyland is and the boardwalk. The standard views are those overlooking the front entrance, road leading to the front entrance and the tennis courts; all of those also have some view of the parking lot; many of those, particularly higher floors that overlook the road leading to the front entrance have a decent view of Epcot looking over the BWI buildings and can see the Illuminations fireworks; the ones that overlook the tennis courts can also see part of MGM. All the other preferred views overlook the main pool, the quiet pool, and the lagoon leading to MGM. From many you can see Swan/Dolphin, and part of MGM.

According to our Member Guidebook (page 38) the points chart for BoardWalk Villas states:
' "Preferred View" includes views of the boardwalk, pools, water, or garden'.

okay, i think i'm understanding the room categories better. thanks to all who replied

something else i thought of:

in this picture, what section of BWV is shown? what would be the location of these rooms on the resort map for example? i couldn't figure it out because there is a lake or other body of water in front of the rooms. and since these rooms overlook water, are they preferred-view?

I don't have a link to a map but this area is a Standard view area. The water you see is a run-off area near the parking lot. Someone else can correct me if I am wrong but this area is near the front entrance.

We had a studio 4th floor of your picture. Standard. I liked it a lot. I don't mind the walk and the view was nice the plarking lot was blocked by trees, actualy the balcony was dark and private.

Our standard view 1 bedroom last month was on the right of the picture, on the third floor partially behind the tree. I thought the view of the pond & fountain was pretty. It was a long way down the hall, but there was a fire exit across from our room that we sometimes used to get out to the parking lot (there's an exit door at the bottom near the yellow part).

We stayed almost where DebbieB stayed and really enjoyed the room. We had a decent view of the higher fireworks at EPCOT, and actually enjoyed watching folks come and go-especially the valet parkers as they raced back and forth. We used the stairwell often since the elevators were about six miles away. We joked that the stairs worked off the extra calories we packed away on vacation. Last year we had a quiet-pool view on the ground level, but I'd rather save a few points, since our rooms are often empty from 9am to 9pm.

Can't wait to get there for Halloween this year.

This is probably more info that you asked for, but I thought it might be helpful to describe the spot from which the picture was taken:

There is a sidewalk/walkway from one of the BWV building entrances that goes along this pond and ends at the entrance driveway. In the photo, the entrance is just outside the picture on the right. If you cross the driveway at the end of the sidewalk and then cross the road that runs in front of the convention center (we used to call this "kiddie corner"), you will be at the bustop. ( Less than 2 minutes from entrance to bus stop).

As the others have said, the view from the rooms in the picture are considered standard view. Our first floor 2 bedroom villa was one of the rooms pictured. The landscaping/pond pretty much blocked out the roads and parking lot. The entrance mentioned above was very convenient for the bustop, especially since we had a stoller along (16 month toddler) . We were able to hear and see the higher EPCOT fireworks/lasers from our first floor room. Even if you have an upper floor room, you cannot see more than this, as the globe is not visible unless you are actually standing around the lagoon. Quite a few of the standard view rooms have this view, but NOT those closest to the lobby/elevators. The BW lobby and BWI wings block the view from these rooms. You MIGHT be able to see something from rooms close to the elevators if you are on the very top floors.

I loved the location of our room. We did have to walk quite a ways to use the pool, but that was because of the rehab. Once it is finished, our room would be just a short distance from a door that leads to the quiet pool/community hall area.

We've stayed at BWV three times - all in standard view rooms. The only request I've ever made was for non-smoking. We've had a good location every time and I'm beginning to think there really isn't a bad one. It can be nice to be close to the elevators, but if you are not, the walk to MGM is shorter and you can see the nightly fireworks from your room! I know that having two "tiers" of room views can be a pain to manage, but as far as I'm concerned, it's great to get the rooms we actually prefer for for fewer points.
