Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

Thanks for the welcome :goodvibes

I ran on the Lakefront Path on Saturday. It was ~50 degrees outside! I had 6 miles on the schedule but ended up doing 10 since it was so nice out. Since it was the first weekend day above freezing, the path was packed! I think all the runners in the city came out of hibernation this weekend and took advantage of the fantastic weather. Here are a few pics:

There is something so inspiring about getting closer to the downtown skyline with each step.

The snow is melting but it's not quite summertime here yet.

The snow is melting but there are lots of puddles... I stepped in a large one with 3 miles to go and had to finish my run with soaking wet shoes and socks. Ended up with a few blisters but it was worth it to not have to run indoors. :thumbsup2

I was also one of the many DVC people calling to reserve a villa at Bay Lake Tower today! I am going around Halloween so it looks like I'll be able to run the Tower of Terror race this year also! :cool1:

Have a great week...

Donna & Lisa - Congrats on your BLT ressies! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:

Chris
- Glad you got to enjoy the outdoors as well.

Thanks everybody for your stretching tips. Keep 'em coming. Thanks to GOOGLE I found some good IT stretches, and I think that has been my problem. Thanks to Lily sending me a note on FB. Thanks Lily if you happen to be peeking in. I did several new ones that I found, and lets just say my hip is much happier!! ::yes::

And if any of our Buzzies are on FB, send me a note, and we can be friends over there too. ;)

Hey Everyone!

Got in 4 miles last night outside and yes the snow is mostly gone. What was great about it was my DD(9) went out with me on her bike and we had a nice chat. I hope she does that in the future. She was beat by the time we got home, but we'll have to get her in better shape. :lmao:

Come on Buzzies lets get moving........

Hi All and welcome to the new members! :cool1:

I haven't run much since Disney. Actually if I didn't have a few races coming up I probably wouldn't be running now. I need to rest my knees! They are getting old.

I have been working out pretty much every day just not running. I did get out Friday for 4 miles then Sunday for 6 miles. Sunday was up to mid 70's so it was actually a little warm when I finished.

I have a couple of 5k's coming up and the Hooter's to Hooter's half marathon on March 1. They give you wings and beer at the finish. Top that Disney! Oh yea, it is only $30 and has all the water stops, etc. Why again is Disney so expensive?

After these races I might just take a little break from running.

Still debating about the Goofy again. Not sure but I know I need to make a decision soon. To make matters worse, I definitely decided against running the Goofy and the 5K again. So my wife says to me the other day "if you run Disney again I'd like to run the 5k with you" UGH!

keep posting!
Duane

Hey Buzzies,

Come on Buzzies lets get moving........ I'm trying Chris. I'm really trying!

Thanks Duane. I can relate. It so good seeing our teammates out and running.

WOW Lisa. Beautiful shots of Windy City!

I have reallllllly had a hard time :sad1: getting motivated since the 1/2. It's almost like I set the goal, accomplished the goal, now what?:confused3 I don't feel like I can handle the training for a full but I do want to keep going. Maybe getting out on the bike again will be the answer. I have done one three miler each of the last two weeks but's almost like it's work instead of fun. I don't know.

That's why I lean on the Buzzies. I think I'm gonna go do 30 minutes on the elliptical right now. Just typing this has motivated me:yay: . To infinity.......

Mike,
you need to schedule something. I have to have something to train for. anything within the next month or so?
Duane

Hey Buzzies! How's it going? :thumbsup2 A fly-by from Ohana, just to see how you're doing.

Lisa: Welcome to the Buzzies. I'm sorry to learn you can't do the January marathons, but it's very cool that you've gotten to do so many Disney races. So many people are doing the Princess race you're making me (lime) green with envy. Your hometown runs look beautiful, too.

Allie: Any decisions yet? Go for it! (I'll put pressure on you.) I try to stretch 5 minutes at the beginning and 10-15 minutes at the end. But to be truthful, I tend to short the end stretching even though I know I shouldn't. I'm working on it. Glad to hear you got good suggestions and your hip is feeling better.

Wendy: I assume you're in for the Goofy next year? Thanks for the suggestion about the heating pad on the Achilles. I'll try that next year.

Linda: I'm a Floridian at heart, too. Great job with your miles. It's always more fun with friend, as it makes the time go faster.

Casey: I agree, it's really beneficial to XT and to be encouraged to do so. I feel so much better, and my running performance is better, when I'm consistently XT. I'm trying to use that encouragement to expand into stretching.

Ang: Shopping can raise one's HR, especially if it's a good sale!

Kirsite~Louise: Congrats on your first training day! Great time!

Chris: Great job with your miles, of course. Running and biking--what fun for you and your daughter. And excellent job organizing the thread! :yay:

Donna: I tend to prefer the TM, too, as I love the distraction of the DVD/television. I've tried to make it a point to get outside, though, in preparation for races.

Duane: Oh, c'mon, do Dopey this year. Support your wife with the 5K. Besides, me and DOOD are doing Dopey. (Peer pressure, peer pressure.) Your Hooters to Hooter run sounds like a lot of fun, and at a reasonable entry fee (unlike Disney).

Mike: It sounds like a little post-race, midwinter blues. I have it too, and don't put pressure on myself to do a lot of running (as I don't have an upcoming race). I find that XT works really well for me, so I think biking might be the answer! Or schedule a race, as Duane suggested, even a local 5K. Good luck finding the temporarily missing motivation.

To any Buzzies, I missed: Hi, keep up the great work, and see you on the boards!

Ok Buzzies, I did it!!! I just signed up for my first Half Marathon. It is the Country Music Half in Nashville, TN.

Please send me plenty of pixiedust: ! I'm nervous, excited, scared all at the same time. There are going to be several WISHERS (most of which are Buzzies BTW ;) ) there, so I'll be in good company. :thumbsup2

Thanks alot Debra for that PUSH! :upsidedow

Duane - you better watch out Debra's pressure is pretty persuasive. :rolleyes1

Hi Brigade from teh Warriors!!!! I'm nowher enar as good as Debra and barely keeping up with my own team, but hope to do better soon! In teh meantime, keep up teh great work everyone!!! :cheer2:

Linda

I have talk a local cycling race in to letting me race with them on sunday, its only 4.2 miles, but its still a race, and I need all the practice I can get, and of course the double miles!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I just got assigned to this wonderful team! I skimmed over all the earlier posts and I look forward to getting to know everyone better in the coming days. Please forgive me if I can't remember details about individual team members just yet.

My name is Lisa. I saw that we also have another Lisa on the team so I hope it won't be too hard to keep us straight.

Some background: I kept hearing podcasters talk about the Disney races and thought that it sounded fun but 13.1 miles sounded like such a long distance. Then I heard about the Expedition Everest Challenge and a 5k seemed like something I could achieve. Plus I was totally into the whole obstacle course and scavenger hunt aspect of it too. I had already been running occasionally on the treadmill so I started running outside. Then I started running more regularly. Before I knew it I had completed my first 5k in April 2008. I did a bunch more local 5ks and a 10k before the EEC. The EEC was a blast and I couldn't have wished for a more wonderful experience at my first Disney race.

After I heard about the Princess 1/2 I decided that would be my next Disney race. I know many people like to have their "firsts" at Disney, but I thought it would be nice to get in a 1/2 before the Princess just so I wouldn't have any doubts about completing and be able to enjoy myself more. I live in Arizona so it only made sense to sign up for the Rock 'n' Roll AZ 1/2 Marathon that took place last month. I'm happy to say that I successfully have my first 1/2 marathon behind me now. I think it's just about one year that I've been running now.

I did run into some different problems (injury, sickness) towards the end of last year so my goal this year is to educate myself as much as possible to avoid injury and stick to a regular training schedule. What I love about these boards is the willingness to share. I don't run with anyone else so it's great hearing other people's stories and what they're going through.

Looking ahead, I have a 10k this weekend that I'm a little worried about. Not the distance, but my time. The reason I registered for the race is because I'm already addicted to medals and they're giving out medals to the first 300 finishers. I think I have a shot at it, but because of all the interruptions with my training, I'm a bit slower now than I was back in September last year.

Then I'm off to WDW at the end of the month. :cool1: I'm doing the ESPN 5k then the 5k and 1/2 for Princess weekend. Three more medals! And after that I have the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle 1/2 and the Disneyland 1/2 on the schedule too. So it's a very full year for me, but I'm excited. I think the hardest part isn't the training itself but just finding the time to train. My BF jokingly complains that I'm never home to spend time with him.

Anyway, that's me. Sorry it's so long, but I actually tend to write more when I'm in a hurry since I spend less time thinking about what I'm typing. I'll do my best to contribute as many miles and minutes to the team as I can. Thanks for letting me join!

Shoot -- I wasn't logged in and just lost an entire post :headache:

It was fascinating, too! You will just have to take my word for it :rolleyes1

Short version:

I'm impressed with a lot of the speed, miles and race schedules on the team. You guys rock and have definitely inspired me to exercise more consistently this month. I can't keep up with some of you, but I want to be a steady contributor. I don't know much about the other teams, but I think the Buzzies are gonna kick some butt :thumbsup2.

For me today: 30 min. on elliptical. Might have gone longer but had to pick up DS16 from school (sick). Will probably walk or walk/run tomorrow.

I really did address some people specifically in the post I lost, but I don't have time to rethink/retype. Everybody have a great day!!

Good Morning Everyone,

Today I did 3.11 miles in 31:11, a 10:01 pace-

Chris- I can relate to having your DD on the bike with you.Unfortuately when my DDs were younger and we tried that they would stop for every rock and dandilion!

Allie- Congrats on signing up- we have a large group I think!

Duane- If you don't want to do the 5k I'm sure your wife could hang with plenty of us.

Mike-I get that whole winter blues thing- 48 today and I want to bring out the summer clothes.I have had it.

Have a great day everyone,
Linda

Good morning Buzzies!

Well, that nice weather is gone already - it's back in the 30's. I'm glad I got to enjoy it while it was here...

Weight training on Mon, ran 4.5 miles on Tues and 4.25 miles on Wed. Running is not very much fun on the treadmill. I keep thinking that I'll be at WDW in 3 weeks and that helps a lot. Tonight is more weight training (leg night - yuck) and Fri is my rest day.

Aldisneygrl - Congrats on signing up for CM1/2! I am also signed up for this one. I am 95% sure I am going (I have a hotel reserved but have not booked a flight yet). I have never been to Nashville so this is a great opportunity to see a new city.

Hungrygreenhippo - Another Lisa! For such a common name, I really do not know many Lisa's. I'm running the Princess 1/2 and D'land 1/2 also! I've done the D'land 1/2 every year so why break the streak. Plus Labor Day weekend is a good time for me (gotta love when you can extend a trip without taking an extra vacation day). I've been thinking about RNR Seattle also but have not made any decisions yet.

Like others have said, if I don't sign up for races, I cannot stay motivated to workout. That's why I'm actually glad that Disney moved the spring race to March. I will do 2-3 more 1/2 marathons in April/May while the weather isn't too hot yet. I just can't decide what to do for summer/fall (triathlon vs marathon #2). At least I have some time to think about it.....

Have a nice rest of the week!

lisa

Hi Lisa, I'm from the Chicagoland area and SWA has had some great deals on flights to Nashville!! We are going to have a great time in Nashville and I hope to see you there.....

ok, I'd better get ready to get on the TM, I've got 50 minutes scheduled tonight, so a quick all-purpose HI to everyone!!

MM Lisa, Allie, Linda and Pat: A good friend of mine did the CM 1/2 last year and loved it! I hear the finish is a big downhill.

HGH Lisa: Sounds like you have the running bug for sure! Good luck at your 10K this weekend.

I'm feeling like I need to do a race! Most local things (I'm near Charlotte) have pace requirements and hills that make me nervous. Pat, you have SC as a possibility for 2009 -- what race are you thinking about doing?

Did you book a flight already? Since there is a very small chance I will not be able to make it and the flights aren't too expensive on SW, I am planning to wait until the beginning of April to book a flight (unless there's a super cheap fare then I'll take my chances).

I am planning on doing Kiawah in December! Wendy posted a great report about the race, and the medal is really cool!

Pat,
That is so cool that you have raced in so many states- you must know someone on an airline???????
