Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

Hellooooo, Buzzies. It's great to have a new challenge to motivate us all! Try not to leave Ohana too far behind! Just a couple of hellos between Superbowl plays....

Chris: Great job with the new thread. I'd forgotten all about the doubled miles for races, so thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

Allie: Sure, go ahead and tell everyone your second name. As if our lives aren't confusing enough....Are you sure you don't have a second name because you're a super spy/assassin? If so, I'm so jealous!

Duane: Are you going Goofy/Dopey this year, too?

Donna: I think you can check DisneyRunning for unofficial race %s?

Pat: 12 states down already? Wow, you're really flying! :cool1:

Mike: Just another big congratulations to you and your wife for marathon weekend. You motivate us all to be our best. :flower3:

SNICKERS! We were trying to keep her from knowing that Chris!

I'm just trying to keep you guessing.:faint: Actually I think I will have schizophrenia when I get older due to the fact that I have two names here, and I'm always being someone else at work. Since, I am the helper, I am the first one to be used as a sub. Now are you confuzzled? ;)

Thanks for stopping by Debra! We're gonna FLY right past you! To Infinity and Beyond!!!!

Quick question on the tracking - when we do miles, do we count both miles and minutes? Or just miles?

If I run 2 miles in 30 minutes and do XT for 30 minutes, does that mean I record a total time of 1 hour and total mileage of 2?

Sometimes I'm easily confused. :rolleyes2

Yes! ::yes:: And if you do a race you get to double the miles, but not the time.

Hey Gang! just a brief hi-jacking from your friendly Triple D team. I made a real good friend in your Co-Captain at WDW during Marathon Weekend and all I can say is she (and Jim) are great people. They saw this shy kid that wasn't talking to anyone there and ended up giving me all kinds of tips and ideas to prep for the race (knowing that it was my first). I can't thank them enough.

And Wendy, what can I say about Wendy? I am in awe of her!! She is incredible. Just watching and listening to her at the 5k when she was being interviewed made me wish I could be more like her. And then coming back and finding out how many races she has done, :scared: !

I also wanted to compliment your Captain, Chris. Great story guy! I am so impressed at what you have been able to accomplish. Although I didn't see/meet you at WDW, I do hope I see you there next year. Any man or women that accomplish what you have been able to do, I really want to shake your hand and say Thank You for the inspiration!

All I can say is that you Buzzies have got some great teammates! Hope you all have a great year and feel free to visit the Triple D's any time you like and say Hey!

Bryan:joker:

Thanks for the quick answer, Allie!

Well, my planned 3-miler for today got bumped because we went over to watch the Super Bowl with some friends, and I procrastinated too long and just ran out of time. I'll get out there and do it tomorrow instead. :)

We're mailing off our race registration tomorrow for our first 5K of the year. We're doing the Bagel Fest 5K in the beginning of March. I did this race last year, and really enjoyed it, so this year DH is running it with me. It will also be DS's first race to ride in the stroller. He usually loves riding in the stroller, so hopefully it will go well!

Whew what a game last night. I got almost no sleep because of it. With my heart racing that should count as XT right? :lmao:

Got in 4 miles yesterday on the treadmill. Ice still on our roads in my little town. Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Just a quick post while I'm supposed to be paying bills ...

I got in a 3 1/2 mi. walk yesterday and will have to do something today -- way too much food at a Super Bowl party last night!

What a great game! I didn't have a "dog in the hunt," so I was just happy that it went down to the wire.

It's been fun to learn a little about everyone -- Chris and Mike, stories like yours are what make this sport so neat. And Wendy, well, she's famous!

Have a great day, all :)

Hi Buzz Team!

February is off to a good start! 4.5 miles on the elliptical this morning. Yesterday I went for a long walk in the park and ended up nearly up to my knee in icy water:blush: Had to cut it a little short.

I've really enjoyed reading through everyone's introductions. Even some Buzz Team Members from last year I learned new things about. Thanks to everyone for sharing your journey:thumbsup2

As for me, I just turned 25 and live in the Philadelphia area. I'm currently working as a Civil Engineer designing roads and drainage systems. I signed up for the '09 Disney Half Marathon on a whim on 2/29 last year (thanks to leap year, that's the only reason I remember that) and started training with the Couch to 5k program the next day. Last year was quite a journey and Marathon Weekend was a blast!

This year I have my sights set on the Disney Marathon. After following a fairly strict half marathon training schedule, I'm trying to enjoy myself right now and experiment with some different types of exercise. So far I've attended a yoga (ouch!) and abs class at the gym and have started doing some weight training. I think these things will help to make me a stronger run/walker. Once the weather warms up I'm also planning to get on my bike as often as possible. My boyfriend is very into cycling and does long charity rides a few times a month in the summer. It would be nice to join him every once in awhile.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next year. Hope everyone has a great week:)

Just peeked at the "Draft Board" and noticed we have 2 more new members -- matty204 and Millenium Mickey. party:

I'm a newbie here, too, and I think the support and friendship are gonna be great! From what I can tell, we're at all different levels of experience/performance. I am definitely no speedster myself:snail: , but I feel like an athlete for the first time in my life...

WELCOME!

Yep added them to the main page earlier. I am a very slow runner when it comes to long distances. My family teases me all the time about it, but they know at least I'm out there. The races make all this work worth it for me.

I hope you have a great time with us. WISH is a great place to be!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the kind words bubba73! Jim and I enjoyed meeting you! That is really what WISH and our teams are all about - supporting each other along the way.

Since I've gotten back from WDW I've been focusing on eating healthier and limiting portions (my downfall!). So far, so good! I'm down a few pounds and eating a lot better. DD Sarah and I each cook on Sunday afternoons, divvy up the food into individual size servings and then swap between us. It's only been a couple of weeks but seems to be going well. We've also started attending an aqua-fitness class at a local healthclub. Lord Almighty - I am cross-training; something that I've never done consistently. There's a yoga class I'd like to take, but it is up against LOST, and just can't miss. Yes, I know I could record it, but it just wouldn't be the same!! Maybe once the season is over I can look at what else is available.

I've got 60 minutes on my TM scheduled a little later during 24. I don't watch a lot of TV, but my youngest son got me started on 24 and my oldest got me started with LOST.

Have a great evening everyone.

Pat --

I'm also trying to get better at cross training this year. The things I like the most (zumba, kickboxing) are just too hard on my body to do all the time. The things I need to do (yoga, pilates), I just don't have the patience for. Today I tried a new class at the Y called "cross training." That was vague enough to suck me in to see what it entailed! Well, I'm pretty sure this was "athletic conditioning" or "boot camp" with a new name. When a saw more than a handful of men in there wearing underarmour, I knew I was in trouble :confused3 Actually, there were parts of the class I enjoyed -- I just have no interest in running suicides or football-type drills. I don't need explosive speed. We did a couple of interesting and torturous things with gliders (they look like floppy little frisbees; new to me). We put our forearms on gliders on the floor and slid across the gym with our legs lunged out behind us. I doubt that description does it justice, but it kills the quads!

Anyway, another hour to add to my total, and I'll betcha I have some sore muscles tomorrow!

Chris:

Just so that I am clear (and that is funny in so many ways. :rotfl2: ), I just report my miles, and minutes (actually hours) at the end of the month, right?

I'm redoing my spreadsheet, so I want to have it all straight, so it is easy to get the numbers you need.

I had it set up weekly last year, so now I will need to do it monthly. And you know I'm not the bestest with numbers. ;)

Hence why I am so thankful that you are our numbers guru. :teacher: :thanks:

Allie - If you could give me a grand total at the end of the month that would be cool. You can report them each week or really whenever you want to so long as you give me a total at the end of the month. I think Dave suggested people keep track of their totals in their signature, but really however you want to keep track is cool with me.

So far I've done 2 4 milers. One on the treadmill and one outside.

That image cracked me up. I am being forced into cross-training too. My Achilles is still bothering me and the PT says I need to do something other than just walking all the time -- swimming (yuck!), elliptical, stairclimber, cycling, something. So I gotta get on it.

Wendy: I feel for you with Achilles' problems -- it's such a stubborn injury! I had PT last summer that eventually helped mine. So far, using the Pro Stretch every day and getting lots of calf massages from my DH seem to have kept it from coming back. I do have orthotics, too.

Have you ever had your calf "scraped" at PT? You will know it if you have. It's the same principle as "the stick," but they run a hard plastic comb-like thing up and down your calf to break up the scar tissue and hot spots. YIKES!

If it will help you justify avoiding the pool (boy, do I hate it, too!), I just read somewhere that swimming is not the best thing for tight calves. I can't find the reference or I'd post the link. But I swear I saw it!

Chiming in here about crosstraining.I am one of those odd ducks that likes too crosstrain. When it is warm out I love to go for a run then bike those same miles, come in stretch and do abs.

We are in an Artic freeze around here so I bought a Pilates dvd. This is were I lose it.I don't know what it is but I can't get the hang of it.Does it get easier as you go- I feel like the positions they are in sometimes I can't get there.I feel like a rubber band that lost the elastic???

Did 30 minutes on the elliptical today followed by 120 abs.

I hope we can all push each other along this year- looking forward to 2010!

Have a great day everyone,
Linda

Hi team! :wave2: Glad to see everyone again and welcome to those just joining. I was a late joiner to the Buzz team last year myself. I look forward to learning more about everyone this year and getting to know some new people as well.

Right now I am cross training mainly for a tri in May. I'm totally new to biking and swimming. I just got my road bike recently and have started combining my running and swimming. Need to get cracking on my swims soon!

Linda - I have never been able to get the hang of pilates. It just doesn't seem to work for me, and I wish it did, because everyone raves about how good it is!
