Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

I still don't think everyone has stopped by yet. Are you out there? :wave2:

Got 4 miles in on the treadmill last night. Felt good although I really didn't want to do it at all.

Trying to keep my motivation up as I think Disneyland 1/2 is out for sure and my local races well they just are not Disney.

Anywho keep up the great work team! Let's go Buzzies!!!!:cheer2:

Another one working on cross training that struggles with pilates here. It's helping that we keep getting snow and I've been heading to the gym more than running outside. I don't really like running on the treadmill and track, so I've been trying some new things. I really struggle with sticking with any sort of weight training, yoga, or pilates program. I know if I stick with it I'll start enjoying it more. I'm working on it.

I was on the track at the gym this morning for a 50 minute run/walk. The track is 1/13 mile and all those banked turns really bother my legs.

For any of you that train on the treadmill, any advice? Do you use a certain incline to simulate running outside?

Keep up the great work team:cheer2:

Jessica, I tend to keep it pretty flat on the treadmill, but I'm interested to know what others recommend. My favorite place to run is an outdoor dirt track at the Y -- also flat. I don't get a whole lot of hill work, but it's not an issue at the WDW races.

Planning a recumbent bike ride for today, but procastinating!!

Have you ever had your calf "scraped" at PT? You will know it if you have. It's the same principle as "the stick," but they run a hard plastic comb-like thing up and down your calf to break up the scar tissue and hot spots. YIKES!

Debbie, nope somehow I missed that one. They did do something called cross-friction massage that almost made me cry (Originally, I was diagnosed with Achilles bursitus and that type of massage was prescribed.) I will say that though it hurt A LOT when they did it, my heel pain was reduced the next day. That scaping thing sounds like... er... fun. <Not really>

Casey - Good luck with your tri training!

Chris – Bummer about DL!

Jessica – I don’t know how you do it on such a short track. Yuck. When I’m on the TM, I usually keep the incline at 1.0. I read somewhere that doing that helps simulate road running, but it was a long time ago, so I don’t remember where I read it.

Debbie – Calf scraping? Sounds TERRIBLE.

Me - I got a decent run in last night on the TM. I guess I didn't introduce myself on this thread - I popped in on the end of the last one. Basically I'm starting pretty much from scratch again after taking a far-too-extended break from running (major LTO). So I'm using C25K to get my running intervals back up to R4/W1, and we'll see how it goes from there. I'm on week 2 right now.

Hi everyone :wave2:

I didn't realize I was assigned to a team - sorry for the delay...

I'm Lisa and I've been running for ~3 years. My motivation to start running was going Disneyland and run the 1/2 marathon in 2006. Since then, I have run 6 1/2M's, quite a few Disney races, and completed my first marathon (Chicago) last October. I'm currently training for the Princess 1/2 marathon in March.

My work schedule in January is crazy (so no WDW marathon weekend for me - ever ) but I am back on track in February. A typical week for me is 2 days at the gym doing weight training, 2 days on running on the TM, and a long run on the weekend (outside or track depending on weather).

I'm planning on running outside tomorrow. It is supposed to be about 40 in the AM and I can't wait! I am so tired of winter and am ready for spring :flower3:

Welcome Lisa! Glad to have you with the Buzzies this year! :grouphug:

Wendy - I'm still thinking :scratchin and deciding....:teacher: ;)

No pressure, Allie. :)

And welcome, Lisa!!!!!!

And thanks again, Chris, for all the time and effort you put into this team. No Disneyland for me either -- that coast-to-coast traveling just isn't in the budget.

As for me... Today is going to be my first treadmill day since the Goofy. I'm just going to take it easy, warm up my heels with a heating pad, take a nice walk, stretch like mad afterwards -- and see how it goes. My Achilles never hurts bad enough to stop me from walking, I'd just like to get to the point again where it doesn't hurt at all. I'm tired of dealing with it -- and I know you guys are tired of hearing about it. :crazy2:

Wendy -- it's okay, some of us are new and we're not tired of it :rotfl:

YET.

Seriously, I am so sorry b/c I have been through it, and I wish I had the magic answer about what helped. It really did not get better until I stopped PT.

Lisa - welcome to the Buzzies and hope you get some pretty weather today. I don't know how y'all take that cold up north!! However, just hang on and you will soon hear me complaining about the heat :upsidedow

We have friends coming for dinner, so it's cookin' and cleanin' for me today.

Ok, question for you folks.

How long, meaning time, do y'all stretch?

What are the most important stretches for you?

I have this pain in my hip, dull "achy" not sharp pain, and a slight one in my knee, so I feel that I'm not stretching enough, but I can't figure out how to stretch that part of my hip.

Maybe I'm not doing it long enough? :confused3

Lisa- I hope you got the nice weather promised today- we did not and I am bummed! I am a Floridian at heart I think.

Allie- I do stretches with a band and do a count of 25 on each stretch.I can feel it when I have not stretched in a while.I do it before every run.I had sciatica and these stretches actually eliminated it altogether.

PM me and I will try to describe the stretches to you if you want. They do work.

Today I walked for 1 hr., 3.6 miles, with a friend. Not focused on pace just the exercise.

How do you guys highlight the names of the team members when you respond- I am not computer savvy!

Linda

Linda - when you want to highlight something in bold, just take your mouse and drag/highlight it over the text you want bolded and click the B above(which stands for bold). I hope I made sense. :)

Wendy - Sorry to hear you are still experiencing that pain. I hope it gets back to normal for you very soon.

Allie - I'm terrible! I never stretch! So, I'm the wrong one to ask.

I like the idea of posting our miles/minutes monthly. That works very good for me. I've had a great week of training. I ran over 30 miles, biked 21 miles and got in a half mile swim. I like this cross training thing for my triathlon training. I am seeing results in different groups compared to when I was running only.

Have a good weekend all! :beach:

Lisa – Welcome! And congrats on finishing your first full last fall! That rocks.

Wendy – I hope your walk went well today. Do you know how long it will take to recover completely? I can’t imagine how irritating it must be to have to deal with that all the time!

Allie – I usually hold stretches to a count of 30 or so. Sorry to hear that you’re having pain!

Linda – Yay for getting out for a walk with a friend!

Casey – Glad to hear that you had a good training week!

Me - Nothing much to report. My mom and I were going to try to get out for a little walk today, but then we got caught up with some very important shopping. :lmao: At least we got some walking done in the stores, right?

I know we ment to report at the end of the month, but I did my first training day :cheer2:
I did 2.66 miles in 18:22, and that included 8 stop sings!!!!!
Tomorrow I am going to try going around the lake (no stop sings) I just hope I don't end up in it.

Syko,
What is a stop sing?

Casey,
Where is the B for bold? I don't see it.Told you I wasn't good at this :)

Linda

I think Syko meant stop Sign, just a typo. ;)

Click on Post Reply at the bottom or top of the page. When you type your reply, it is in a box, with all the smilies on the right, and there is a B up at the top. Just highlight what you want to BOLD, then click on that B. Then a {B} will be in front of what you typed and a {/B} will be behind what you typed, except it will be these instead []. I couldn't type that or it would have bolded what I said. Hope that helps Linda. :thumbsup2

Thanks Allie. For some reason I do not have that on mine.I just tried it and there is no B and all my smilies are under the box?????

Oh well I just hope people read my posts without the highlights.

Linda

Hello team!

First time outside running today since Disney- I did 3.1 in 32:18,a 10:25 pace. Not great but with 30 mph wind gusts I will take it.Finally some warmth though. It made it to 47 today and some sun. Darn groundhog!!!! I want SPRING NOW!!!!!!

Also took a 5 mile walk with a friend after the run.(45 minutes)

Hope everyone is having a great day,
Linda

Hey Buzz's Brigade,

Got in 9 miles yesterday outside. I was so excited. Of course I had to run on the streets most of the time because the sidewalks still had snow and ice on them, but it was nice out in comparison that is.

Looking at renting points for my Anniversary trip in October. Hoping it works out.

Everyone - Great to see everyone's activity. Keep it up! :thumbsup2

Hey all,
Got in my first run this week today (week ending Sunday). I HATE when that happens. I'm taking a class that's kicking my butt, luckily it is over in June, and I haven't registered for any races until Sept.

Welcome Lisa, we had a nice day today, didn't we? Hope you got out to run! I know this sounds weird but I prefer to run on the treadmill in my basement. I pop in a DVD, put on my wireless head phones, and get lost in a movie. My neighborhood in not very exciting, but my office is on the lake so once it warms up I'm going to hit the lakefront trail.

Allie, I only stretch for a couple of minutes. I do a more dynamic stretching, only holding for a couple of seconds, repeating each 8-10 times. For hips I just grab onto something sturdy (like the treadmill) and lean back (with my feet in close and my rear sticking out) shifting my weight from one side to the other.

I am psyched because I just booked Bay Lake Tower for marathon weekend 2010.
