:confused3 I hope I am not asking a question that has already been asked but I am confused about the "buying" of points. If we buy into the DVC at 200 and decide to buy more how does that work? Would they expire or do we have to use them in a certain time frame or are they ours to keep and that would be a our amount every year? Thanks for all the help.

Short answer

When you buy points you get a USE YEAR (say JUNE) .So every June you get them 200 points to use.You may borrow fromt he next year or bank them from the previous year (limits on this)

Now you pay yearly DUES for those points in addition to the price you pay for the points to buy in.

Now lets say you decide that 200 is not enough you can do a ADD-ON you get the same USE YEAR but you can do an ADD-ON at any resort that has points available for that USE YEAR.

Hope that helps.

So, if I went and purchased a VWL resale with 150 points and later wanted to add points, do I have to find VWL points out there somewhere on the second hand market (in order to book 11 months in advance at VWL) or can I purchase additional points from Disney that are agnostic to the specific resort?

If I purchase 200 points at VWL, am I able to sell back a portion of those points (say 50), or is it all treated as a single block? Thanks!

Once you are DVC member (purchasing a resale makes you a member), you may purchase an add-on directly thru DVC in amounts as small as 25 points at any of the resorts. Add-ons purchased directly thru DVC will have the same Use Year as the master contract. Resales could have any Use Year.

If you wish to sell a contract, the entire contract must be sold, members may not break up a contract into smaller parcels. If you purchase 150 points thru resale and later add-on 25 (or any other amount) points you could sell the 25 points independently of the 150 - or you could sell the 150 and keep the 25. Add-ons are counted as part of the master contract for banking and reservation purposes, but are actually a separate legal entity- even with their own deed. If you start with 150 resale and later add contracts of 25, 50 and 83 - you could sell any (or all) of the 4 contacts as individuals (150, 25, 50 or 83).

Purchases made directly thru DVC will not have any closing costs, but may have a higher up-front cost than most resales. Just do the math before completing any purchase.
