Thinking about investing into DVC. I've had several conversations with the sales team so I pretty much know what is involved. My question is, can you see the contract before the down payment is paid? Thanks

Yes. In fact, you can't pay anything for 14 days (it might be 16 days) until after everything is signed anyway :)

I gave them my credit card number, we worked out a payment plan, and I had the points before I ever received the contract via email. But, I bet you could ask to see it before you pay anything.

Have you also looked at buying resale? There is VERY little benefit to buying directly from Disney at the moment - and buying resale will save you thousands - if not ten of thousands - of dollars.

I have, but I feel in the long run, it would be better to go direct right now for my first buy. Thanks

We received our contracts to read, signed them, returned them, got our points , booked our trip.

To date we've not paid a single penny.

It might well be be different though given we're in the UK. 🤷‍♂️

Would love to know how you did this - pretty sure it's impossible. I don't believe you can even start the process without providing a down payment. At least that was the case with our direct purchase. Maybe there's some bizarre consumer protection law in the UK?

That's fine, but I would have a clear understanding of what's guaranteed - and what's not - with a direct purchase. Many of those benefits your guide is talking up right now are NOT guaranteed in any way - in DVC speak, "benefits come and go". Many new blue card DVC members (like myself) are learning that the hard way right now.

Also, if you're purchasing a direct contract at Riviera, you should have a clear understanding of the resale restrictions.

We're also in the UK but we definitely had to pay before we got any points. I thought the points came through slightly slower because of our 14 day cooling off period? Have you arranged this through a loan company, so they have paid for it but you haven't started making repayments yet? Or are you intending to pay it off directly?

Actually, with the incentives, there is very little difference in price right now and not being able to book Riviera or newer resorts with resale points is huge in my book, as are the other restrictions that come with resale. We have used points for cruises, RCI, etc. When they were the best option for us to use.

I see this comment a lot but anyone can still stay at RIV or new resorts, you would need to rent your points out and rent some RIV in, but to say its a huge factor is over-selling that perk to me.

I have to admit I'm not sure how I did it! I do know that less than 24 hours after posting this I had a call from DVC about payment! 😂

No loan company involved at all and will be paying it off directly. I did say I want the maximum 3 months to pay it all though so I can monitor the exchange rate and make the payment at the best possible time which they agreed.

This is the standard answer and I have to say it’s not as simple. Not everyone wants to get involved in renting points and then paying cash.

So it’s not the same at all. You own direct points and they can be used for a lot of things that resale can not and don’t require someone to do extra work.

Now, for those that could care less about using points at RIV, or other options, it may not be worth it.

But remember, that as more resale points are restricted, the direct points will carry a benefit in the rental market for an owner who needs to rent.

This is not true, at least with a cash purchase. We gave them CC info for a 10% deposit and then called the next day to schedule the remaining payment (split over different cards). In fact everything is due a little over 2 weeks after the contract is signed.

I got both of my direct contracts after giving my guide my cc for down payments. I guess I never really thought about it since you do still get 10 days to cancel and back out of it.
