But What About Us Passholders!?

I'm not DVC, but with only 4 dates and DVC reservations already set so many months ago, this seems a little silly. It's just luck if you were already going to be there one of those days. Maybe I'm feeling cynical this dreary morning, but it looks like something they can list as a perk in their marketing, but few could actually plan around getting it.

Seems fun! Too bad we are not booked.

I imagine in some way that DVC paid for this event. Whether from our dues or some other revenue, I don't know.

Actually I feel like it is more worthwhile than the member meals they have been doing. They have four different dates in four different weeks and all are on Tues or Thurs -- days when people who are staying for a week would be able to catch at least one of them most likely as the most common travel dates are Sat / Sun. I feel that the member meals have been exactly as you say; if you weren't already booked for some random time then tough luck. But this seems to me to have been strategically placed so that if you were already taking a week-long summer vacation to DW (which many members with families do), you have a good chance of having one of these dates fall within your window.

Sadly not us as we will be arriving just after the last one, but seeing that they tried leaves me with a different feeling about it -- for the meals I feel exactly as you described, like it's a perk that benefits only a lucky few who win the date lottery. For this event I feel like it's a continuing event that we just won't happen to be there for, kind of like missing SWW or Flower & Garden, and it doesn't bother me because that's just the way things are at WDW -- they can't run everything all the time.

Yeah I agree. We pay for that AP and I would like some additional value...especially for my Premium Pass.

1) Isn't there enough value in the amount of entries for the price?
2) Don't know what else folks are looking for.
3) After all, it is just a discounted ticket for limitless admissions, no more than that.

Actually not entirely true.:)

Disney itself has always added "extras" like Mickey Monitor and Passholder "Special Events"(2 of my favorites were the Cinderella Castle Suite Passholder Tour and the AIE Pre-Opening Tour").:)

I also love the free "Dumbo/Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights" Passholder lithograph from a few years back.

So,Disney, while definitely not obligated, has ALWAYS "Plussed" the Annual Passes.:)

They don't need to suck in AP holders with offers...they already have us!

Absolutely! People think having an AP entitles them to more than everything else. You already get discounts, a few small perks, oh, and up to unlimited admission to the parks for a year. Having an AP also gives you the right to brag about it on boards like these. Or if you have a Disneyland AP, you are subject to scorn from the "have nots".

I choose not to brag about my Premier Pass, and not to complain when other groups (like DVC) get special perks. I'm thankful for what I get from Disney, and grateful for having the opportunity to enjoy any park, whenever I want to.

Don't you think that's even more true for DVC?

That's kind of why I thought this looked more like marketing sparkle than a true benefit. Yes, they already have existing DVC people locked (and I thought existing DVC visitors booked their stay months ago, so it's luck of the draw whether they'll happen to be there during these Neighborhood Party dates). BUT they get to put it in marketing material for potential new DVC members, who they're obviously trying to lure based on their constant building. Luxury accomodations! Big savings over cash reservations! Perks like DVC exclusive water park hours!

Yep, this is it. It's just something they can use to market more DVCs. And it's probably coming out of DVC fees on top of it. Win-win for Disney (and the folks who happen to be there to go to the events)

Don't you think that's even more true for DVC?

Well, not necessarily. They have them on the lodging, sure, but they still have to get them to the parks so they can spend money in the parks. With a "perk" like this TL party, I do agree that it's mainly a marketing ploy for new DVC sales, and also possibly to generate goodwill with current DVC owners. Ultimately, I don't believe that Disney does anything without a look at the bottom line, so there has to be more motivation behind this other than as a thank you. Maybe they're just trying to offer DVCers an additional summer perk to entice them to make reservations during the slow DVC summer period?

Most likely it is being paid for out of member dues, under member activities. Maybe in response to the Merry Mixers in December, this is a different time of year.

I'm excited about it because we will be there with 8 other DVC people who don't have park tickets right now so it is something we can do for no money since this is a relaxing no stress low money use up our points trip!

Off my cell so I can reply better. :)

Isn't there enough value in owning DVC? What else are we looking for beyond pre-paid villas? After all, that's what it is, no more than that. Right?

Having an AP also gives you the right to brag about it on boards like these.

I think that AP-bragging is in the eyes of the beholder. Not quite sure what you think is braggable about paying the earth for an AP. :)

Well, not necessarily. They have them on the lodging, sure, but they still have to get them to the parks so they can spend money in the parks.

No park days = less cost to Disney, though, especially if the DVC person gets a *discounted* AP. Less infrastructure costs. Constant dues and that big lump sum (or payments and *interest*) they get. :)

An AP holder doesn't have ot stay at the park. They get some discounts in theparks. If you're a FL resident you don't always stay onsite and you have a greatly discounted AP! One year of a FL AP is a teensy amount of money compared to DVC even if the DVC person doesn't hit the parks.

Maybe they're just trying to offer DVCers an additional summer perk to entice them to make reservations during the slow DVC summer period?

For those DVC owners who *already have plans to go*? Or for those locals who can swing by easily? I'm not seeing *extra* money here. :) Too short a notice!

I'm a passholder and don't have a problem with this at all. How neat to experience late night at a water park. We got to do an late emh there once and loved it!

And since we're seriously considering DVC in the next few months, I hope this is a sign of things to come.

I don't get it- people complain when Disney doesn't offer special perks for DVC, then they complain when they do.

I think the OP was saying as an AP, what about special events for them. Not begrudging DVC anything.

I wasn't necessarily referring to the OP. I'm all for more perks for AP's, DVC, on site guests- the more the better! :)
