But Rhett! Where Shall I Go? What Shall I do? Frankly, m'dear... a MAY 2010 PTR

:lmao::rotfl2:

Um, no-- no death certificates OR bodies in my closet. Although when I was in the midst of cleaning it- I had my doubts.

Yeah, I don't know which was more shocking - DS cleaning his house or finding death certificates in the attic!

YAY we're still talking about Disney food! :woohoo:

Okay DTD, we've been to ~

McDonald's - woohoo

Wolfgang Puck Express - very good place to eat! I think we have always enjoyed everything we have gotten here. Been there 3 times. It's a great deal for a CS meal if you are on the DDP because it is a little on the expensive side for CS.

Cook's of Dublin - yuck  I was nauseous the rest of the day after eating here. Everything was very bland. Weird. On the brighter side - they have excellent ice cream cones! :thumbsup2

Earl of Sandwich - ate here once. We didn't really care for it. My sandwich was supposed to be warm, and it was cold. DS's pb&j sandwich was warm. :scared: It was crowded and loud and there was nowhere to sit. This was a few trips ago. I think we are ready to give it another try.

The Boardwalk, we've been to ~

Big River Grille! :lovestruc Love this place. We went there on Jo's recommendation. Which was risky, for those of you who know us know that we don't usually agree on much (but still love each other :goodvibes) :rotfl:! But I knew we were going to be in the BW area one night and decided to try it. It was great! That was 2 trips ago and we went back on the last trip and will probably be back on the next trip! Like JO said, it is a TS place, but does not take ADR's. We have never had a problem getting seated right away.

I guess that's it for my BW dining experience. But after we stay at the BWI in November I'm sure we will have eaten at a lot more places there!

Sorry, I've never tried any of the ones you listed, so I can't give you any opinions. :) At DTD we ate at WP Express, and we really enjoyed it. I'm so bad at remembering what we all had. :guilty: I'm pretty sure I had the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla, I think DD had the Tomato, Basil, and Garlic Spaghetti, and either DH or DS had the Rotisserie Chicken. It was a great value on the DDP as a CS meal.

I'm with you on the topic of seafood. We eat alot of seafood in Louisiana (strange given my screen name - long story! ;)) and we are usually disappointed anytime we order seafood on vacations. But Fulton's sounds like a winner! Actually, most seafood restaurants around here don't even have lobster or king crabs. It's more shrimp, crawfish, crabs, and fish. We have only had lobster at Ruth's Chris steak house. I love it, but it is rare that we ever go there. It's very expensive - probably $200 a couple there would be about right, too. It sounds like your meal was delicious, and a place I would definitely want to try on my next trip!

So these are the places you have already been, right? You're still deciding for your May trip?

Yep- these are the lists of places I have eaten-- I have already made some of my ADR's- and I'll post those once I've gotten the resorts out of the way. I do still have a *couple* of times left to fill for my trip- so I thought it would be fun to get ideas from others where they've eaten and enjoyed.

WPE- it sounds really good- and I think I'd like to try it instead of the cafe next time.

Ruth's Chris- we have one about five minutes from us here and we've only been once. I ate at the one in Maui as well. It is so expensive to go there- the restaurant, I mean.. DH goes a ton with his work- I just always feel bad for spending that much when it isn't a special occasion.:rotfl:

Fulton's is definitely very good- you'd like it if you like King Crab and Lobster. The view is very special as well.

And your screen name-- Knowing you are a LSU fan- I've often wondered about it but didn't wanna seem nosey.

Yeah, I don't know which was more shocking - DS cleaning his house or finding death certificates in the attic!

:lmao: probably both.

Hi Jo,

Good reviews on all these places in DTD.

We also enjoyed EoS. Great fresh food and good sized portions.

Ghiradellis always had a line going out of the door every time we
past by. Would have love to had some ice cream there because we
have always enjoyed it at the original store in San Francisco.

We never got over to the Boardwalk - thanks for sharing your info.

Sea

I'm putting these two together b/c we just don't go to either one too much but we have had good meals at both.

Downtown Disney

Counter Service--

Earl of Sandwich -- A very good place! We've eaten here only once and it was on our last trip. We all had the worst colds ever and all I wanted was the vegetable soup. It was very good. DH got the veg soup and a tuna sandwich- he said it was good. My son got the kids' pizza sandwich- it looked yucky to me but he liked it a lot, my youngest DD got the pb&j and didn't eat it, and my oldest got the Italian sandwich- she liked it a ton. I would like to go back and try the sandwiches for myself.

McDonald's - Ronald's Fun House -- of course-- ;) It's always packed to capacity.

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop -- okay- we haven't really eaten here- we just have to stop in at least once to get our free chocolate.;)

Table Service--

Cap'n Jack's Restaurant -- On one of our first trips with the kids- we stopped in for lunch- had no reservations but they seated us quickly. I rather liked this little place- pretty views. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was good- but very standard. I'd like to try it again sometime; it's not a place you hear a ton about.

Planet Hollywood -- what can I say? It's Planet Hollywood. It's loud, it's touristy, and the food is average for a big price. Not a place I desire to go back to.

Wolfgang Puck Cafe-- We've eaten lunch here twice. The first time was better than the second IMO. But I did have that cold I spoke of earlier the second time around so I only wanted soup. I got the Butternut Squash soup but it was really really really sweet and I didn't care to have dessert in the form of soup in my bowl. DH likes their Califonia Roll but I don't eat tentacly squishy things- so IDK if it's good or not. The Salmon spinach salad is good, so are the cheeseburgers and the crab cakes as well. I'd definitely give this place another chance.

Fulton's Crab House - Worth every penny of the $200 we spent on the two of us.:rotfl: We were on the dining plan that trip, but this restaurant is one of the ones not on it, so it was OOP. Ane did we pay for the out of pocket experience. DH had the clam chowder, I had the crab and lobster bisque. Both were very good. I also had a house salad and DH had the caesar. Again, both were very good. Then we had the Crab cakes- good good good. DH had this: Lobster Narragansett A whole 1¼ lb. Maine lobster, oven roasted, and stuffed with tender shrimp and scallops served with red skin potatoes.
It hung off of both sides of a huge platter. He said it was wonderful. I had the: Alaska King Crab Claws - 1½ lb. of the sweetest, firmest crab meat, served steamed with red skin potatoes Outstanding.
We also ordered the grilled asparagus and potatoes as well. For dessert I had a creme brulee and DH had the chocolate cake.
Now normally I don't eat that much- I felt like I was dying when I left there.:rotfl2: We had to walk around for hours before we felt better.:rotfl2:
I am very very picky about seafood-- I grew up in Charleston SC getting seafood off of the shrimp boats when they came into dock and going crabbing as a child and watching my mom cook them. Seafood was a huge staple in my house growing up. This restaurant was perfect. Nothing we ate was bad. I have heard mixed reviews of it- but I will say that it is one of my top places to dine in WDW. It was made even better by being seated at the very front of the boat- and we were able to watch the sun go down. Very romantic.:lovestruc I would recommend it to anyone who has a date night and wants seafood.

And now for --
Boardwalk:

There's only one place I've eaten there- and that's--

Big River Grille & Brewing Works-- We had ADR's for 50's Prime Time at DHS and just didn't think we could handle it that day-- so we took the boat over to the Boardwalk. It was a really neat surprise- we all liked it a whole bunch. It's a place you don't hear about too often- they don't take ADR's, so I think a lot of people don't think to plan it into their day. I had the salmon- it was very good- and Mark had the Blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich. The kids shared something that is no longer on the menu.
It was a very good meal and I definitely will eat there again in the future.

So that's DTD and the Boardwalk. Thanks for reading!:surfweb:

As always, I'd love to hear your experiences and opinions.:goodvibes

Thanks for your feedback. I forgot that you'd gotten sick after Cookes-- it's such a cute lil' spot too. I'd never eat there now-- okay, maybe some ice cream.

ANd the warm PB at Earl....:rolleyes1:cloud9::rolleyes1

And BRG.... ;) for us to not agree on much we sure are pretty tight.

Hi Sea! Thanks for popping in!

Yes- Ghiradelli's is always packed. You are lucky to get to go to the first one in SF.:goodvibes

How was the dancing at DL Sat night??:goodvibes:goodvibes

I think you'd enjoy the Boardwalk- lots to see and do over there.

How's your day going?
As I mentioned Fulton's was one of our favorites of our whole trip last year and is a must do next round (actually we have it planned twice :cloud9:)
I am excited to hear about Big River Grille & Brewing Works, we have not tried that but it is on deck for our next trip.
Enjoy your afternoon :)

DTD -We have only eaten at Cap 'N' Jacks, this was in Jan 2009 and simply because we needed somewhere sit down on the DDP. I had heard bad reviews of the place, but we gave it a shot. The location is neat, the restaurant was clean, other than a distinct musty smell - which I think is from it being on the water. Now my senses are hypersensitive (I smell, see and, touch and hear things much more accutely than others) but I also am allergic to mold, so as soon as we walked in a feared a sinus infection :scared:- but I was ok, so call me crazy

I ordered the
Spinach & Artichoke Dip - served with tortilla chips $7.49

This was comfort food I needed that day!

Shrimp and Penne Pasta - in a creamy crustacean sauce $18.99

What is creamy crustacean sauce??? :confused:I didn't want to find out the bad way so I switched the order to alfredo sauce no problem.

I loved my dinner here!

DD got the hot dog - it was steamed not grilled - she loves steamed hot dogs so she was happy. I can't remember what the rest of the family got.

Boardwalk -
Spoodles - Breakfast - no longer there. It was ok, I hear Kouzinna is the same right down to the decor :confused3. Service was slow, but I liked the atmosphere.

We went into the Boardwalk Bakery and I really wanted the Mickey Mini Cake, but carrying it around Epcot all day did not appeal to me.

My cousin loved dancing at CPG! Her parents upgraded her pass to premium and she is going to start coming with us more often.

Here is some video of Saturday night with Stompy Jones...Chris dancing with Lauren and Jenny dancing with her dad. Jenny is 11 and is almost as tall as Chris. LOL.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuhmaPhvOn0

Learned something new from my cousin - her sister was one of the live mermaids on the Submarine ride. They would swim along side of the subs and wave at the guests underwater. She also told me that she has a 16mm film transferred to video of our family going together to DL to see our cousin "perform" at the Sub Lagoon. I don't remember any of this, but she is going to find the video for us and some pictures. Very cool!

I am so glad to find somebody who has ordered the kids' pizza sandwich at Earl of Sandwich. My son absolutely loves cheese pizza but hates sandwiches. Can you describe the sandwich to me? We haven't eaten there before but hope to this May IF the pizza sandwich sounds like something Mr. Picky Eater will try.

Hey there

My day is going good!

Yep, Cookes was gross. I don't think we would eat there again. But we will definitely be back for the giant ice cream cones!

Oh, I forgot about all you warm peanut butter eaters out there. Yuck!

Oh, I forgot about all you warm peanut butter eaters out there. Yuck!

:lmao:

I remember this from your trip report and thinking "I put peanut butter on toast all the time..." and not realising others would think it odd. I love it! :thumbsup2 I would not, however, heat peanut butter to have on un-toasted bread. That I could see as being not so yummy...

Don't have a bunch of time right now - but wanted to mention that I've eaten and Raglan Road in DTD and it was good!!

Great reviews for DTD and BW! Fulton's sounds great. Now if I could only have an extra $200 laying around to try it! :rotfl:

We also hit up the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop for free samples on our first trip to WDW. We had just moved to NC from the San Francisco Bay Area and didn't feel an overwhelming feeling to buy anything as it had only been a few months since we had visited the one in SF, but now that it's been a few years, I think we'll be buying some chocolate and hot cocoa mix to take home with us during our next visit!

The only other place we've eaten in DTD was Bongo's Cuban Cafe. DH and I both had never had Cuban food and thought Florida would be a great place to try it. I don't know if I just don't like Cuban food or if this place makes bad Cuban food, but it will be the last time we visit this restaurant. Yuck!

Hey there! My day is going very well- thanks for asking! How are you doing?
Fulton's---:goodvibes Glad you liked it too. I really think it is a good restaurant. I might try to wiggle in a spot for us on the next trip.
BRG- I think it is a hidden gem, really. Good location too.

Thanks for your reviews!

Hi Drakes!
Creamy Crustacean--- sounds not so yumm-o to me. Couldn't they have said a Crustacean cream sauce instead? That wouldn't cause the reader to think they smashed the poor lil crustacean's heads to bits.

Cap'n Jacks does have a .... smell. I remember it now. But the restaurant was clean. I am so not a good one to talk about smells- I love the way swampy things smell. There's something called Pluff Mud- http://www.charlestonwiki.org/Pluff_mud in Charleston and tourists all the time ask what the God awful smell is--- I love it ; it smells like home to me.:lmao: I make DH roll down the windows when we're near the marsh so I can smell it and everyone in the car's always gagging.:rotfl:

Thanks for your reviews! Can't wait to read your TR....popcorn::

Sea
Sea- so glad you guys had so much fun dancing! And OMGosh- you know of course how I've always been so interested in DL-- well- I saw video of the real mermaids not too long ago on youtube or somewhere. Soooooo cool. I remember hearing about them since I was itty bitty- I thought they were indeed "real" and wanted to go see them when I was tiny.:goodvibes Neat that you will get to see a family member do that. How special.:goodvibes

Yikes-- IDK? I was drugged up on cold medicine, LOL. I just remember it was very messy. Mozzarella cheese and sauce, all warm and gooey. When my DS gets home, I'll ask him if he remembers anything about it. He did tell me he liked it a lot and would order it again . I'll let you know.

Hey there

Ooh- when you get back- tell us what you ate at Raglan road! I'm very interested...popcorn::
Oh yeah- and my PB is not the regualr kind- it's the natural kind-- does that make a difference to the non heating Peanut butter eaters out there?

Oooh- the $200 at Fulton's was painful- esp since we were already on the DDP. But I will say it is worth it. They serve lunch as well- maybe you could go then?

DH has eaten at Bongos with coworkers when they went for a sales mtg--- he hated it as well- said it was really truly gross, but I've never been. Thanks for your opinion of it- you're the only other person that's I've heard of that's eaten there.

San Francisco--- I want to go there one day.:cloud9:
Thanks for your feedback!

Warm PB, Cold PB, room temperature PB, Chocolate and PB, PB and banana sandwich, PB and jelly, PB and strawberry jam, whatever I will eat it!!!

Just a spoonful of PB as a snack......... yummmmmy!

Oh, and this trip I discovered the love and joy of the big fat PB cookies at Goofy's!!! My new favorite snack!! OOOOH! WHAT IF I THREW THE PB COOKIE FROM GOOFY'S IN THE MICROWAVE FOR 20 SECONDS AND ATE IT WITH A BIG GLASS OF MILK?!?!!?!?! OH MY GOSH!!!! :yay::yay::yay:

All caught up from the week I missed while I was in the World :lovestruc

For a while there I was getting really hungry reading all the reviews, especially when I saw the words Dole Whip on my screen! :cloud9:

Then warm PB was mention and ruined it.

I teared up reading some of the favorite memories everyone shared. I know I'm late but I'd like to share a few of mine...

Last Jan I stopped for a moment while walking back from Old Port Royale with my cup of tea just to take in the beauty of it all as the sun was just starting to come over the horizon. DH and the kids were walking with me and I just remember how truly content I was at that moment. No picture to share other than the one that's permanently stuck in my head. And that's the only one I need.

And happy belated double digits!!!! Sorry I was late for the party but I made sure to tell Mickey you would see him in May! :woohoo:

I am so the same way- it doesn't matter what the PB is- just give it to me. I find sheer contentment and joy in a Reeses's peanut butter cup- esp if it's a bit melty.:cloud9:

Sorry we ruined your dole whip mement with the warm PB talk.:laughing:

I tell ya what-- there is certainly something about CBR that causes people to see how happy they are.:cloud9: Thanks for sharing your special moment with us. I know that feeling, but I never take the time to really let is soak in while I'm at WDW. Hoping to remedy that this next time around.

Glad you're back safe and sound!

Pluff Mud - I think I need to take a trip to smell that!

Glad I wasn't the only one smelling the smell at Cap N Jacks. We call it "the smell of England" Wet, damp and moldy! Please don't flame me for saying that, my Grannie lives there and the smell reminds me of her...even if it gives me a sinus infection.

I love PB warm as well, we try to find as many baked good recipes that call for PB and make them and eat them warm - that's when they are the best. However I also like a good peanut butter cup fresh from the fridge as well.

I did get my photos downloaded to the computer last night, I think rather than sort them I'll just upload the ones I'll use in my TR and sort later? :confused3 I am new to photobucket as well - I am a complete newbie with TR writing! I want to know how to do hyperlinks etc.

Maybe I can start tonight
