Buy where you want to stay. Renting points to try SSR is a great idea and should help make your decision.

When you go is very important. I am very flexible with my travel dates and I like less crowded periods like September and January. Also I can plan 7 months in advance and I'm good at booking right at 8am at 7 months. So I bought SSR and I'm using points to stay at different resorts. I've booked AKV (value) OK and VGC twice.
For me the big selling point of DVC is to visit a different resort every time. I have yet to find a resort I don't love. I wasn't looking much for my OKW stay, I booked it only because of the two queen beds in the studiom. Instead Ioved it and I would stay there again in a second. To visit different resorts, SSR points are the cheapest.
