Busses at The Fort

IF you are not in time constraint mode, have to be first at RD, etc then definitely use the Disney Transportation. Give it an hour and anything less is great, an hour will almost always be worse case with no more than a few minutes more.

That is my problem. I've spent everyday for the last 18 years commuting near Washington DC, so beating traffic is part of the fabric of my personality. And then I teach all day, so I am constantly managing time. I have to learn to slow down and let the magic happen. Good advice.

Thanks.

Having been a teacher AND a DC area commuter, I understand your pain! All the more reason to immerse yourself in the Disney experience and enjoy the escape time. We seldom move the car from the campsite when at the Fort.

That sounds nice! So, to clarify, if we are nearer to the settlement, taking the yellow to Wilderness Lodge may be a better choice for all the parks, or just certain ones? Are there busses from WL to all four major parks?

Thanks again for the help... I think I like the idea of losing my truck keys for a week. :)

We try to get Loop 100- right next to the Settlement trading post and a very short walk to the Settlement bus stop.

We would generally get on whichever internal bus came first- either one to the Outpost or one to WL. WL buses go to all the parks. If I remember correctly, it may be the same bus that goes from WL and the Fort to some of the parks.

WL has a boat dock to MK like FT Wilderness. My guess is, it is more bus roulette. If you are at the Settlement and the yellow bus shows up first take it to WL. If one of the other ones show up then take that bus.
Just so you know, returning from the park, the bus stops at Wilderness Lodge and then goes onto FT Wilderness (or at least it did that last summer).
I wouldn't worry too much about the whole bus thing. Give it at least an hour and you will be OK. If something really bad happens and say you wanted to be at the park at 9 and you show up at 9:10 it will not be the end of the world. If you an ADR plan to show up at an ADR early anyway (they advise to check in 15 minutes early) and you will be OK.

Thanks all. We have no meals planned so that isn't a worry. My problem is that I am the math nerd, so crunching numbers and figuring out how to get the most for my money is in my blood.

I just have to relax, let the magic happen, and stop worrying about squeaking out an extra minute here or there. I'll ruin the vacation if I second guess everything we do.

Thanks so much.

I think you're already getting in the spirit. Do be aware that if you take the bus from the settlement to the WL that the Epcot and HS buses from the lodge come back to the outpost end of the campground before going to their respective parks - no savings in time or aggravation ! It may save time to the MK. Bus drivers are very nice about answering questions, and you'll soon figure out the system. If you can handle the DC beltway at rush hour , this will be a piece of cake - or a Dole Whip!

This cracks me up. I'm an RN, but I have a Master's in Informatics (looking into PhD programs now) and manage performance improvement and IS at a very large hospital. I thought I was the only one that had spreadsheets that auto calculate mileage, fuel costs towing vs the car, staying at a moderate with free dining vs the Fort, etc, etc, etc... :worship:

But for some crazy reason, all that goes away as soon as I drive onto WDW property. All part of the magic I guess.

I have those same spreadsheets. Every car we buy, every decision we make, every little thing we purchase is beaten to death in the calculator and on paper before we move. Sometimes I hate it but can't stop. :)

And thanks for the bus route info. With our first day being one week from today, I feel the magic coming on!

Staying at FW for first time but scheduled a lunch at WL. Should we walk or take the boat? How far is the walk? We will have a cart but my understanding is that we can't take it to WL.

It is a little under a mile from the Settlement bus stop to the WL entrance. It's a nice walk. Through the trees on a nice path.

The resort boat may be a little faster depending on how you walk and which direction the boat is going. (boat makes stops at WL, Contemporary and FW)

Either way is nice and probably work out to about the same time depending on how fast you walk.

I'd probably walk over and take the boat back... just to mix it up a little.

Do you have bikes? That is our family plan for a trip in July.
