Bush was told levies could break ....

Gasp -- Bush illegally wire tap???? NEVER!!!

OK, how many people died under Clinton's administration, not counting those who died of accidents, suicide, homicide, illness or natural causes? It's still much less than the total number who died due to government failure to react to Katrina, and acts of war (either justified or not).

Personally, I am counting the days until our President's term ends. I don't even think I mind republicans in general as much as I mind Dubya. I can't remember feeling this disgusted with his father.

In regards to 9/11, do you actually believe that in the less than eight months the President was in office before 9/11, he should have been able to figure out what the terrorists were up to and stop them? But wouldn't that have required some sort of illegal wire tapping? You can't blame Bush for 9/11 unless you are willing to give that same blame to the wonderful, honest President that served two terms before him. Look we can all twist crap around to make it look good for our parties, but will you guys be happy when Bush is out of office even if another Republican is elected? Is it just Bush or Republicans in general?

I agree with you. if a meteor struck the earth tomorrow, it would be "Bush's fault!". There is no changing that mind set, and frankly the arguement gets boring. There are a lot of problems with FEMA and at the very lowest levels.
In the south in particular my SIL noticed that there seems to be a lot of cronyism and nepotism at the very lowest ranks. "If you want this, call so and so, he is the only one who has the contract to get this or that". Also, many of those in charge at the county levels were promoted because they were firemen for 25 years and have retired and took the job. They didn't prepare well, do not understand triage and calling for a difibrillator gets the same priority as calling for a generator battery or a bag of ice.

How many people died under Clinton's administration?
If that's your yardstick, you must have a pretty low opinion of Abraham Lincoln and FDR!

we dont have to agree about politics but it is important to keep talking about it. STuff like this is uncalled for sad, rude, and just plain ignorant. I dont always agree with Bush supporters but I ( i can only speak for myself) would not say something so disrespectful and unkind.

Would it not be fair to say that some of the lives lost on 9/11 were due to Clinton's watch?

I don't blame Bush for the Katrina disaster. We had school buses under water in New Orleans that could have easily been used to remove the people out of New Orleans, but politics got in the way. Also, no matter how hard you tried, you were not going to get people to leave if they didn't want to. People in Louisiana are used to riding out hurricanes and many chose to stay where they were. I had family that had to be rescued from their attic because they decided to ride it out. If all able bodied people had evacuated as asked, there would have been far less people needing to be rescued and perhaps less people would have died. But, unfortunately, those people (including my family) chose not to leave and had to be rescued.

I think you are blaming Bush for everything because you hate him so much and not necessarily because he deserves it. I agree that he can be blamed for the war, whether I agree with it or not.

All I'm saying is that Clinton screwed only one civilian. Or at least she's the only one who saved her dress as evidence.

It's everyone in this administration. As long as Dick Cheney or his brother Jeb doesn't replace him, I'll be relieved to see anyone, Donkey or Elephant, in the oval office. I might add, I'm pretty sure you were just as happy to see the back of Clinton's head as I will be to see Bush's.

I haven't read all the post so I'm sure it's been said, but I'm at a loss as to how any of you poofdy brokeback libs could blame Bush for this :confused3
The core of engineers have been talking about this for years and years.
George Sr. knew and did nothing, Bill Clinton knew and did nothing, George W knew and did nothing.
But have a teleconference a couple of days before this tragedy and now it's his fault.

I'm not saying he's a good president (he's not), but you can't blame him for this one.

What would you be saying if Algore was president and he was told two days before it happened

Actually, I voted for Clinton the first go round. I refrained from voting in 1996 since I didn't like any of the options. We got Clinton and I dealt with it. I was happy to see him go because I was happy to have Bush taking his place. But since I didn't like any other option enough to vote for them instead of Clinton, I couldn't really complain about what we got.

Honestly, I don't think Bush can do no wrong. He hasn't done everything exactly how I would have liked, but he is our President and I will take the good with the bad. I don't think I will ever agree with everything the President stands for, no matter who he is. But, I understand that he is only one person and that he is not totally responsible for everything that goes wrong or right with the U.S. Why do people make it out to be that he has more power than he really does? We do have more than one branch of government making decisions, yet it's always the President's fault when people don't like what's going on.

While I totally agree with this Joe, the point for me is that I heard his asministration say they didnt think this would happen. Also he didnt ask a single question in this briefing and you would think he would have. Where is the urgency in this? I dont see any
Ever have a heart attack? Or a stroke? Ever break your leg, your arm, etc.? We all "know" it could happen to any of us, but do we really think it will?

By the way Fergie, the only way you can say that is if you were not in the military. Clinton also screwed the men he sent over to Africa by not giving them the support they needed. He screwed the military over and over.

Exactly the same thing. Sorry if you expected us poofy brokeback liberals  to say something else. Btw, if you have a problem with gays, you can always start your own thread about it.

Considering that my SIL DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) Unit, part of FEMA was deployed and with in range two days prior to Katrina making shore, there was preparation in advance with a lot of aspects of the relief effort and they did not get appropriate credit. My SIL was deployed for 6 weeks. She returned home for 4 days and then was deployed again to Mississippi and on to Texas.

I was wondering were you have been. How are you doing?

Here I am! ;) I am doing fine...so far. Waiting for DH to call. I think I missed his call yesterday. Hopefully, he will get settled and it won't be too long that I will hear from him.

Bringing up the Republican controlled Congress and Senate is opening up another can of worms. Apparantly, according to some, they can do no wrong either, so who exactly is going to take responsibility for our problems?

No - just legal wiretapping. Wiretapping is warranted AND needed to spy on our enemies. Just do it the legal way.

I was very impressed with Rep. Heather Wilson, ( REPULBICAN - NM), speaking on the Bill Maher show (I know - that bastion of left winged bull) about this very issue. How many republican lawmakers are bothered by the way this administration disregards the checks and balances built into our system of government. That the checks and balances are there for a reason. More and more of his party are becoming uncomfortable with his blatant disregard of the way the government is supposed to work.

And yes, for me it is just Bush and his administration. Anybody would be better at this point. And, apparently, I conform to the majority of the nation. Not only does the last poll show his approval rating at the lowest, but for the first time in his two terms, 59% (a majority) of Republicans disapprove.

I agree. It's an attempt to steal energy from unaware people. I feel so sorry for thier family, neighbors, co-workers & Dizers. Most of all I feel sorry for the poster, what a sad life. What are you so afraid of? They could be evil & in that case there is no hope & the ignore mode is the way to go.

I think there might be some reading comprehension problems on this thread. No one is saying that the levees being breached is/was his fault. What people have a problem with is him saying he was unaware that it was a possibility when in fact he was aware. Huge difference folks!

"Neither exercise expected the levees to fail. In an interview Thursday on "Good Morning America," President Bush said, "I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees." He added, "Now we're having to deal with it, and will."
