Bus Line ............

I've only ever stayed at the moderates and the bus service there was always fine but it was so long ago that I've been to Disney it's hard to remeber. Only crowded buses we ever encountered though were coming back to the resort at night but I don't remeber having to stand for to long because people were nice enough to let me and my brothers sit when seats opened up.

Just wanted to share that I take public transit for a living and always have from highschool till now and it's never first come first serve, no one(atleast in the city) respects who was in line first especially teenagers. Older people and adults usually are nice enough that if you push your way in front and they realize you were there first or want to be first they will let you. Taking the trolley home from my school in highschool where the majority of riders were highschool teenagers it was if you didn't push your way on the bus you didn't get a seat or possibly get on at all. So I'm use to these type of senarios and I have to admit I don't remeber ever running into anything quite that bad at Disney World. Though if I had I don't think it would phase me as much as most people since I'm use to this type of behavior, adults are usually more civil though so i'm rather shocked that they would be pushing people to get on the bus, I would expect that from teenagers(no offense to teens but it's been my experience they are more pushy, I'm sure there are some teens not that way) but not adults.

The only place I have ever had a problem with the bus service was ASMo. No one cut, as there was a queue, but waits of an hour and a half to get to the parks at some times was excessive - and not even always at peak times, I'm talking like 1:30 in the afternoon. I'm sure there were many factors involved at the time (third stop so the busses were mostly full, no empty busses sent out, perhaps because they were likely understaffed considering it was supposed to be slow season but they had rebooked a lot of trips affected by the 2004 hurricanes that week a CM said) but I'd never chance staying at that resort again and giving up so much touring time in case a similar thing happened. I'm even loathe to stay at POP because of that experience, but the family overruled me for the next trip . . . .

I don't know - I've stayed there at ASMovies 7 or 8 times, and have never rented a car. The longest wait I had was in May of about 40 minutes, and that was very odd. I think after another 5 minutes, I'd have been inside asking what the heck was going on.

When the buses from Sports and Music are filled, Movies gets their own bus. I don't see how a wait of 90 minutes is even possible. How did noone complain about this?

Unfortunately my dh once jumped the line for the DTD bus to our resort. He was agitated that it was taking so long and was literally jumping up and down until the bus came. I attempted to get him to go to the back of the line but the kind folks, who recognized that he had some sort of a problem, told us to get on the bus. I wish someone had told him to 'go to the back of the line' and maybe he might not think he can do such things again. I try, I really do.:confused3

I have never had a problem with bus service as I enjoy all the folks I meet while waiting. I do wonder why they cannot have some sort of a ticket thing whereby you insert your park ticket or room key to receive a number and can then sit and be comfortable until the bus comes. Disney would then also know how many people they had waiting for each bus and might be able to dispatch them to where they are most needed.

Even a clock that tells how long until the next bus is due would be welcome.

Slightly Goofy who remembers when the Value bus stops were first in line

We just returned last night and the same thing happened to us at our bus stops. We stayed at CSR, there is no specific que line for boarding the buses at the bus stop. For the most part people were considerate. But one time we were standing right in front of the bus door before the driver opened it and a woman and her child walked right up in front of us and got on the bus like we didn't exist. I just looked at my husband and said "we must be invisible" and tried to laugh it off. Honestly though, it happened many times throughout our vacation. For the most part I tried to keep cool about it but I must admit on those days when I was really tired I did come out with some sarcastic remark, just loud enough for them to hear me. Looking back I realize it's not the most mature way to handle it.

My thinking is that the "mature" way to handle it is to actually MAKE a remark that is QUITE loud enough for them to hear... and for the bus driver and anyone else to hear... explaining the "rules of the road" to the infractors... for the benefit of all the others who might otherwise get "cut off" by these cretins in the future.

If good people remain silent, "evil" (in this case, line-cutting) will prevail.

We've never experienced this problem at a Value resort because there are clearly marked places to line up. However, we have had this problem at the Mods and Deluxes, especially at AKL on more than one visit.

We stayed at ASMos in May. We had no problem with the queus as they were definately defined with chains. However, there were two mornings where we had just missed the bus and wanted to get to the park by rope drop. We simply grabbed a cab. From ASMos to AK and MGM. Each time the fare was under $10. We also just missed the bus coming back from DTD. Again we just grabbed a cab for under $10. One night coming back from MK ASMo's line was crazy long so we took the bus to ASSports and walked. It wasn't far and much quicker. If you let yourself be flexible, it really makes the bus situation easier. And our 3 cabs were much cheaper than renting a car and dealing with having to get it and returning it

We had the same problem in May. One time while we were waiting for the bus at MGM, they were loading a person in a wheelchair and this guy just walks right up to the bus, literally cutting a hundred people and sat right down. The bus driver told him to get off but he refused and no one did anything more.

I could care less if you cut me to get on a bus that will obviously not fill up, but if I have been waiting for a bus and then don't get on or have to stand up because of someone's rudeness than I will get angry.

For us the sole selling point for renting a car is leaving a park at the moment we choose and not waiting for the bus .. it works best after parades and fireworks and on real hot days when it can get really dicey to find a seat...

That's nonsense.

True, lines when leaving the parks are long for the Values, but they also have more buses than any other resort.

I've stayed at all the Values, Caribbean Beach and Old Key West. Bus service at the Values is FAR better than the latter mentioned.

It's not nonsense at all. In my 50+ trips to WDW, I've stayed at nearly every hotel and DVC, and the values always had the longest bus lines.

Obviously, time of year and crowd level have the biggest impact on bus lines, so its possible your experience has been different the mine. Still doesn't make it nonsense.

There seem to be three sets of problems discussed here:

1. People blatently cutting in front of an existing or loading line

2. General lack of bus service in a time/place leading to issues, including deliberate or inadvertant line cutting.

3. The lack of a line structure, so there is no preset definition of how people should load.

We stayed at the Beach Club late last year and #3 was annoying at times. Crowds were never that big and the waits were never that long - BUT - in one case, we were among the first 5 people at the stop. When the bus pulled up, there were maybe 40 or 50, enough to fill the bus except, you guessed it, about 5 people. We had to wait for the next bus, another 1/2 hour. All because we weren't pushy enough. When the next bus came, the stop had filled again and I used my 6'4" frame to push on.

Resorts like the Beach Club could solve this with simple pavement markings for both the people standing in line and where the bus will stop. It won't solve #1 or #2, but would alleviate much of the #3 issues with the "standing around" style bus stop.

I'm not denying they have the longest bus lines. That's just the way it is - More rooms, more guests = Longest lines.

I'm simply saying that the waits for the Value buses is no worse than at other resorts. In fact, it's on average, less. In other words, if there's 5x as many people waiting for a Pop Century bus than a Coronado Springs, you'll see 5 PC buses for every 1 CS bus. The line may be longer, but the wait isn't.

I understand your point, and while theoretically more buses should offset the longer lines, but in my eperience they don't. I absolutely hate waiting for buses so I always observe the lines around me while I'm at the bus stops. I consistently see the people at the values waiting longer.

Fortunately for you, your experience has been different. But we'll have to agree to disagree.

Next time I'm at WDW, I'll be ready with a stopwatch and notepad to record wait times. I'll report back with the results. :)

You should have stood in line with everyone else and, if the bus filled before you got on, let him wait for you at the destination.

Even a clock that tells how long until the next bus is due would be welcome.
I wish there was such a clock inside the park so I could time my walk out the turnstiles. OT: I wish that subway stations would have some kind of light or indicator outside telling when the train is arriving so I would know whether or not to walk or run down the stairs.
