I was in an accident on December 8th, 2005. In February, I received a Certificate of Compliance notice from the State of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. My insurance agent filled out the notice (showing that I was insured on the date of the accident) and returned it to the State on February 16 and I go on with life. :cool1:

Over the weekend I get a notice from the State of Indiana that my license has been suspended due to no insurance on the date of the accident. This morning I call the State of Indiana and they inform me that they have all of my information for a 2000 Lexus - BUT, the police officer at the scene of the accident wrote on the police report that I was driving a 2005 Lexus - which as far as the State of Indiana is concerned is not an insured vehicle.

Now, I'm insured on a 2000 Lexus and I'm registered on a 2000 Lexus - so the State is "trying" to get a supervisor to overide the suspension and make me legal again. :headache:

Sounds like an episode of "The Twilight Zone" to me. One would THINK that the state could check their OWN RECORDS :rolleyes2 and could tell from their OWN RECORDS that you ave never owned a 2005 LEXUS !!!

my sympathies - best of luck,
agnes!

Don't you just love our BMV's. And in case you didn't already know it, when you go to renew your license is now good for 5 years instead of 4 and it'll cost you 20ish instead of 12.00. It was less then 25.00 but more than 20.00.

I had to renew mine in Dec and DH renewed his in Feb. Before he went, he asked me how much it was going to cost. Told him what I paid. Gave me a bunch of grief over my memory loss in 2 months. We finally figured it out what the difference was. Oh, and pray to the great BMV gods that you don't have to actually go to a location to get resolution. It took me 2.5 hrs to renew in Dec and 1.75 hrs for DH in Feb.

Patty, good luck with all of this. I am impressed that you managed to reach a human with the State of Indiana. You're one up on me anytime that I've dealt with an agency in any state!

We went through this a few months ago. I was stopped by a cop, I hadn't done anything wrong. He asked for my license and registration and insurance. He goes back to his car and then I hear him in the back of my car, he's taking my license plate! He asks me to get out of the car, i'm freaking out at this point. I was then informed my plate was seized and he couldn't tell me why. Ended up having to get a ride home. My husband goes to the DMV the next day and finds out that last June, we had switched from Geico to ESurance. What we didn't know is that for 3 days, we were uninsured. Esurance got the date wrong and didn't start the insurance until 3 days after we told them to which was when Geico stopped coverage. So we had a seize order on our license and our drivers licenses. So we'd been driving illegally for 6 months at this point. I'm surprised though that the cop didn't say anything about my license!! Got it taken care of pretty easily though and got a new tag. LoL, 3 weeks later I get in an accident and the van is totalled... ironic?
