Bumped - have $1600 in Delta Dollars - Now What?

This is the question to those with similar experience and knowledge.

My family and I were bumped twice and given Delta Dollar vouchers worth $1600.00. How do we use them? Can we still use Expedia or Travelocity to book cheap fares with Delta and then use the dollars or do we have to book directly with Delta and get their expensive fares.

Delta has many different types of vouchers. If they are assigned a voucher number you may be able to use it over the phone with Delta.. if not, you may have to present it at a Delta ticket office. My guess is no Expedia. I'm sure you'll get a great trip from your vouchers either way - just keep watching Delta's fares.

First of all, you don't necessarily get cheaper rates from Expedia or Travelocity than you will from Delta directly. It's not like they are discounters, although sometimes they have negotiated good specials. I've generally gotten no better rates on either of those sites than from the airline itself.

Most important though, is that those vouchers come with rules, and the only place to get a credible, authoritative answer about them is from Delta itself. While all of us on this board would love to help you, we could potentially give you incorrect answers that might adversely affect your use of them.

I have gotten these A LOT. You have to book with Delta and unless things have changed over the phone or at the airport. (They used to not accept them on the web) Sounds like you did good!

You need to send them to me ASAP, so I can check their authenticy and so I can use them!!
Just check for airfare on your fav website and then call Delta direct. You may need to take them to a city ticket office or to Delta's counter at the airport.

I've been bumped many times on Delta and to redeem the vouchers you need to call Delta directly and then present the vouchers before the end of the next day or they will cancel the reservation. You cannot even redeem them by booking online. I hope this helps.

I have a question about vouchers too. We have 2 $125 vouchers that need to be used by early Dec '03. We don't have a trip planned between now and then, my question is can I buy tickets for next summer with these vouchers before they expire or must I travel before they expire?

You normally just have to buy the tickets before the expire. And you can buy up to 330 days in advance.

Last time I used the vouchers, you could use them over the phone. They has a # on them that you gave to the reservation person. Then they just mail your e tickets to you.

congratulations!! We have had some great trips on vouchers! In my experience, the delta website fares have always been cheaper and more convenient than orbitz or expedia, but we also live in a section of the country where there are not a lot of choices. I have been successful once getting Delta on the telephone to accept a Web fare - go ahead and try!!
