Buffy/Angel/Firefly Fan Thread

Due in part to advice of DISers, I bought and read issue 5 and issue 6 of the Season 8 comics. (I've read synopses of the others) I'm not a comics person at all, and reading those comics makes me want Joss Whedon to stop writing them and make more TV shows. I liked them, but they were just okay. Nothing spectacular.

Speaking of Joss and TV, did anyone know there's going to be a TV movie about Giles on the BBC? I don't think it will air until at least next year.

Belle Amy I love your pics! They are awesome! Sounds like you're doing your part in influencing everyone! We gave everyone Firefly sets for Christmas gifts last year too!

I finally picked up Buffy Omnibus Volume 2 and I'm liking it so far.

I'm at home with a sick baby - you know what that means! Either an Angel or Firefly marathon will be taking place at my house!

I loved BtVS and miss it more than any other show I've ever seen. I have all seven seasons, but I have a hard time watching the last season because I know everything is coming to an end and it all seems so dark. Plus, Anya's death hit me harder than any other. Why couldn't they kill off Dawn instead? Oh, that's right, because then Buffy would lose her will to live. :sad2:

I signed up to be a browncoat before I saw a single episode of Firefly, b/c I was such a huge Joss fan. No idea how I missed Firefly when it ran. I actually had never heard of it until I checked imdb to find out what Whedon had been up to and saw the beginning and ending dates of a show I had never seen. "Whoa. When did that happen?" was all I could think.

I saw Serenity and loved it, personally, then bought Firefly on DVD. I've watched most of the episodes, but I (obviously) have a little problem saying goodbye to shows I love, so I haven't watched the last few episodes ... because then I'll never have a new episode to look forward to! Plus, I wasn't super attached to, um, a certain leaf on the wind during the movie (although I did think that leaf was funny and cute), but after seeing some of the show, I can't stand to think of what happens to that character in the movie, and the more episodes I watch, the more attached I get to the person and the sadder I become when I think of how it all ended. It's a vicious cycle.

Wow, it's hard to write spoiler-free info.

I hope your baby feels better, but yay marathoning! Why no Buffy?

I rewatched the Firefly episode "Safe" a few days ago, and I noticed/remembered so many awesome things!

First off, this was the one where the crew had to land on an outskirt planet to sell the cattle on the ship as a mission for Badger. It has some of the all-time best quotes, such as:
Mal: And what does that make us?
Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir!

Jayne(going through Simon's things, picking up his diary): Dear Diary: Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Dear Diary: Today we were kidnapped by hillfolk, never to be seen again. Best day ever.

Apart from the quotes, I noticed during the credits that the young version of Simon in the flashback was played by Zac Efron. I went back and watched that part again, but I never would have recognized him. Isn't it sad that he's probably the most widely known person to appear on that show? He did do a very good job as KidSimon, as did that little girl who played KidRiver. For the record, I haven't actually seen HSM.

Wow I never realized that! That is just.... neat!

I haven't seen any of the HSM's either, even though dd owns the first one on dvd....

You really should bring yourself to watch the rest of Firefly. "Objects in Space" is the last episode, but it's one of my favorites. One of my 14 favorites, anyway. :lmao: Joss Whedon needs to stop making comics and get back to TV! In an interview, Whedon said his wife refers to his current work as his "Merry Marvel Mid-Life Crisis." I think that sums it up perfectly. And I agree with you, watching the leaf is very hard after seeing the movie, especially when the leaf is the main part of an episode. Firefly makes me so sad sometimes! But it's a happy kind of sad.

Yeah, there's a whole new demographic we can convert to the show now! "Hello Zac Efron fan, wanna see him in a show even cooler than HSM?"

Oh my GAWD!!! Where have you people been these past few years?!?!! I have had no one who understands how much I LOVE these shows to talk to. (Even my DH, who is secretly hooked, thinks I am crazy!) Most people don't even know how big a fan I am because I got tired of explaining that "those vampire shows" are more than just that. I miss these characters so much and here ya'll are on the DIS chit chatting about my most favorite shows in the whole world EVER!!:goodvibes This is the best thread!! Thanks for starting it!

Now about Firefly.......I am not sure what this show is all about. I never even wanted to know because I absolutly HATED Caleb (especially after what happened to poor Xander) so I just left it at that. So Firefly/ Serenity fans............am I really missing out? I guess I could check it out to be fair. My first love was Buffy so I am partial to that show even though Angel runs a close second. (I also dispised :crazy2: the whole Conner/Cordy story line so that may be why Buffy will always be a bit ahead in my opinion.) I started watching from the very first air date and own all 7 seasons of Buffy and 5 seasons of Angel and both have been watched and rewatched several times. I just can't see any other show (even if it was done by Joss) coming close.

Anyway, I am so glad to see some fellow Buffy/Angel fans on here......I hope this thread keeps going because I just found ya'll!!:yay:

Now about Firefly.......I am not sure what this show is all about.

The basic premise is "space cowboys", in the same way that Buffy is "that vampire show". Maybe "space pirate cowboys".

You really owe it to yourself to check it out... I'm not a Buffy fan, so I can't compare, but Mal (Caleb) is wonderful. All the characters are great, but Mal is my personal all-around fave. Though it's hard to pick when I adore all the other characters so much.

am I really missing out?

A world full of yes.

Buffy was my intro into the Whedon verse, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart, but Firefly took everything that Joss knew about creating character dynamics, mixed with humorous dialog, and an insanely original plot and made it better. It's just sad that Fox didn't give it the chance it deserved because it is the complete package....If you are a Joss fan, you can't help but love the dialog and witty puns, let alone the fact that they are given by some of the most amazing, and underrated actors that have EVER graced television. I'm just a bit of a fan, but for someone that already loves Buffyverse, it will make you even more of a Joss lover...I promise!!!

Firefly was when Joss Whedon really hit his stride as a TV writer/creator. I could say a bunch of other things, too, but other posters have already filled you in, madcam. The "cowboys in space" description is an accurate one, but it always makes me think of that song (I don't know the title) where the guy says, "Some people call me a space cowboy....." Does that happen to anybody else? If you're nervous because you hated Caleb, don't be. Mal is awesome. and so is Zoe. And Wash. And River. And everybody.

Ok people......I am going to try it. I love the writing on Joss' shows. Kinda looking at it as like the first time I tried sushi. People told me it was really good and even though I knew what I was getting into and was really unsure about the whole thing, I tried it anyway because I love asian food. Well now I am a huge sushi fan (even though I don't count the first time I had it as great because I bought it at Super Target.....bad idea:eek: ) I will let you know how it goes. DH is going out of town tomorrow for a week so I will need something to keep me busy in the evenings. I could catch up on house work.........nah!:)

You really summed it up perfectly! I can't really add any more to what the others have already said, other than YES! Check them out! And report back to us when you've finished them. After the series, go ahead and rent Serenity too.

River was also the lead dancer in on Angel epsiode
Yep, "Waiting in the Wings." Chronologically, that was before Firefly, and that's how she ended up getting the job as River. I think Joss likes to hire dancers.

Yay! I like your sushi analogy. Keep us updated as you watch the episodes! I can't wait to see what you think.

Thank you! I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was called!
