budget remedy for plantar warts

those of you not into the duct tape, i had luck with using moleskin. place the moleskin on the wart, then every few days the wart will have moved closer to the surface & part of the wart will be removed. if you have a stubborn wart that doesn't stick to the moleskin, scrape off the raised part with a glass foot file. i wouldn't suggest using a pumice, because you're probably just reinfecting the pumice with the wart virus. & they are super hard to clean because they're so porous.

Wow, that's smart thinking. Hadn't even thought about that!

I don't think I know what moleskin is or where you buy it.

Is anyone that used the vinegar treatment still watching this thread? I've been doing some research online and have some info and some questions.

Info first. The black things people are calling seeds or seedy things are actually blood vessels. I'm not sure which of these is grosser!

Other info. It turns out I have mosaic warts which are plantars (foot) warts now growing in a cluster. Ooooo ... a party.

Questions. Did any of you have more than one wart in a group. And the vinegar worked?

When people are saying that it "turned black" do you mean you saw the seedy things/blood vessels or that all the skin turned black?

By the way, my husband is so into this gross process. It's a little disturbing.:scratchin

okay, I have been putting white vinegar on mine for 2 days now. The wart at the bottom of my foot. I started with the banana peel first which left it red and not crusty "think of a soft blister with red inside" then I started putting white vinegar and so far it stings, the outer circle lining is kinda white n puffy and inside is still red with a soft crust on top with no black thingi in sight. Gross right:scared1: but I dunno if I should continue the vinegar. I had this wart for 3 years now but it was always covered with a hard crust before.

I read somewhere that the area should not be moist but it has to stay moist right? due to the vinegar.:scared:

I used the vinegar for about a week on a cluster of warts on my heel which I have had for 35 years (yes, 35 years). I've tried everything but laser in the past without success. The vinegar appeared to be working, but I decided to try Compound W (which had never worked previously) during the day and then use the vinegar at night. Huge mistake, at least for me. While the warts turned black and appeared to be rising from the skin, the pain was excruciating. My foot would throb, and my warts felt like they were being pulled out of my skin and then back in with every heartbeat. I didn't sleep for two nights as a result and I limped for three days. I stopped cold turkey on both the vinegar and Compound W last week. I'm going to restart the vinegar tomorrow, as I think that will work and it was not painful for me. I just can't do that in conjunction with Compound W, although I know that has worked for other people without these sorts of side effects.

DD's whole warty thingy turned black in the middle. (like dirty calloused skin) It pulled away from the sides and eventually fell out during the day or in the bath/ shower. It was kinda like a drying scab. She had a cluster of 4 there and I checked her foot last night and they were all gone. Nothing left of them! Its hard to explain, I wish I had taken some pics to post, gross I know but I am a visual person so its hard to explain.

That's what my son's looks like. It hasn't come off yet, but hopefully soon.

Just curious, is your daughter's a regular wart or a plantar wart on her foot?

I am going to guess plantars, we didnt take her to the doc but tried to fix it ourselves. Vinegar was much less than the $25 co-pay for the doc.

i never went back to this thread after posting, sorry!

you can find moleskin with the footcare. it's a soft fabric-y square (you get about 4 to a pack) that has a super sticky backing. it's flesh colored & you just cut it to size with scissors. you can use them for a variety of foot issues, so we always have some around. you can put them over blisters so they won't get more irritated. the moleskin stays on so much better than a bandaid but doesn't hurt the tender skin that is on your foot like duct tape might.

we always make sure to bring a square to disney for those just in case moments regarding blisters. so it's worth it for us to have some laying around.

i had some issues with reoccurring plantars warts since i was a kid. i've only had them 3 separate times, the last time i had 2. i usually get them on my big toe. it's pretty icky. the first time i had one, i was about 12, and i remember it being there, but i never said anything about it, then at the end of summer one day it turned black, then like a week later i had a divet in my foot the size of the wart, but no wart to be found. i never treated it.

the second time i had them, i went to a podiatrist. he did the moleskin method with me, & every other week i would go in & have whatever layer had moved to the surface scraped off with a scalpel. it hurt a bit, but it was doing the job. the doctor told me that has seen entire footbeds being infected. hundreds of them on one foot! he froze them off, only for them to happen again. it's a very stubborn virus!

the 3rd & most recent time was about 3 years ago. i just went & had them frozen off & OMG the pain! i couldn't walk right for 2 days. it was terrible. i don't recommend freezing them off at all, because it's sooooo painful.

I developed two plantar warts on my big toe back in September. At first it was just a raised bump and and kind of annoying. Then it got to the point that it hurt to wear flip flops ( I live in flip flops so this is a problem). It got worse and worse over the past few months and it hurt REALLY BAD to even touch it. I was about ready to make an appt. at the foot dr. when DH's grandma told me of a home remedy with vinegar. I took cotton balls and drenched them in vinegar, wrapped it around my toe, and covered with medical tape. I slept with it on my foot every night for 4 nights. It turned black and within a week it peeled off and you cannot tell was even there, nor does it hurt anymore. Just in time for FLIP FLOP SEASON!!!!:)

Just thought I would share in case anyone has them!!

i started to read this thread ..as I know people with problem warts ..

but I am a bit confused... is it the duct tape that cured the problem or is it the vinegar... initially I thought it was the vinegar.. but now everyone is swearing by the duct tape !!! do I have to use the duct tape ??or is vinegar enough ??
thanks !

I had a wart on my toe which I used the discs, Compound W, home freezing, freezing at the Dr.(hurts terribly and will NEVER do it again) and NONE worked. They all started off strong, but there was never any change. After reading here about the vinegar, I thought what the heck. It has been 4 weks and the whole thing just finally fell off. I see clear skin again!

Little DS also has them on his foot (on 2 toes and on the botrom). We are going to try this with him too. I hope we get the same results.

Anyone else feel like making an infomercial. We can bottle vinegar, sell it as miracle cure for warts and finance our WDW trips? :rotfl2: There could be millions to be made, I would even throw in a roll of duct tape for a backup cure. A night/day program....:rotfl2:

I used both, but it appeared to me that it was the vinegar which did the job. I could feel tingling, but not pain, as it worked.

In reading all of the posts, it doesn't seem to matter which kind of vinegar to use. Is this correct? Some of you used cider vinegar, some used white, while I read at leat one of you used rice vinegar. Anyone used more than one, and if so, could you detect any differences?
Thanks.

I have a different remedy. When I was in high school, I had a planters wart on the bottom of my foot. I got stung by a bee (I'm allergic to bees), when the swelling in my foot went down after a couple of days, the wart was gone.

The poison from the sting must have killed the wart. I always thought that was pretty cool.

I used to get warts on my one knee. I tried Compound W and went to the doctor. He froze the wart (which caused a very painful blister). The wart died and then came back with a friend. Over time I finally had 5 warts on that knee. When I was pregnant they all died and fell off. :confused3 They never came back. So my cure is to get pregnant. :rotfl:

I think I'll try the vinegar on DD's foot. She's had a wart frozen and it disappeared just to come back. Now I think she has 4. Sound familiar? But she's 17, so I'm not suggesting my cure. Maybe if the vinegar doesn't work we can try a banana. Duct tape didn't touch it.

This is actually a good example of stimulating your body's own immune system to fight off other germs/bacteria/viruses. The bee sting did not "kill" the wart, but triggered your body's own defenses in a localized attack on the wart...

They're using a similar technique right now at a local dermatologists to get rid of molluscan warts-they can multiply incredibly fast on children and literally cover large parts of their bodies because kids' immune systems do not recognize the wart as a foreign body.

What they're doing is using an extract from a beetle on the warts-it provokes an immune response to the beetle "juice" and because the warts are in the same location as the beetle extract the body attacks them as well. Pretty cool stuff!

My DD used the vinegar one night and said it burned so bad she refuses to try it again. Did anyone elses burn like that? It is black so does that mean it was working?
