budget remedy for plantar warts

I've got one too....a cure that is.... a banana peel....just cut a piece of banana peel the size of your wart or a little bigger and then place it with the inside of the peel on the wart and then put a bandaid on to hold it in place. I did this 24-hours a day for about a week and my wart was gone. The banana peel will turn black as will your wart. Once the banana peel turns completely black it is time to put a new one on. I think I changed mine at in the morning and before bed. I am not sure what it is but something in the peel sucks the wart out of your foot?! Enjoy!:cool1:

My Doctor also recommended Duct tape when cryotherapy doesn't work.

As reported by the Mayo Clinic:

"In a well-publicized 2002 study, duct tape wiped out more warts than freezing (cryotherapy) did. Study participants who used "duct tape therapy" covered their warts in duct tape for six days, then soaked their warts in water, and gently rubbed warts with an emery board or pumice stone. They repeated this process for up to two months or until their warts went away. Researchers hypothesize that this unconventional therapy may work by irritating warts and the surrounding skin, prompting the body's immune system to attack. Today, duct tape is commonly used to treat warts, especially for children who may find freezing painful or scary. It's often combined with salicylic acid."

I dont mean to sound not so bright but DD has one, how do I know its really gone? I used a dr scholls pad on it for 2 weeks and then the skin spot fell off but I can still see the circle of the wart.

Will it just die off now or how do I know its gone? Do they turn black and then they are gone? I told her after this we will just try the duct tape (or now the vinegar?) Dh and I have never had them so we dont have a clue. Thanks!

Do you see little black seedy looking things where the wart is/was? You gotta get them outta there and then it should heal up.

We used an OTC wart remover on a stubborn one on dd's finger. After a week or so, the top skin came off and we dug out the black things in it. It healed up in a few days and never came back.

My son's dermatologist recommended the duct tape method. We're just about to try it on his finger.

The biggest problem we have is that my son keeps getting a wart on the tip of his nose! Has anybody heard of that? The doctor said not to do the duct tape on his nose, that he'd have to freeze it, but my son had it done once and he's now petrified to go back. Any other suggestions that would be doable on a child's nose?

I'll try this tonight. Goodness knows, I've tried everything else, including surgery (so painful) and having it shot with a laser (OUCH!):sad2:

i had what i thought was a plantar wart, used the "freeze stuff", as well as (literally) every other OTC medicine, & then all the home remedies i could find on the web.
after about a year (yes, i limped in pain for a year:rolleyes: ) i went to a podiatrist who initially tried 1x week for a few months to get through the layers. finally, he resorted to using a laser, and every week would cut a nice size hole in my foot deeper (YEEE-OWZA ~ that was soooooo painful :sad1: ).
after about 6 months, i switched podiatrists: new doc said the pain was actually a growth on the bone, that was progressively growing larger (he said it was "like a plantar wart" except much deeper. i'm not exactly sure what "like" meant tho:confused3 ).
he put some brown stuff on the area, i went back about 10 times, & VIOLA!! it hasn't come back in about 5 years.
moral of the story ;): if you're still in discomfort and/or pain, try a different doctor.
hope you feel better!

laurie s :)

The duct tape WORKS....but it took many weeks/months for it to work for us. We duct-taped an apple cider vinegar-soaked cotton ball to the foot nightly and in the daytime - placed only a piece of duct tape over the area. Daily rub with emory board (or cuticle scraper) and black spots will come to the top. Pick them out and it's better. (my daughter had no success with dr freezing 3 times!!!) She loved the duct tape method. A friend who had one removed previously (laid up for 2 weeks afterwards) tried it also on a new one and a HUGE seed came out with the duct tape. (yuck)

Another good thing is banana peels. My other daugher had a wart on her finger and the otc freezing meds didn't do anything. We wrapped a small banana peel around it ONCE with a bandaid and it fell off 2 days later - no scar - nothing!

If you can stand the grossness of having a banana peel taped (with duct tape) to your foot (plantar's wart) while you sleep at night, go for it. It really works.

Thanks!!!!! I didnt want to put her thru alot if it was already gone but we will keep at it untill we get that out.

Just subscribing. Been using the OTC acid stuff for months. Plantar wart on bottom foot peels and fades but never completely disappears.

make sure you dig those black seedy things out of there.

So how do you dig the black seedy things out? And, no matter what you use, it sounds painful. Yikes!::scared:

I can vouch for the duct tape cure. I had a stubborn plantars wart for two years - I even had it burnt off (ouch- don't try this! it hurt like heck!). I tried the OTC meds, nothing. So, I tried the duct tape because I had nothing to lose. And guess what? It worked! I kept really good duct tape on for two weeks. It didn't hurt a bit. I had to chage the tape sometimes due to showering/etc (it would come off). I was really skeptical, but now I am a believer! You have to make sure that all the little dots are gone (they look like little red or brown pin dots - I mean very tiny!). My foot healed over, and now no more ugly wart!

To get the black virus part out I recommend soaking and scraping with a pumice stone or foot filer. (found in mani/pedi kits) Do this everyday and it may take awhile.
As for the duct tape, DH had a wart for 3 years. 2 years we tried OTC remidies to no avail. 3rd year we tried duct tape for about 4 months. NO HELP with this one! THen we wen to the DR. He couldn't help so we went to the specialist who froze it or whatever with the strongest stuff. THis created a GIANT blister that took 1 month to heal and then still had some "wart" skin left. We did the soaking and the filing and it's finally gone. 3 years I kid you not!!

Don't forget that plantar warts are contageous. Anyone who has one should never be barefoot (even in the shower) to prevent passing them on to others. I have had success with Mediplast sheets. Cut a piece to fit over the wart, stick it on and then put a band aid on top. You change the mediplast every two days. You know the wart is gone when you can see the normal grain of your skin again where the wart was. You need to get way down there. The wart has tendril like things that grow down in to the foot. You need to get it ALL out or it will grow back and spread.

I'm so grossed out and simultaneously fascinated by this thread.

Yah on the contagious part-that was how we caught them, at the community pool. I'm a biiiig fan of water shoes now. We had ours lasered off, and it HUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRTTTTTT!

My dd has a wart on the bottom of her foot - she says it hurts bad. We had it frozen at the dermatologists office 1 month ago and we go back today - if it doesn't work after today's tx then we are off to the hardware store for duck tape!

When my son's had them we were told not to dig out the blackish/brownish roots because a larger infection could set in. We file with an emory board and put on the Compound W. That worked with my oldest son, not my middle one though and certainly not with my dd's wart.

Here's to cheap, home remedies!!!
Thanks everyone for all of the ideas and like the PP I am grossed out but fascinated as well!

I just have to say THANKS to the vinegar suggestion!!!!

I started it on DD on Tue night after her bath. Last night after her bath I went to apply it again and 2 of the 4 had fallen off. The black was gone and her foot was cute pink again. She and I are so excited and grateful for the suggestion!!!!! The other 2 look pretty close to coming off and I am sure they will be gone by Monday but they were a little bigger than the other 2.

Has anybody tried this on what I think are called flat warts? They don't seem to have the black seeds, but they're lots of little flat ones all together in a group.
