Buc-ees coming West... what are it's.....

We will swing into Buc-ee’s on road trips if it’s convenient. I like the huge restrooms and we can get snacks and food for the ride. I know that most schools will make a pit stop there on the way back from games or competitions. The kids love it. Mine gets excited when they plan a Buc-ee’s stop on the way home. I think we have a stuffed Buc-ee somewhere.

Cracker Barrel became the Spirit Airlines of southern cookin…
Why is everyone putting Cracker Barrel down lately. When I traveled from Vermont to Florida I always stopped at Cracker Barrel for a real feeling of home cooked food. Sure canned carrots or beans, but their southern fried chicken has been to die for and truthfully, how many families always have fresh veggie's as often as they have canned. I always looked forward to CB while on the I-95 route down the east coast. Even at home here in Raleigh we have one just about 4 miles from my apartment. I don't go there frequently but I do go now and then.

One of the Cracker Barrels just off I-95 is quite different. In every other one I have been in you enter into to the merchandise shop and the dining room is to the left. This one has the dining room to the right. Threw my equilibrium off the whole while I was there. Different but apparently memorable. The only thing I don't remember is where it is located.

Virtually everything is now just a ho hum prepackaged slate. They’re chipping away the quality.

I'm still upset CB has taken Cherries away as a fruit topping on their French Toast. 😡

It's a totally overhyped & unholy cross between The Pioneer Woman, Hobby Lobby and Cracker Barrel with a traveling carnival. If a Live, Laugh, Love sign was a physical place...It's the new South of the Border.

This just makes me want to go more! Something new to check out as a break on a road trip sounds great.

I just had to go check since we do have a trip in the works in the next few years across I-80. The closest one to our route is in Colorado a full hour south. I don't think we'll be making a two-hour detour to visit a gas station, but I'm disappointed.

It's just a giant gas station. Nothing more.

BUT:
* Fresh food, including fresh brisket.
* Merchandise (quite a bit actually, not all branded)
* Lots of Jerky flavors
* Tons of Snacks

Yup, just like every other gas station. 🤣

FWIW, they have some of the lowest gas prices around me at least...

There are other gas stations with fresh food. Lots of them have a restaurant or an Arby's or some other fast food in them. And to be quite frank Arby's usually has a 2 for 6 going on or sometimes a 4 for 10. One can feed the family for little more than one brisket sandwich at Buc-ees. And from what I hear, Buc ee's is getting hit or miss as to whether you can get your brisket without sauce. And said sauce flirts with mediocrity....From the bottom side. Sure the brisket is better. But it isn't $34 vs $10-12 for 4 better. It's not like you can't find any snacks at a lot of other gas stations. I guess if you just have to have Bohemian garlic jerky, you'll have to go to Buc Eee's. But it's not like one can't survive on the flavors available elsewhere. Better yet, buy em at Costco before you go. Or Aldis. Save ya some money. Oh wait. I forgot. Buc Eee's beaver nuggets have magical unicorn horn dust sprinkled on them and these don't.

My bad.

Again, it's just a big giant glorified gas station albeit with a bigger selection than most. Nothing more. Nothing worth the worship it gets and nothing worth going out of your way for.

It just sounded funny the way your post read.

I agree I wouldn't go out of my way to go to one, but I also wouldn't avoid it.

I don't get the "love" for it, but also don't understand the "hate" either.

Yeah, I mean I don't hate it or anything, but I don't get excited for it. They have some good stuff, and are probably a step above most other gas stations, but it's still a gas station. Sure, I'd go to one if convenient - it can even be kind of fun. I'm just not in the cult of Buc-ees.

Then again, I may be in some other cults that vastly overhype the thing they are devoted to, but, you know.... 😁
