I had to go down to the front desk again this morning since we had a different rate for the last two nights. Basically I had to checnk-out ad check in again. Painless. Took a couple of minutes.
On the way back to my room I noticed a woman dressed very warmly (I was in my usual uniform-Disney t-shirt and shorts). I asked her, "Is it THAT cold outside?" She answered me, "It's 44 degrees out". AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She might as well have said 44 below zero! Okay, so I poked my head out the door by the ppol. Yep, ice! Got back to the room andn quickly changed into cold weather apparel (which I HATE for various reasons). Bad enough that I'd had to wear long pants in the evenings. I called mom to remind her that she also had to re-check-in this morning. I also informed her of the recent anarctic developments. She said she was just too tired to go the parks anyway and was going to hang around the lodge and do some of the lodge activities.
I went over to her room to bring Marcus his clothes (remember he had spent the night). When I got their , her DH had decided that he, too, would skip the parks today (they both ended up spending the entire day at the MK!)
Okay, so it was just Dh, Ds, and I . This morning we decided not to drive, but to take the bus. Waited about five minutes. When the bus to Animal Kingdom arrived, we were the only ones to get on. Stopped at the Grand Floridian to get a few more chilled to the bone souls and off we went.
Okay, so it wasn't so much the cold, but THAT WIND!!!!! It was really awful. People were running into the bathrooms at the entrance to the park to get warm-now that's desperate!
Anyway, the lines for AK were already out past the ticket booths. So, we got in one. Then I noticed a lone turnstile with no one in front of it. I am so glad that I research this stuff. Well, about 1 million pairs of suspicious eyes watched us march boldly up to that turnstile and stand in front of it. About five minutes pass and another family comes to stand behind us. At opening, yes we were first through. We were herded over to rope drop, except that we go right in this park. While the rest of the herd was headed for the Safari, we walked onto Dinoasur with no wait, Primeval Whirl twice with no wait, Triceratops spin twice with no wait, and It's Tough to Be a Bug with... you guessed it... no wait. On the way to It's Tough To be a Bug, we headed down the character trail and got pcitures with all the Pooh characters dressed for the holidays with- no wait. Who said that Thanksgiving weekend was not a good time to go?We decided to skip Kali- I could not feel my extremitites at this point and opted for the Flights of Wonder show. We sat down as a family behind us begged us to sit right in front of them to block the wind. This bird show was hysterical. Lots of dry humor- like a crane named "Frazier". Give a hand for Frazier Crane! We walked the Maharja jungle trek after this and decided to get an early lunch (key word:early). Meandered over to Tusker House -no line at all, plenty of tables. I wanted hot food, hot drink-now! Dh and I each had the half chicken dinner which was soooo good. Marcus just shared ours , since he loves chicken legs.
After lunch it was time to go see the meerkats, since this is the whole reason that Marcus comes to Disney World. Before calling it a day, we went over to Camp Minnie Mickey. Since the shows were going on, there were VERY short lines to meet the characters. Got our pics with Santa Goofy. Really cute.
Have to go to school now, so Day 4, part 2 will have to wait.
Part 2- surrey bikes, inlaws arrive, and Artist Point
