Bringing your own bedding?

Because i was about to! My son has OCD, and it is not something to laugh at or ridicule. I know he wishes more than anything that he did not have to 'worry' about the things he does. The people who have posted have not identified their worries as OCD, so perhaps it looks trivial and silly to others, but like this poster says, it's not something you can just turn off, and to not do the things you need to do, causes extreme anxiety....

It is not a control issue. It is a mental condition in many cases. A type of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and it is not their fault that they can't just "turn it off". Yes, some can seek help from a psychiatrist, some can be medicated, but no, it is not about control and it is not something they themselves have control over without help. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't very very real for them.

I have several friends with varying degrees of OCD. It does make me shake my head sometimes--it doesn't make logical sense. But they are good people who are simply falling victim to a combination of life experiences and the way their brain is wired that is different from mine, and I have to try to be respectful even when I don't "get it".[/QUOTE]

Do you really get this upset reading this thread??

Relax. Everybody has their own "thing". Sleeping on a mattress that God-only-knows-who has slept on is something that makes some people uneasy. So what?? If bringing their own linens makes them feel better, why would you care? What is ridiculous to you may not be so ridiculous to others. No need to get this bothered about it!

I'm not upset at all. Just pointing out the inconsistencies in their behavior.
How are mattresses different than the muck that surrounds us in public swimming pools? Or the air that we breathe? Why the focus on the Mattress?

I also don't consider this OCD. I suffered with OCD for 15 years, and so did my son. This is germophobia, and an attempt to control one's environment.

Because it's the mattress that bothers them - for whatever reason. Yes, there are other things that are filthy, germy, disgusting, etc., but if someone feels better by bringing a sheet, it's all good. I can understand being skeeved out by sleeping on someone else's mattress....have you ever seen (or smelled) some of the people in WDW on a hot day? :scared1: :lmao:

For people who want to bring their own sheets, I also advise don't sit on any chair or sofa that might be in your room. You can rest assured someone's bare bum has been there before you!

The sheets are clean and white at the WDW resorts and if for some reason they are not, call and get them changed asap. If you do not trust the bedspread and blankets, call when you first get there and have them changed. Simply take them all off the bed and put them in a corner and say they were dirty and need to be replaced. Ask for extra pillow cases and double up over the pillow for extra safety. And if complete paranoia sets in, ask for extra sheets to cover all chairs! (Yikes, bare bum's?) lol.
There is no reason to take your own bedding to WDW, unless you are camping at Fort Wilderness.

It seems like alot of high maintenance behavior to me. I wouldn't frustrate my family spending time like that, but to each his own.

You know, I really cannot recall more biting and judgemental posts on a subject for a long time. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? I am bringing my own sheets. Case closed. I've heard enough horror stories ( see my orginal post ) to warrant that. It has nothing to do with being OCD or controlling. I don't don a hazmat suit when I walk into the room and I don't set off Lysol bombs when we get there. I don't bring my own utensils or carry an econo-size bottle of sanitizer with me at all times. No need to be mean or self-righteous about it.

I stay in hotels frequently becuase I am a corporate trainer. I spent about 100 nights in hotels last year, never took any precautions and was not sick once.

I could not agree more. I can't recall seeing this many judgemental, rude posts in a long time. I can't imagine getting so upset over people bringing sheets to a hotel. Almost like some take it personally....:confused3
