Bringing your own bedding?

I've stayed at both moderate and value resorts. This may upset some, but I didn't notice a drastic difference in their beds. I didn't even find the rooms to be that much larger at the moderate resort.

The moderate was nicer, but more for the amenities.

If bringing sheets makes you feel more comfortable on your vacation, then by all means DO IT. :) Vacations are for relaxing and enjoying yourself and eliminating the worries about linens are an easy fix. I wish I could bring my own linens as well but I think I'll run out of room in my luggage. My biggest linen need is a soft snuggly blanket and I doubt I'll be getting that in standard hotel bedding. :(

As for bed bugs, how are you all are checking for them? And what would you do if you found any? Would a waterproof pad/sheet protect from them?

We pack a can of Lysol. Spray the heck out of the room. I now found in our store, a travel size of Lysol. We are driving to Disney so packing a can is not a problem.

I think of a pool as a large washing machine. The germs might be killed, but the yuck (of all kinds) is still there. The sheets, comforter and towels/washcloths can't bother you much if you enter a pool without a thought.

We are staying at a Value....do they have a blanket on the bed that is under the comforter but over top of the sheets? I too don't like using the comforter but need a blanket (can't sleep with just a sheet.) If so, do the blankets get washed regularly like the sheets?

Yes they have a blanket between the sheets and comforter.
Not sure how often they wash the blankets but since the sheet is between me and blanket I try not to worry about it.

I really do enjoy triple sheeting however.
The Swan and Dolphin hotels have triple sheeting and Heavenly Beds!:cloud9:
None of Disney's deluxe resorts triple sheet their beds and they often charge 2 times as much as the Swan and Dolphin resorts. :confused3

There is a blanket between the comforter and top sheet @Pop...don't know how often it gets washed though.... :confused3

I just don't understand these "bring your-own-linens" and "spray everything with Lysol" fetishes!! What are you so afraid of???
Germs are everywhere!!! Do you go around in a bubble for goodness sakes!
Do you not turn a doorknob or pull a door handle?
Do you bring your own utensils, forks, spoons and drinking glasses to dinner?
Do you wear a diving suit in the pools???
Do you dip your toothbrush in germ killer before you stick it in your mouth?
Do you shake someone's hand? Where has that hand been and what wasn't washed when?
And the fumes from the Lysol spray will kill you faster than the germs its killing!!

This thread is about people who try to control!!!!
I was married to someone like this once.
She wouldn't go bowling because she refused to wear rented bowling shoes.

I just want to say thank you! Going through here and reading these has giving me a good laugh. :rotfl2:

It is not a control issue. It is a mental condition in many cases. A type of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and it is not their fault that they can't just "turn it off". Yes, some can seek help from a psychiatrist, some can be medicated, but no, it is not about control and it is not something they themselves have control over without help. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't very very real for them.

I have several friends with varying degrees of OCD. It does make me shake my head sometimes--it doesn't make logical sense. But they are good people who are simply falling victim to a combination of life experiences and the way their brain is wired that is different from mine, and I have to try to be respectful even when I don't "get it".

My DH and I would like to bring our own pillows some day. Every time we stay at the resort My DH uses four and I have to use three pillows just to get comfortable. Some of there pillows don't have a lot of cotton in them.:cloud9:

Do you really get this upset reading this thread??

Relax. Everybody has their own "thing". Sleeping on a mattress that God-only-knows-who has slept on is something that makes some people uneasy. So what?? If bringing their own linens makes them feel better, why would you care? What is ridiculous to you may not be so ridiculous to others. No need to get this bothered about it!

I've got to say that I've been stunned at how many of our Members say they keep sheets in their Lockers. I'm just ticked off that I never thought of it. I've been a DVC member at Old Key West since 1992 and have hated those sheets.

If you will sleep better with your own sheets, go for it. If they're more comfortable or cleaner or they make you feel more at home, it doesn't matter.

For those people who don't understand the sheet thing, let me tell you my story. When DH and I were dating, I lived in Trinidad for three weeks. Let me tell you that some of the stuff I saw in the third world I will never forget, such as no toilet paper in the bathrooms, unclean restaurant tables, dirt and filth in residences. So, because of that, I always travel prepared, even to the finest Disney resorts. I bring my own pillow, chuck the hotel comforter, bring my own blankets, check for bed bugs (always), wipe down everything with Clorox wipes, carry Purrell wipes, personal hygiene wipes and anti-bacterial foam. You can never be too prepared. Trust me on this. Yes, the parks are dirty and it creeps me out. That's why there's Purrell. :)

I can top this. I work for a credit card co, with customers who have issues with their purchases. I've posted this before, so I will do the short version. Friends went to Las Vegas. Friends got ready for bed, woman #1 jumped into bed, putting her foot in something. Apparently a disgruntled worker had "dumped" something in the bed. I've heard other horror stories, and honestly I do try to sanitize the best I can in a hotel room. 30 minutes of cleaning make the remaining 8 days very enjoyable. Plus, how can you be certain they changed the sheets?

Needless to say, I ALWAYS take my own linens. I buy super cheap when they're on sale ( clearance at Kmart) and leave them there.

Has nothing to do with control. Has to do with people doing God knows what ( see my post above) in a bed and not knowing if the sheets have been changed.

the day i have to start packing my own bedding is the day we stop travelling and stay home.....

I routinely bring our own fitted bottom sheet as the flat sheets they use for the bottom NEVER stay on. I bring a distinct color and leave a note that mousekeeping should not change it. I do this regardless of where we stay...value, moderate, deluxe or DVC. I've never had a problem. When I bring the sheet home (in it's own zip lock bag), I bleach it. If one wants to take all their own linens I would suggest shipping it ahead of time so you're carrying less if you fly. (We always ship our luggage ahead of time anyhow.)

would mouskeeping bring me extra blankets if i ask for them?
Yes. No problem. I routinely ask for extras.

Do the deluxe resorts use the same sheets as the mod&values?
No. The deluxes use a much nicer quality, and like most upscale hotels, include brochures for you to purchase any of their "line" from the mattresses, to the sheets, etc. We have no problem with the deluxe linens. Very comfortable.

One other difference between the Deluxes vs. Mods/Values that I have not seen on here, is that Mods/Values still seem to use a combo of down/foam pillows & comforter blankets (even GF used to use a down comforter), but now the Deluxes have switched to all hypo-allergenic (no down), which is nice b/c that was always a special request for my DW due to her allergies.

Hm. I'm not one to bring my own linens, but if you think about it... and you may not want to... if the sheets are gross, imagine all the "stuff" down in the mattress... and even if that sheet is "new", do you really think a thin 200 thread count sheet is going to keep that away from you? :rotfl2:

2 choices here... Live with it or bring a sleeping bag and roll it out on top (seriously, we used to do this in our camper with our own mattresses - so why not in a hotel? ;)) Although choice #2 tempts me, for me, I really think I'll survive the "grodys" & after a wonderful, long, tiring day in Disney, I really doubt that anything but sleep will be on my mind.
